It's funny that in old fandom days, the fangirls would mostly self insert themselves as either Jade for Dave or Nepeta/Terezi for Karkat. But now, it's bad to portray yourself as either girl because Jade is a bitch (for the fact she was mind controlled by The Condesce) and Nepeta is creepy for shipping her friends IRL (despite that other characters like Karkat and Eridan would also gossip about quadrants of the same friend group). If they wanted to make Karkat uke, they might as well admit that instead of acting like BL/yaoi is fetishizing homosexuals, when it isn't. And nobody even calls out James Roach or HICU for misgendering Hussie. So is the fandom fine with it now? Nobody in this nu-gen can make up their goddamn minds.

My real pet peeve with regards to Jake isn't that he never got to do anything cool, but specifically that everything cool associated with him was retconned away.

"Oh, who's this mysterious pen-pal who helped Jade build an invincible guardian rabbit-bot? Nevermind, he was just the delivery boy; it was REALLY made by totally-not-the-author's-self-insert! Surviving alone on an island of bloodthirsty alien monsters is pretty badass, right? Actually, he just cowered in his room all day while the not-self-insert's robot double protected him! He gained limitless power that eclipses even the multiple omnipotent bad guys? We'll just rewind that away and pit him against the joke villains! It's vitally important to canon that he specifically gives the main villain a beating of cosmic proportions? Actually, that was a doomed timeline version of him; here, have a scene where he shits his pants on live TV instead!"

The last semi-cool thing to Jake's name is Grandpa programming Sburb on pre-Scratch Earth; and I bet if we actually got Hauntswitch, it would reveal Jude/Dammek/Mom was solely responsible for that and Grandpa just took the credit.

Yeah, they really stripped him so damn hard despite being built up as like a genius. It's something similar to Jane's case. Nanna shown to be a smart, if mischievous woman at times with a good heart, kid self is complete opposite. If it's suppose to give the message that expectations of the guardians are subverted that the Alpha Kids are actually fuckups, then fine. Stupid subversion excuse that Hussie likes to use to think he's the first one to do something different. But it's another thing to try and say "All those things you learned, it was a LIE!!! I just read one of your posts about trauma and davekat. Since you said that the best human match for Karkat is John,,, maybe the best troll match for Dave is Gamzee?

Hear me out, Gamzee's dad is not really a brother, but it is a guardian who was harmfully neglectful to him and since a very early age too, but that kind of behavior seems at least normal in some way? The only troll closest to this kind of bad parent situation is Vriska and that one is not someone who talks about feelings, and outside of his Lord's true nature revelation, Gamzee was a pretty chill dude (I don't think that he went crazy after not eating the slime, suggesting that he was crazy since the begining, tbh I always felt like it was Cal's influence in him)

It would be interesting that the guy who started Gamzee's murderstuck rampage, would also be the one to end it too. Dave even admits that Gamzee was his fave troll. Gamzee would be able to confront the bastard that destroyed his belief, but Dave would also be the one to set it right and possible pull Gamzee out from Caliborn/LE's influence. If Karkat couldn't keep being moirails for Gamzee, then someone like Dave could.

Something that seems to attract the Davekat shipping is how the two can help each other from their trauma, at least that's what it seems to look like. But tbh I'm not seeing how their experiences help each other get better. If anything Karkat would do better healing from his trauma with a different human, since Dave is so closed off from his trauma. But no they're just awkward and closed off emotionally any time they are together. Anything else they're just arguing like friends.

Considering that Karkat was a leader of his troll session to parallel John, I would think John would also be the one to help Karkat the most. They were the closest of human and troll interaction out of everyone else. And yet, Post Retcon and fandom make it seem like they are total strangers to one another. But yeah, I'm not seeing how their experiences can help each other out. Karkat is upset that most of his friends had died and felt like a horrible leader. How would Dave help in that regard? Dave doesn't have any closer connection to the other trolls that had died besides maybe Tavros and Equius. Would he even sympathize that good trolls like Nepeta and Feferi didn't deserve it? Dave himself isn't a leader either, it's John. And Dave barely did much to lead besides maybe his dead Dave selves, but now he is seldom on doing that again. How would Karkat even help Dave for things like the issues with Bro? Even if his friends would technically be siblings in the troll incestuous slurry, Karkat doesn't exactly have a brother brother blood ectobiology connection like Dave, Bro, and Dirk. And all of the trolls are the same age as him. The only difference is in status of the hemospectrum and power from highbloods, but it doesn't really equate to how Bro was the guardian and raising Dave in preparation for Sburb. Trolls may not be the right person to talk about how a person is raised if their planet conditioned everyone that child soldiers is a good thing. Karkat may be a mutantblood, but this dude had a dream too in being part of the system despite his blood. But fanon and Pesterquest, make it out like he is in constant danger that he could never reach that dream.

Because Davekat is so popular I tried to like it but i just cant see the appeal of it. its either the two of them fighting like they are in a slap stick routine or the two of them being soft boys. it's so not them it's annoying. if there was a way the fans could make them interesting maybe i'd turn around and think it's at least okay but nope lol :) it's never been good

Can you say your ideal fandom? Mine is one where people actively make instrumental fan music and fan art as covers and not just once a year for the fans and music album. I'd also love to see shipping contests instead of polls. One where there's a contest to see who can make the most interesting comic of their ship. I'd like less callout posts and no new trolls added to the story, instead people make up their own alien races.

Fan animations, be it drawn or made in 3D like SFM or MMD, are also ones I miss that I want to see pop up every now and then. Experimenting with new alien species is a cool idea. Respect between the Eastern and Western fandom is also a major plus.

among some things, the art style is very hit or miss, they made the entire purple caste black, had an entire route dedicated to poly relationship drama with the jades, karako and amisia are trans (why only the kids...). it reminded me so much of validate and y12000.

maybe its for the best if hiveswap is cancelled.

God Friendsim 2 is also just as bad. They even have the same polarizing sprite art for each character just like they did with Godfeels Podfeels fandub. At least their excuse is that they are indie. But still it just hurts to look at.... And yeah, have Hiveswap cancelled and announced that it was a Kickstarter scam. 2 million dollars wasted. The only people who actually got something out of it, were the two people that paid 10k to have their fantrolls appear in the webcomic and the guy who won the Hiveswap comic contest to have his fantroll to appear in Act 2.

folykl and kuprum are the only hiveswap trolls i can say that i somewhat enjoyed, and even then they are way too simple and a rehash of mituna. tyzias is fine ig

chahut, soleil twins, polypa and chixie also have good designs and some interestings bits

the rest i dont give a shit about, awful characterization and i hate how they made all castes share traits with the main trolls when they were said to be outcasts in their planet. also no violetbloods and retconning limebloods being wiped out is lame as fuck.

Violetbloods do exist only in the concept for Act 3. They have yet to make an official appearance. But hearing the news that WhatPumpkin needs to do the assets and programming for Act 3, which will take a LONG ASS TIME, I doubt we will see much of them sooner. But yeah, some of them are not that unique. We literally have Vriska 2.5 Ardata, lesbian Vriska Elwurd, and male Vriska Mallek.

Personally I wish the person who introduced me into homestuck didn't immediately go "DaveKat is good dni people who dont ship it ugh i hate people who hate DaveKat!" because at the time of reading it I couldn't open my mind to other ships with dave or karkat. As a person who was "raised" by my friend to like DaveKat, when i read Homestuck I still couldnt think of how they even had a hint of being romantic, I just accepted it cause it made them not flip the table and get mad. Deep down I didn't like it that much and convinced myself I did. If shippers didn't make DaveKat so "Cool boi with trauma and angy smol boi❤" I would like it more.

It would have been more interesting too if narrative had them doing a bit something more by Post Retcon that could give them a better reason why they would be closer now, but they didn't. The Vriskagram shit doesn't count if it's mostly about Vriska solving everything and everyone else are useless pieces of shit.
