The many potential storylines from "Wish"
I think I am not the only person who absolutely loved the (early) concept but hated the execution of Disney's Wish.
There are so many dynamics that are or could b explored between Magnifico and Asha in Fanfic. Here are a couple idea's I have seen (combined) so far:
early concept - evil!Amaya x evil!Magnifico VS Starsha. Its already a classic and basically becoming canon among Wish-fans.
Post-Wish - Magnifico gets freed from his Mirror by Asha because she needs his help. Its mostly written by fans who want him redeemed, but I havent seen anyone writing Asha fall for Magnifico the forbidden magic?!
Neither villain or Hero AU - Asha is well-meaning but misguided in her overly idealistic worldview whereas Magnifico is experienced yet too stuck in his ways. it takes a more mature approach to the dilemna surrounding the Wishes, where a middle ground is sought between the youthful idealist and the weary realist.
Twist and classic villain AU - where Magnifico takes after the great disney villains of old, and Amaya takes after twist villains of the most recent era, like King Candy.
twist villainess AU! - Amaya turns out to be the true villain and she is just as powerful as Malificent. Meanwhile Magnifico joins the good guys to defeat her.
Megamind AU - with Asha's villain song from Lydia Bard, I am dying for someone to write an AU where Magnifico's harsh treatment of Asha and his paranoia make Asha turn into an even worse vilain than himself. Magnifico snaps out of his power-rush when he realizes what he (and Asha) are about to become. Now, Magnifico has to redeem himself by saving Asha from the corrupting magic and seeks out the Star

Disney theory: Wish (2023) as a potential prequel to Snowwhite and the seven Dwarfs (1937).
We dont see Amaya and Magnifico reconcile by the end of the movie, but I doubt Amaya would instantly drop Magnifico. What if, these two slowly reconcile post-movie, with Amaya even asking Asha to create a bigger space for Magnifico to live in. The two fall in love all over again.
But the expected happy ending is cut short when Asha refuses to free a genuinely redeemed Magnifico. Amaya begs on her knees, but neither Asha or Star is willing to grant a second chance. Amaya becomes so furious at Asha she starts to use forbidden magic to free her husband. Attempt after attempt fails. Amaya becomes more obsessed/paranoid to maintain eternal youth to remain forever at Magnificos side (since, you know, he lives in suspended animation inside a mirror). She succeeds at acchieving immortality, on the condition that she remains "fairest in all the land".
However, Amaya needs to provide an heir to continue her bloodline and expand her lands. She marries with a king to gain an heir. But on their wedding night, Amayas new husband drops dead from a heart attack thanks to a VERY jealous Magnifico.
Amaya simply remarries, much to Magnificos protests. Cue a montage of several Kings, dying in all sorts of over-the-top ways à la "Final Destination".
These evil dorks continue to play this game to rile each other up and keep their relationship exciting. A century later, Amaya has created an empire across all medieval Europe yet each day, she would ask her beloved Magnifico who the fairest in the land was.
All is well and good, till Amaya's most recent stepdaughter grows to be more beautiful than her....

Wish rewrite with Amaya as the villain (spoilers)
While I love Chris Pine as the narcasistic King Magnifico, I feel like they wasted a opportunity to have Amaya as a villain.
Instead of a confident narcissist, Magnifico is a timid yet sweet wizard who stays in his lab, waers ragged servant clothes behind closed doors, and doesnt come out that often, except to grant wishes. Think of him as a male version of Elsa and Snowwhite.
the pressure to grant everyones high expectations and his own introvert nature causes him to often screw up the wishes he has to grant at the ceremony. Note that the wishes that he grants are all materialistic yet harmless, like, "I want a puppy!" or "I want a house!"
Amaya, who serves as Mother Gothel/Evil Queen to Magnificos Rapunzel/Snowwhite, married him solidly because of his sorcery and has been secretly breaking his self-esteem over the years. She installed the dogma in Magnificos head that only SHE can judge wishes accordingly and that people cant be trusted with them because they are all selfish (which is true, to a extent). Not only that, but she also keeps Magnificos OWN wish - to be a great wizard - to herself as a means to control him.
Then, enter Asha, who sees this emotional abuse by accident and boldly speaks her mind to Magnifico about this, planting the first seed in Magnificos head that Amaya is using him, much like the town is using him for.materialistic wishes. Magnifico doesnt believe Asha because of denial - the wishing ceremony is the only time his subjects actually pay attention to him and his sorcery is his only means of value to the community - and so, he banishes her from the castle.
The movie could then still follow the same broad lines with Asha meeting Star and convincing the townspeople to rise up.
Unlike the materialistic wishes that Magnifico can grant with his staff, Star's magic can actually do wondrous things - like, grant an infinite number of wishes, make people magically fall in love with you, bring people back from the dead, etc. Once Amaya gets Star, she plans to dump Magnifico for the better option. As her methodes become more and more extreme to quell the revolutionists and find Star, Magnifico keeps the fragil peace between the revolutionists (who want all the wishes returned to them) and patriots (who are on Amaya's side and believe wishes should be governed). his popularity skyrockets, as people start to respect and see him as more than just a genie in a bottle. in turn, Magnifico becomes more confident.
Amaya becomes furious that the balance in their relationship has shifted. Fearing Magnifico becomes too comfident and will free himself from the abuse, she locks Magnifico up in the highest tower, steals his staff and absorbs the bad/selfish/harmful wishes that Magnifico keeps contained in a seperate vault.
The final battle/climax would then play out almost the same as in the movie: Asha and Star lure the "Queen" in a wild chase scene while her friends free Magnifico.
Magnifico is at his lowest point as Amaya forces all of Rosas, including himself, to its knees with the bad wishes. He is powerless without his staff and equipment to stand up to her. Asha reminds him that "he is a Star!", not because of his magic but because of his good heart.
Magnifico is freed from Amayas magical grip thanks to the belief of Asha and his people. He fuses with Star (think of Rapunzel in the Tangled series, when her eyes and hair glow) to fight Amaya in a sorcerous duel that pays tribute to Merlins duel with Madame Mim. He wins, imprisons her in the Mirror, stores the bad wishes back into the vault and revives the good wishes.
rin the ending, Star grants Magnifico his wish to be a great wizard, giving him the ability to grant powerful wishes like Star. Magnifico then rules as the King of Rosas with Asha as his right hand.

Okay so since everyone goes mad for Victorian-era dramas and His Dark Materials got the animal familiars down pat, can we finally have an adaptation of A Night in the Lonesome October, pretty please?
An animated Creatures of Light and Darkness that’s willing to go balls to the wall with the concept would be good, too

Jekyll: it’s me again. I need someone to be my friend, someone who won’t run away. Maybe send me an angel, the nicest angel you have.
Hyde:

So I want to talk wbout how truely terrfying Jekyll can be
And by comparison how... non threatening Hyde is.
Specfically I wanna use the scene from the Bandits Cavern, chapter 5, to highlight my point.
Both Jekyll and Hyde have build up and explosive moments in the private scene. Lets start with Hyde. He starts with tempting Jekyll before:
Tumblr media
The scene is almost comical because of the facial expressions, and because well... we expect this from Hyde. We expect Hyde to throw a tempurtantrum, its not shocking or frighting at all because well, it's typical.
Now compare Jekyll's
Tumblr media
Its honestly much more dramatic because even Hyde's terrified by his outburst.
Again compare Hyde insulting and going on about Jekyll's worst fears
Tumblr media
To Hyde as Jekyll going on about Frankenstein's fears
Tumblr media
Its what makes greeneyed!Jekyll so scary, not only because of plot implications, but also because... it's Jekyll saying and doing these things. It's also what makes Jekyll and Hyde such a compelling story overall, Hyde is Jekyll meaning that Jekyll is fully capable of any of the stuff Hyde does. And thats whats so surprising. You don't expect someone as
Charming
Tumblr media
Respectable and kind as Doctor Henry Jekyll to be capable of such anger and to be able to cause such terror.
Which means when he shows it, its that much more shocking. That brings me to the lastest page and how beautifully showing it is.
Tumblr media
Lanyons never seen Jekyll like this, no one has. Which is why he's so shocked. However Jekyll feels guilty because he knows hes capable of lashing out like this on his own, and the only thing stopping him is his reputation and the layers of emotional repression hes covered himself in.
Even other characters note this, Frankenstein is obvious, but even Jasper and Sargent Brokenshire have stated that Jekyll is down right terrifying when he wants to be.
Tumblr media
And the dichotomy between him and Hyde is what makes Jekyll so scary. You expect someone like Hyde to be a little shit and to lash out, you don't expect it of Jeykll but Hyde is proof he can be like that when he wants to.
