Summary:

Fresh. That’s the word that he keeps coming back to. Growing up in the city, he’s never had access to this kind of environment– fresh air and quiet, trees everywhere, dense wood all around. It’s lovely, but David really hasn’t had the chance to explore it.

Something tugs in his chest, and whispers in the back of his mind: You have time now. Why not?

Seventeen minutes later, dressed in jeans and converse, wearing a blue and black flannel, with nothing but a backpack full of four plastic water bottles and a whole box of granola bars, David crosses the treeline in his own backyard and walks into the woods. - David Jacobs doesn't know who he is. He wants to find out.

Jack Kelly knows exactly who he is. Maybe he doesn't want to.

After a lifetime of feeling stagnant, Jack and David search for the answers.

It's here! The first chapter of my @newsiesminibang24 fic! I wanted the second chapter to be done for today but I was Very Busy with Passover and seeing Massachusetts friends! Featuring newsies characters as members of a college juggling club!

I've never participated in a bang of any size before, so this has been very cool! However, the length got away from me a bit, and this is probably going to probably be the longest thing I've written without a built-in plot structure once I'm done.

Anyway, the artist I was paired with is @echofive7567, and they did a very cool juggling show poster that will make more sense as the fic progresses. It's been wicked awesome working with them!

Hey! I’m starting my first season of marching band and band camp really soon. Do you have any tips or any timing bc I’m shit scared 😭😭

OMG CONGRATS!! YOURE GOING TO BE INCREDIBLE

Here are a few things I've learned over the past 3 years and some things I tell my new marchers every year:

Bring PLENTY of water. To every rehearsal. Even when it starts to get cooler if the area you live in does that later in the season. Don't be like me my freshman year and survive only off of mountain dew.

Once you get your show music listen to it on repeat, ghost along or play along with the recording, etc. It'll make memorization so much easier.

Practice marking time/marching while you practice music. Even if it's just like little baby steps in your bedroom. And practice with a metronome.

Make sure you take care of yourself! Marching season can be a really stressful time for everyone. Make sure you get enough sleep, eat well, and stay hydrated.

Don't be scared of your drum majors/section leaders/band directors/band councils/upperclassmen. We are here to help! Some of the best friends I've made in marching band have been people I was terrified of when i was a freshman because they were older than me. Some of them might look scary but I promise they'd love to help you!

have fun!! Marching band is literally one of my favorite things ever. You get to become a part of an amazing group of people all working together towards a common goal. Your band will become your family and you'll have so much fun together!!

Good luck on your first season! I know it seems scary right now but you'll be incredible. And I promise participating in a marching band is something you won't regret and will build you a family for the rest of your high school career.
