Evaluation
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I mostly used paper to create all the drawings and I used watercolour pens & paint to create the colours ranging from bright to dull and grey. One of the process I learnt in this project was how to do pop up art, I knew I wanted to create pop up, but I had to learn. I spent a few hours watching multiple different YouTube videos in learning how to do pop up as well as the history of it. Once I had learnt the basics, I knew I wanted to include Pete Scullys style into my own work, making sure I used different blends of colour and pen and experimenting with the way colours work together. It was an incredibly fun process.
My main issues when creating my work these past 2 weeks was simply that my ambitious final outcomes, I had no idea how to actually do them it was quite a challenge as well as getting the proportions down and  making flat paper look 3D it was rather hard. Though after a few videos on how to make pop up art I mastered the basics. It was really pleasing to see the final outcomes just as I had envisioned them it made it so much more worth the difficulty. If I had more time & more skill on the art of pop up I would have made the pop ups so much more detailed, however, what I did mange to achieve I am really impressed with it took a long time to get right.
I came up with the idea of pop up, after watching the film Paddington 2, the whole film was based around a book with hidden messages at each location, while I didn’t include that I really loved how the artist made all the tower. So with that in mind I took the drawings I had already done and traced them onto the template that I had made. Taking inspiration from my own drawings I coloured them all accordingly making them all bright and colourful. Then on the second outcome I did the opposite making them dark and dull to represent night time not of the same landscape but of a more brutalist one with more industrial like buildings.

This is a video of my flipping through 2 of my pop up designs. I love the way they just fold down and back up again

Pop up art second outcome.

This one was based in a night time skyline as you can see from the pictures where the light has lit up the buildings.
This one is much more dull and has more muted tones and less detailed than the other one it looks the best in the dark with the light as that's how I envisioned it to be. You can also see the progress pictures and how I managed to make this piece.

Pop up art first outcome

This one is my favourite one, I love all the colours and tones and the way it stands up when Its opened. It was rather difficult to create but once I figured it out it looked pretty good. I'm really proud of myself for making this it took quite a lot of time to do especially the drawing of the buildings and towers.
I wanted to give it a slightly run down nature taken over vibe adding in lots of pops of greens and browns making it look dystopian yet utopian.

paddington 2
this film initally inspired my idea to do pop up for my final outcome once i saw the pop up book in it i knew i had to do something to include it. while im no master at pop up it was certainly fun to try learn to do.
here are some of the images from the book,

The use of towers made me want to create mini abstract landscapes that pop up

Matthew Reinhart
Matthew Reinhart, he creates children's pop up books and creates unique 3D outcomes that can become 2D.
his work & many similar pop up artists inspired me to take the approach of creating a 3D outcome out of paper into pop up.
here are some examples of his work ,

Minimalist Abstract towers
I wanted a more simple approach something i wouldn't normally do or create 2 of the drawings are simple shapes and loosely based of the structures i photographed another is a super quick fineliner drawing using basic shapes and pen thickness to create a quick loose style.
the last image i used parts of an old book one of my neighbours gave me a while ago it was falling apart so i thought i would make use of it and make a collage based of the abstract shapes to form towers. It actually turned out really well and is one of my favourite pieces that i have done for this project

towers

these are the quick drawings i did, some are rough others are more detailed with mostly the theme of grey to keep these similar consistent in the drawing series.
i really enjoyed the quickness of them and how fast i created them trying not to worry about any mistakes i made, it was a quick and fun exercise which helped my final outcomes

Digital towers
I wanted to create something abstract and out of my comfort zone so i created these digital towers. i used the images of the towers and played around with contrast and hues and made them into cool buildings and to add height i added ladders and clouds.
I drew on the vines and bushes creating an abandoned vibe which is what i was going for throughout all of these drawings nature slowly taking over man made structures.
I used Pics art to create these edits i really like how they came out.

Tower drawings
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Inspired by watercolor artists and minimalist artists i wanted to create these towers in the way i thought would be most enjoyable and to get the most done.
while they weren't all quick drawings they were mostly detailed and took a while to get them done and i am mostly pleased with all there outcomes my favourites being the most colourful ones.

Here are some towers I created from things around my room I made them all black & white. Took inspiration from buildings and just tall structures no real aim for these to look like just made sure they were getting smaller towards the top.
Keeping an abstract approach and keeping then mostly minimal, I really like the poetential these structures give off.
