i’ve been thinking of a scenario where in late s3 jon is in elias’ office discussing plans for stopping the unknowing and when jon asks a question elias pulls the ol’ “try to know” trick and jon whines and is like “i have no idea what that means, tell me what the hell i’m supposed to be doing” and elias very calmly condescends “it’s like exercising a muscle, jon, i can’t do it for you” 

and then after some vague platitudes about breathing deeply and focusing with intent jon… does know. he knows where to find the answer to his question, knows exactly the right statement. knows exactly where it’s filed away. and then he knows the answer intuitively, without even reading it. and then he knows more. he knows quite a lot, actually. he knows… actually quite a bit more than elias would have expected at this stage. 

and suddenly the exercise has gotten away from him. jon’s pupils are blown wide. his expression is manic, “elias… i can see it. i know what to do i know how to stop it, i-” he rises from his chair and elias shrinks back into his.

“i can see,” jon says, breathlessly, “i can see the things that i point my mind to, i- i- i can see rosie, just outside the door. i can see- tim! tim is at his desk for the first time in… god, in weeks. a- a- and martin, i can see martin, he’s- he’s filing through our historic foreign language statements and-”

jon stops suddenly and turns towards elias, who can feel his gaze on him like a lead weight dropped squarely in the center of his chest. a moment of deafening silence stretches between them. then quietly, haltingly, jon rasps, “i can see… you.”

If you work in a movie theater and you do this I have no respect for you.

My younger brother is Type 1 Diabetic.

When we go to a movie theater, we always get him diet soda. If he were to get regular when we asked for diet, we would not give him the insulin he would need for it. If that happens, his blood sugar level could go so high he could go into a coma, go blind, or even die.

If somebody gave him regular soda instead of diet without telling us, that person could be responsible for a nine-year-old being killed or blinded.

Just thinking about that makes me so angry. I get scared every time we take him to a movie in case the people working there saw this picture and decide to do the same thing.

I just relistened to one of my faves cruelty free and I had forgotten how Jon went absolutely full Elias mode there when he met the statement giver's brother. He was just "what your darkest secret hah now I have it on tape now will you cooperate or not-" and I can almost see before my own yes Elias giggling in his office like a proud dad-mentor

As a Finn myself it is really challenging to change languages and the pronunciation for one single word, a name for that matter. My tongue gets all tangled and the whole sentence will sound completely wrong just because I tried to say my name the right way so ir's not absolutely mispronounced

inspired by a post on my dash but i think one of the issues w the “pronounce peoples names right! there is no excuse not to!“ convos is that if you actually pronounce my deadname (or the names of any of my brothers, or any of my family for that matter) right you have to completely snap out of english for the word. like english just doesn’t have the same cadence or like consonant and especially not vowel sounds as finnish and you literally do have to say it “wrong” or you will disrupt the flow of the rest of the sentence. that’s why we also have an english pronunciation for words that are from different languages (eg. sauna); they get molded to fit the actual language it’s used in. and i’m sure there’s other people who feel the same way, and others feel differently, and in any case just mimic the way the person introducing themself says it. anyway
