i like to think that up until the byers moved to california, joyce cut mike's hair when she cut will's and jonathan's. when the byers moved away, mike let his hair grow out bc he got inspo from eddie but also because the person who cut his hair since he was 5 moved away and it felt wrong to have someone else do it. that's why in s5 his short hair is back. bc joyce is back :)
