ppl dont think sebastians and ciels interactions in canon are sexual/romantic bcs ppl have forgotten the concept of eroticism and sexual tension without the author being obvious about it. instead ppl label 10 closeups of sebastian taking ciels socks off as them having a "father-son" moment

days later and no idea if the other ask went through cause tumblr, but if it did, i forgot to mention that the problem with all that is less tall poppy syndrome and more conditioning by the story.
Elaborate?

🗣️ Twitter Proship discourse sucks ass. Recently some kid just got called out by an adult anti who kept calling them a pedo.
Oh yeah I actually got one of those Twitter notifications for a tweet I'd be interested in about that
I thought maybe I had just curated my space on here better which is why I wasn't seeing it but the amount of new antis popping up in the stridercest tag there vs here plus all the other bullshit really is something else
I wonder if it's because you can still have porn there? So it might be easier for people to get rage boners over stuff they don't like? Also the worse (virtually non-existent) tagging system

Hello, I really love your perspective on SPN.How much of the incestuous undertones do you think were intentional (obviously the writers are aware of some of it with the erotically codependent line)? And also how much do you think the general viewerbase (not fandom) picked up on back when the show was coming out?
I think the vast majority of the incestuous undertones were intentional and that spn is the 7 Minutes of Incest Show, if not from day one, then certainly at least from season one. Kripke and Gamble both called it "the epic love story of Sam and Dean" and Jensen has called it a love story about two brothers. The number one major theme of the show over its whole run is the way love, abuse, and horror in families run together and interact, and an act of vertical, nonconsensual incest (Mary and Azazel's kiss) is the first domino through which the entire rest of the plot occurs. Kripke was asked by Standards and Practices if he'd be willing to remove it and he declined. That suffocating feeling of someone loving you enough to do anything for you, but also anything to you, and how that's an unacknowledged aspect of familial love--all of that is all over the text and has to be intentional. It's too blatant, omnipresent, and barely even given plausible deniability, to not be.
That said, I also think there was no intent at all that Sam and Dean be interpreted as actually banging each other or even interested in banging each other. The risque jokes are just risque jokes. They practically write themselves even had both the writers' room and the set not apparently been inhabited mostly by people with the sense of humor of twelve year old boys (which I'm not complaining about--I too have the sense of humor of a twelve year old boy and find most of the jokes hilarious). The weird interest in each others' sex lives is just the same over-investment they have about every other aspect of each other's lives. And the more serious romantic/sexual overtones imo are there to reinforce the platonic/emotional love story, not tell a separate one.
R.e. how much did the general audience (GA) notice it, I have no idea tbh. My guess is probably not much, because the GA is there to be entertained, not think too hard about every little detail like we do in fandom. Spn is a very vibes-based show and one can easily absorb the vibes for entertainment purposes without thinking too hard about what they mean.
And to be blunt, people in general have a metric fuckton of practice not noticing irl incest while pretending to be vigilant about and horrified by it, so why would they notice it in a fictional setting where the love between the (emotionally) incestuous family members is ultimately redemptive and always saves the day? That's a pretty hard disjuncture to face squarely imo. Not looking away is a learned skill that most of us have no specific reason that we know of to learn, and it's in many ways an awful experience learning it, so why would most of us bother? I've never specifically asked a GA member about the incest piece in particular, but my spouse, who is a GA member, didn't notice that spn is particularly rapey and didn't notice that Lucifer had canonically raped Sam, even though Spouse has a long and sometimes complicated marital history with a rape survivor.
Anyway, thanks so much for the ask! I'm always very interested to hear the opinions of others, so Nonny, you and anyone else who feels like it are welcome to add on in reblog.

Goddd a fucking account on Twitter dedicated to making lists of "proship" accounts to encourage people to mass report them and celebrating when they get taken down
I reported all the posts for inviting harassment but idk if that will do anything
This is why I hate when people act like we can just mind our business -- we have fucking 13 year olds literally seeking us out to get our accounts deleted

Honestly the funny part about the poll is that LE is ranged severely less than Caliborn, ult!Dirk, and assumingly Scratch. For as much as people complained or say that people complained) about not seeing LE defeated, not a lot of people care about him huh.
Maybe it's because he never got a resolution in comic that people care less about him in the poll?
le shrug

the whole guilt-tripping language in posts about important topics paired with how I'm still getting bitches in my notes talking about why it's actually good to tell "bad" people to kill themselves continues to prove to me that a lot of people have absolutely no concept of social justice or activism outside of assuming the worst of and then viciously attacking strangers on the internet

Since we've been on the same topic for quite some time, here's a new one:
I've only recently noticed this, but it seems that whenever there's a trans character in fics, they're either pre-op or it's just never mentioned and left up to reader interpretation (both in SFW and NSFW content)
I'm sure it's not always the case, but it seems to be the norm - for transmasc characters anyway, I'm not sure about transfems since I don't read nearly as many fics where that's discussed, but I imagine it's the same there.
I'm just wondering why that is. Maybe it's simply to avoid getting things wrong if the author themself doesn't know absolutely everything about how it all works, or cause a lot of trans headcanons are a bit of a self-insert and they simply write the character as being in a similar stage in their transition as them, I don't know.
It is a bit of a pet peeve, though. I get that a lot of the time, dysphoria and other trans struggles are an important part of the story, but you can depict that with a post-op character too, maybe just in slightly less obvious ways, and there's a lot of other things you could explore with that, too
From characters finally feeling at home in their body, to disappointment about lingering insecurities or dysphoria even after doing going through all that effort and doing everything they were 'supposed to', not to mention how well you could use that to add interest to sex scenes (for example it's their first time since getting surgery and now they get to explore a whole new world of sensations with their love interest, etc etc)
--
I assume it's for self-inserty or personal experience reasons, yeah.

but what is canon really, jax? i'm not even going to put a /s here, you probably already read that in the most bored and sarcastic voice imaginable.
but yeah, part of my reflection on roxy was noticing how much roxy has gained/won, and how little (if any) she's lost at the end of hs. and thats super weird when you consider everyone else's standing by the end.
I'd be interested in you expanding on that more?

there was implications both in and out of the story that they are connected, and in both 2/bc. it would also be the easiest twist in the world, so i am already expecting it. also not helping with the whole not real/npcs thing is that one of the bonus stories is focused on this subject (and is the worst version so far, as even fans of it have pointed out). so you know, its free game there.
and to think, we haven't even touched upon my reasons for lalondecapitation yet. /s
I know Epilogues Events appear in PQ I just think it's dumb as shit and I'm annoyed that they're keeping it up in hs2 but I guess I shouldn't be surprised. PQ is too fucking inconsistent to be considered anything close to canon even by bc standards! There was little to no oversight in the art and routes beyond some overarching stuff they wanted to include! ugh ugh ugh ugh I think this is more upsetting than the Vriska arc retcon tbh
lmao then get to it!

you used the m word, jax. thirty minutes in the pit.
also you don't need to tell me twice, considering how much the intermission/exile fandom loathing the main fandom has been a meme even in the comic's hayday. i also disagree with that notion/reading of hs, in part because of my own reading that a character not being real is your fault. you being the royal you here, not you as in yourself. another part of this also has to do with the fact that the epilogues mock the idea of seeing people as less real/npcs with the candy half, so you know how it is.
and sure, applying post canon info to the main story is wrong, given time differences/change in staff/etc. but you know, if the future wants to keep being introspective of the past, then i'm going to start round 2 with full meter.
I just don't think even beyond canon readings should take PQ into account. It feels so much like its own separate world
And just because the epilogues mock the idea of people not seeming real doesn't mean that it isn't a way to analyze how the comic treats some characters at times, even if I think it also mocks that idea as it's doing it
