relatedly, I am having fun rambling around the english countryside !! however!!! it also scares me!!! everything is SO GREEN (or bright yellow) and it is just. hills and valleys. that cut off way closer than they feel like they should. where are the mountains in the distance... I am sitting on a tree stump on my little slope and the world feels like a little dish around me that cuts off just out of view. where's the rest of it

Blackreach - What's your favorite enemy in the game? What's your least favorite? Why?

full disclosure it's been a minute since I've actually played skyrim and more recently bg3 has been spoiling me with my new-discovered love of turn-based combat - but if I ponder really hard, I think probably dwemer automatons in general terms - centurions and the like particularly. they're tough to down sometimes but I really enjoy the aesthetics of it all. and they're not subject to the extremely broad strokes that make up my least favourite - which is all of the guys in this game that love to attack you for No Reason (falmer, forsworn, mammoths, giants, bandits, hostile animals, etc etc etc). I find it flat and boring and saddening. centurions and the like ALSO attack you for no reason but they're war-machines that have evidently been set to Alert for Intruders for a while now. there's some kind of thread of logic there

#the thing is that skyrim is not a video game to me anymore it is a writing sandbox #so when it doesn't measure up to the version of itself in my head I get sad. and the game's handling of hostile creatures and people is #one of my primary quibbles #ask #skyrim saturday tuesday

this has been keeping me up at night. the graybeards are old men. there are (excluding paarthurnax) only four of them. their ancient order is dying out. they probably took in ulfric in order to impart to him their monastic tradition and pass their philosophy down to the next generation of nords. and instead of remaining at high hrothgar in the life of contemplation that he'd chosen for himself ulfric spent over a decade learning all he could from the graybeards of the thu'um and then went back down the mountain and started blowing people up with his voice. and arngeir has nothing to say about it

rorikstead!! I've written a fair number of pieces set in it by now so I've become quite endeared to it. though oddly enough every character I write as being from there Does Not Like It. I don't know what this perfectly nice farming hamlet did to deserve this slander. sorry rorikstead

Riften - What's your favorite guild? How do you feel about their questline?

man that's actually really hard... I have specific characters for almost every guild questline in the game so clearly I'm not picky. however the college far surpasses everything else in terms the amount of Things going on (mopey boss, all-knowing lightbulb in the basement, students keep going missing, archivist will kill you dead if you don't wash your hands before touching the pages) and the sheer inexplicability of the questline is unmatched. dark brotherhood gets an honourable mention because astrid is there and I love her
