Nice to see that not every mythical creature in Tonari no Yokai-san is a Japanese one. Pretty sure Japan isn’t considered the natural habitat of the kind of fairy that was in the driving school. Though I suppose I could be wrong, not exactly a yokai expert.

Ophelia, no! Don’t offer your apprentice steroids! Bad alchemist! Bad!
Although I will tentatively approve of sharing whatever longevity drugs you’re taking with your waifu.

Honestly kinda love how Sarasa’s master Ophelia is low-key absolutely insane in both her skill/power level and her casual attitude towards it, which together has completely wrecked Sarasa’ expectation of normalcy. She’s been trained by a level 99 adventurer and thus has trouble understanding that most alchemists can’t hold buffs for a couple of hours (it’s usually just a couple of minutes) because she’s comparing herself to a woman who can buff herself to run a distance that takes most travelers a month in three days.

Got some of the initial hero recruitment in Eiyuden done now. There are a few interesting ones. Francesca is an absolute delight, of course. And I think the out of place biker gang member is interesting. Not because of what he is, necessarily, but how they're adapting it. The setting doesn't have motorcycles (as far as I know), so what's the main transport method? Horses. Biker gang members are supposed to be tough bad boys. What kind of horse rider would be a tough bad boy? A "desperado". I mean yeah, kinda stupid, don't know if I have a reason to ever use him when Lian is right there, but I appreciate the effort involved in coming up with the adaptation.
But of course the greatest party member is Mellore making her return from Rising as a party member this time. I will always be happy to have magical girls in settings other than modern Japan. The more out of place, the better. I don't care what kind of stupid hoops I have to go through, she ain't leaving the team. I'mma blast Dux in the face with so much Love and Justice.

It’s interesting that alchemists are expected to know practically every kind of crafting: woodworking, stone masonry, sewing, blacksmithing, cooking, etc. And especially glassblowing. Now most of that stuff can theoretically be outsourced to others who are better specialized craftsmen. The only thing that actually requires an alchemist during the creation of artifacts is the portions dealing with magical ingredients and enchantments. But it’s best (and likely cheaper, unless you have other things to be doing and the increased production rate would help profits I suppose) to be able to do it yourself when possible. And it’s absolutely crucial to be able to make your own bottles for potions, as the glass for the bottles themselves have to be specially formulated for each kind of potion. And as there’s no standard design bottle reuse is almost impossible, except in the “melt it down” sense. Sarasa offering bottle buy-back for reuse is only possible because she is the only game in town and can at least standardize her own bottle designs.
I just love the little nitty gritty stuff like that in settings.

So Alternate-Nobunaga learned magic from the Portugese, who apparently also taught him about the Norse Pantheon, and so he actually managed to conquer Japan under the banner of Odin.
...
I HAVE SO MANY QUESTIONS ABOUT THE HISTORY OF THIS SETTING!!!

I kinda love how one of the realizations Sarasa has once she tries using her new cauldron is “I need to put on some muscle”. Because yes, she can use magic to buff herself, but if she’s gonna be hauling a iron pot bigger than she is that’s full of stuff over to the sink on occasion to empty it, it’s still tiring and difficult to do that and it’d help if she had something on those noodle arms for the magic to work with.
You know, that’s something I haven’t seen on any of the various Atelier girls yet. Where’s the muscle alchemists at? …Besides the Armstrong family, I mean. They’ve been outliers for generations.

So, officially speaking in this setting the age of majority is 15. That’s when you are considered to have become an adult. It’s also when you can legally drink. Incidentally, Sarasa had her first drink at the graduation party her master was throwing her. Which was a big gulp of something that presumably was pretty hard, given her master’s panicked expression as she did so and passing out after that.

Of all the possible techniques for Cologne to try to teach Ranma, I never would have predicted How to Grope a Girl’s Butt.
For those who have not read the manga, yes, this actually happens.
No, I will not give context nor explanations.

Well, played enough of Eiyuden Chronicle to get past the first dungeon. Overall not bad thus far, though the load times on the Switch at least are definitely noticeable. Also, while I'm not saying Perrielle is wrong about anything thus far... dang girl, you're supposed to be a politician, learn some diplomacy already.

Not to much surprise given what I saw in the anime, but there’s definitely a focus on finance in the opening. Interesting to note this far is that the price for potions and artifacts is actually controlled by the government. Granted it’s high enough compared to the materials involved that being an alchemist is still quite profitable. Still, this makes me feel a little better about how much Sarasa will charge for saving an arm later, as it might be that she legally can’t charge less than that.
Also interesting is that the texts she’s paying a ludicrous sum for are themselves artifacts, with the magic being that “you must be this skilled in alchemy to read, or else it looks like a blank page”. Which in turn means that you need a higher alchemist to accompany you to verify the later books are the real thing, because there are blank fakes out there, and if you want the full set that means getting one of the best alchemists. And their time ain’t cheap.
Really, if it wasn’t for all the scholarships and cash prizes handed out to the top test scorers this could have been a story about crippling student debt in a fantasy world. ...Probably is for most alchemist graduates who aren't Protag-chan.

I mean, sometimes yeah, but it's hard for me not to read a simple line of "Good" in CDI Zelda's voice. ...Playing Arzette recently probably doesn't help.

Well I’ve still got one week until I can take a break from the unending stream of BS that is my job, and I’m going to need something to read besides Ranma. I mean I like the series, but I need a bit of variety and it ain’t one I’m reading to comment on anyway (I just do it because sometimes you just wanna talk/joke about something). Let’s see…
Well now, this is interesting. I liked the anime adaptation of Management of a Novice Alchemist, and it looks like the first volume of the book series got an official translation last month. So there we go, I’mma read Management of a Novice Alchemist by Miziho Itsuki.

I mean, I can’t really argue with that. You could maybe argue that Happosai shouldn’t be there as he’s neither student nor staff, but he’s often at the school anyway (to steal ladies’ undies). And I’m not really sure what Nibiki would even bring to the team. I mean I’ve speculated that she has some psychic/exorcism abilities and she is the daughter of a martial arts master, but she’s not exactly a combatant and none of her unexplained oddities seem like they’d help out in a fight against Ms. Hinako.
Though really I can’t blame her for joining the principal’s goon squad. A million yen is a million yen. Let’s see, written around late 80s to mid 90s, so let’s guess… 94? so that would be about… $9,786.65, which by today’s standards would be… $20,625.40. Yeah, I’d probably join a goon squad for one day for that much. Not like this is any less legal than any other fight in the series anyway. Heck, given it’s the principal forming this posse to bring in an out of control delinquent it’s arguably legitimate authority.

Do you have any idea what it does to morale to be reprimanded for following the posted rules, and doing what was acknowledged to be “exactly what I ask of you”? Because some overgrown brat of a He-Karen threw a temper tantrum over being asked for his ID like everybody else who was buying alcohol?
I hate people… SO MUCH… Flames… on the side of my face…
