OH MY FREAKING GOD Y'ALL NEED TO GO WATCH THIS INTERVIEW LIKE RIGHT FREAKING NOW ‼️‼️‼️

i almost cried hearing everyone's answers to the interviewer's amazing questions. one can see that everyone has worked so hard to bring their characters to life, especially george & jayden! :-D

i'm just gonna make a list of my favorite parts of this interview:

kassius talks about how crystal's relationship with David the Demon is an allegory for domestic violence & how victims often have residual shame & guilt even after the relationship has ended.

beth schwarts (one of the showrunners) talked about how the Edwardian era influenced edwin's character arc especially in terms of his sexuality.

yuyu talked about how niko's only superpowers are her kindness & earnestness + how she wanted to bring a japanese protagonist to life without giving any heed to stereotypes.

jayden said that edwin & charles are the ying to each other's yang!!!!! he also said that even though we talk about them as separate characters, they come together to form one entity that is the Dead Boy Detectives.

george mentioned how edwin truly appreciates the fact that charles fully accepts, embraces & loves edwin for exactly who he is. :'D

george ALSO pointed out how this show attaches notions of love & comfort alongside heavy themes of death, abuse & pain. (i cried listening to him talk about this tbh)

hey so i want to read up on dead boy detectives once i've finished the show, but i'm not sure where to start. do you know of a reading order i could follow?

In chronological order:

• sandman issue 25

• free country: tale of the children’s crusade (vertigo crossover event)

• vertigo: winters edge issue 3

• the sandman presents: dead boy detectives 2001

• death at deaths door

• the dead boy detectives 2005

• dead boy detectives 2014

• books of magic 2018 issues 21,22,23

• the sandman universe: dead boy detectives 2022

and if you’re a fan of the show, the original pilot episode is the doom patrol episode “dead patrol” season 3 episode 3, it’s a very fun episode and you don’t need the context of the rest of the show to watch it

This actually happened, Hob didn’t adopt them (you guys really underestimate how much of an arse he is) and he got almost killed because of them. It’s in Sandman presents: dead boy detectives if you want my source.

I need Edwin and Charles from Dead Boy Detectives to meet Hob Gadling. And because Hob has died so many times, he will be able to see them. He would also totally adopt them. Like yup, these are my dead boys now.
