unfortunately, alder has died quite a bit in his time in hope county.

of course, now with this NEW WAR he’s been thrown into and given how OLD he is and how many times he’s died in the past, the immortal does his best to tread through without causing MORE trouble for himself. he doesn’t want to take the accidental slip and never wake up again.

his first death takes place IMMEDIATELY after the helicopter crashes. alder DIES in the crash. he took a hit that SNAPPED HIS NECK. the only person who really KNOWS of alder’s immortality of all the deputies is staci and they all hear the crack. he wakes up just in time to get stopped by joseph. up until he finds earl and joey and the marshal, they all believed the rookie to be DEAD. he treads dutch’s island with ease and no deaths happen here. he also doesn’t die when he and the marshal go flying off the bridge.

thankfully, in the henbane, alder doesn’t die ONCE. he gets through this section of hope county without ease but with zero deaths. earl is so dang happy that alder is alive and cries happy tears when he sees the deputy come CHARGING through to save the prison.

in holland valley, alder dies ONCE. and that one death is what made him HAVE to put john down. the man figures out what alder is. he KNOWS and alder has to stop him before the news spreads. john GUTS alder. he slices him open and fills him full of flowers as revenge for faith. he believes he saved the family from their deaths when he’s finished. only to hear that alder is still running amok in holland valley. that he’s QUITE NOT WHAT HE SEEMED.

it’s the same lil bit in the whitetails, yet he’s mostly SHOT FULL OF HOLES and keeps charging forward in the trials. staci is worried of course, knowing that one day alder won’t wake up after being ‘killed’. but alder makes it through with only two deaths. one in the trials when he’s shot and gets back up. and the other time was leaping off the side of a cliff into a helicopter to stop the pilot from killing the hostages when he was saving them. he caused an explosion during the crash and walked away with only tattered clothes.

and don’t even get me started on new dawn.

I Live and I Die and I LIVE AGAIN - Old Guard Verse

the first time alder clark dies, it’s far back into the past. he remembers the stories and myths of the roman empire; he sees the kingdom rise and fall and he fell with it. it was his first ever war he took place in but he didn’t stay dead. he awoke under a pile of bodies and CRAWLED out from them to breathe deep and startle those who intended to BURN the remains. they fled and he did too. he had a different name then. he no longer remembered it.

it’s many many years later when he dies again, this time in france. he was EXECUTED for smuggling aristocrats from their deaths. he was HUNG from the gates by his throat as a warning to all those who dared attempt to stop their revolution. this time, he woke up being STRANGLED and he nearly died again falling from such a height. thankfully, his wounds healed quickly and he was able to run. it’s around this time when he’s met by another of his kind, one much older than he. she tells him of what he is and what he must do and he understands. 

they separate and that is the last time he sees her.

it’s the late 1800′s and he finally loses track of how many times he’s died. it’s war after war and the west is filled with outlaws and loose crime. the man is a ranger, but not the one everyone speaks of. he’s been shot, set ablaze and more, but he wakes up every time with aches over his body and always, ALWAYS his horse waiting nearby. he becomes a bit of a legend himself and he eventually must that legend DIE.

another war, but this time alder finds love. his first. she’s beautiful. the most beautiful person he’s ever seen. her eyes sparkle and shine, her smile lights up a whole room. her name is hannah and he vows to MARRY HER. she is not the same as he and alder knows one day he’ll have to let her go. but he knows it won’t be anytime soon. 

HOW WRONG HE WAS.

it’s an intruder. he breaks in and SHOOTS ALL OF THEM. even his 3 year old son. alder came to with both of them dead and he himself is soaked in their blood. after they’re buried he leaves to drown in his own grief.

hope county was supposed to be a nice change of pace. no one knew him here and there seemed to be little chance of dying. he knew, eventually, that he wouldn’t wake up so a nice, easy paced life he wanted.

and once again, he’s WRONG.
