Cendrillon burned itself into my mind forever and I love it to this day. You think it’s possible for you to ever republish it? we obviously don't have the entire picture painted, but I can totally see him leading an investigation that was assigned to him, and you, a new detective, are unfortunate enough to be involved in solving the case alongside him.

“Hey, what's this? They assigned me a partner for the case? Well, hello there~! I'm Shikanoin Heizou and welcome to the team, little calf!”

Not bad for a first impression, but he seemed a little too excited about the notion of having a teammate.

You soon find out why.

On the second day of the investigation, your partner is nowhere to be found. “Where is he? I thought we agreed to meet up early in the morning.” He wouldn't dip on you on the second day, would he? You woke up earlier than usual for this.

A passing officer noticed you standing outside the office. “Are you with the investigation team? The one with that Heizou fellow?”

“Oh, yes I am! Have you seen him around?”

A foreboding feeling washes over you when the officer gives you a pitiful smile. “Yeah, about that...”

“He went to Watatsumi Island for a morning walk?!”

You’re both covered by the blankets, but he’s aware that the two of you are still completely naked under it. He feels a sigh on his lips, knowing that he has to get up, but, for a moment longer he stays by your side and inches the tiniest bit closer.

Xiao notices when the jade palace fell, aether has no fear of heights, but is terrified of falling. Most of the days when he journeys around cliffs he sticks with ameno and practices making updrafts. (Pick whoever here) only sees the marks on his back when aether falls asleep in the bath. His wings are injured and bound even after his 500 year nap.

You sit in the silence of your shared room. Glancing at the clock on the wall, it is now past the birthday celebrations. Past your usual bed time, even. 

And yet, not a wink of sleep has found you.

There’s only anxiousness and uncertainty that makes your chest tighten. It drops to your stomach, and it dissipates the slightest bit, making you think that you’ve gotten control of your emotions back, but it shoots up your stomach and wraps around your heart again. The cycle of being anxious and uncertain continues.

Scaramouche disappeared as soon as the two of you got back to the castle. He strode past the big castle doors in a hurry, and when he remembered that you were there with him he swerved around and only said one thing. “Go to sleep,” It was rather dismissive, and for a moment you wondered if going to sleep was really the only thing you could do.

This is all based on pure headcanon, so no one come at me for the inaccuracies.

We know that at the start of the game, the twins are seen with their powers. Wings are a huge sign of power/significance amongst their homeland, at least, when they had one. Aether and Lumine are the sole survivors of their world, and because of this fact, it affects their powers since they're now a threatened species.

At the beginning when they meet the Unknown god, it's Lumine who first summons her weapon, and then she's the one who throws Aether his own sword.

Essentially, Lumine has more status than Aether in regards of their powers, if that makes sense. She was the link/keeper of the two, And now, with both Lumine gone and his own powers sealed away, Aether's body is nothing but a walking husk devoid of most of his powers.

Aether (Full Power) - 100%

Lumine (Compromised) - 50%

Wings (Compromised) - 40%

That leaves him with only 10% of his powers left.

The only ability he's able to use is that of purification, which we see in the first archon quest with Dvalin's tears.

But with an incomplete body, there's only a certain amount of power he's allowed to use before a backlash occurs. Dvalin's tears didn't require that much energy to begin with, so naturally it didn't affect Aether like it did with Xiao.

Healing Xiao's injuries was the original plan, and normally that only takes 4% of his power, but with the nature of his ability, it cleared off a small chunk of Xiao's karma, and that exceeded the limit of his power bank. Too much output can damage his body and would likely kill him for overusing it, so as a way to protect himself, his body puts him in a state of 'pause', or coma in simpler terms, to restore that 10%, hence why he goes to sleep in order to recover. During this state, it could take up to three weeks or maybe even months to recover.

Think of it like this:

10% → 0% → -15% | (state of coma.)

So Aether heals 5% for those three weeks he was supposed to take, but he woke up before the final week. Normally, his system would automatically put him under again because it knows that the process was not complete, however, Aether had interfered with the formula and this sent a signal to his brain that, “Hey man, we're still not ready yet. Begin locating the source of the breach.”

So his body was destroying itself from the inside.

Aether would have died the moment he woke up, but with his own healing + the healers that were pumping energy into him, he had successfully avoided that fatal outcome by a slight margin. His organs are damaged, so it's gonna take a couple of more weeks before he's back on his feet.

TLDR; Without Lumine and his wings, Aether is an incomplete being and he could very well die by his own hands if he's not careful.
