Nyx Ulric Week
— 〉 exploring Galahdan culture & heritage
Title; Mementos Day 1; Galahdan Way Rating; PG Series; Shattered Glass (A Final Fantasy XV Fic) Characters Involved; Nyx Ulric, Storm Cien (OC) Summary; Taking place before the beginning of Kingsglaive, Storm is curious of Nyx’s life before moving to Insomnia. So, in the van ride to the barren lands beyond the wall, he decides to ask.
[ April 8th, M.E. 756. 06:23:27]
“So, what was it like?”
Tired and barely comprehending the King’s English, Nyx groggily lifted his head to look at his fellow cadet. The rest of the team seemed to be asleep as the van drove away from the city, like sensible people. Then again, Storm Cien was always quite the odd one.
“What was what like?” Nyx barely managed to say past his yawn.
“Galahd,” replied Storm as he rubbed his eyes in attempt to keep himself alert. “I grew up in Zoldara Henge, so I have little knowledge of any of the areas around Insomnia.”
For some reason, the mention of Galahd caught Nyx by surprise. It would sometimes slip his mind that not all Glaives were from Galahd, only the ones he would rather be around usually. He sat up, sky blue hues blinking away the drowsiness only to then look back at Storm. “Why do you want to know? The place was just a group of islands about north from the city.”
Storm stretched his legs out since they felt like they were starting to stiffen up the longer he sat, then spoke, “My grandfather was an ambassador for King Regis. He used to tell me of his travels when he returned home. The last place he went to was Galahd, but my sister and I never got the chance to hear his travels.”
“Because of the attack on the Manor,” Nyx recalled.
“Precisely,” Storm nodded.
Nyx looked out the window in thought, it had been some time since he thought about home. Not in the sense of the war, but in the sense of how he lived and how he grew up. “It was hot,” was his first recollection. “Etro, the summers were blistering up there. Thankfully, my family and Libertus’ family lived in Rhabael, which was a fishing town by the Galahd River, so we’d always end up spending time in the water when the summers tried to roast us.” The memory made the man grin. Man, those were good times.
“I guess I wouldn’t know, Zoldara Henge was always so temperate weather wise. Perhaps it would be because we lived closer to Nifilheim.” Storm shrugged tiredly, he then let out a momentary yawn before speaking once more. “And what of your tattoos?”
“You’re awfully chatty this fine morning, Cien. Sister’s rubbing off on you?”
“Possibly, but I would assume she knows all of this, given how close you are with her.
Ooh, he got you there Nyx. Instead of admitting he was right in that sense, Nyx decided to answer his question about the ink. He first addressed the ones on his face, starting with the one under his left eye. “This one symbolizes my strength in eyesight. My father and I discovered just how far I could see in a dense jungle, and how well I could shoot an arrow.” Look at the confidence on his face. “A lot of the guys and girls in Rhabael have tattoos based on their strengths, to put them on display, in a sense.”
“And the one on your cheek?”
“A symbol of the rite of passage. It’s the first hunt of every person’s life, usually done at the age of twelve or thirteen. The kid goes out for the day with the hunter of the family, and would return with their first kill, which usually ends up being the night’s dinner. But anyways, the mother picks out the design, and the father decides the location of the rite tattoo.”
Storm nodded. It always fascinated him how other cultures were. He himself was raised in a proper environment next to the Fleurets, since his mother was Lady Sylvia’s personal secretary.
“it probably sounds barbaric compared to what you grew up with, huh?”
“Not at all. Culture is culture, no need to compare how one is raised if we end up in the same situation.”

Chapter 3; Nathan Drake & Victor Sullivan
Series: Path of Pyrite Fandom: Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune Word Count: 2141 Words
Kathryne wasn't quick enough to draw an arrow from her quiver the moment she had heard the gun cocking, but Tyler was quick enough to aim his crossbow and the gun holder. It was an elder man who was starting to grey and had a cigar in his mouth. "Easy there, old man, that's my little sister you're aiming at," Tyler spoke sternly.
"I'd lower the crossbow if I were you, son," the elder man suggested, even though he showed so sign of losing the gun.
"After you drop the gun. 'Cause if you do anything else, chances are one of these arrows are going through your eye socket."
"Tyler," Kathryne intervened with a sigh before addressing the stranger. "Look, grandpa, We're not here to start anything. I just wanna take a peek in the U-Boat."
"Yeah, uh-huh," he didn't sound convinced in the slightest. "Why should I trust you?"
"I'm an archaeology student at Harvard University researching the legend and the location of the Golden Man," well, she wasn't lying. She was an archaeology student, just not yet. "I know for a fact you guys are looking for it, and I have no interest in taking it and selling it."
"How'd you know there's more than just me?"
Kathryne arched a brow. "Really? You wouldn't be out here waiting. Guess you can't do the whole climbing thing." That last part was more to herself than directly at the man. She then turned to Tyler, reaching out to make him lower his crossbow. "Wait out here, I'll check it out."
"But, Kath," Tyler started, but whatever she was about to say was shut down by the look she gave him. With a drawn out sigh, he nodded. "Fine," he looked back to the man. "Whoever's in there, tell them she's going in so they don't shoot her."
Sullivan gave him a look for a moment, but complied none the less. Once his walkie talkie was out, he held down the button to speak. "Heads up, Nate, someone's coming in. Don't shoot her."
"The hell, Sully?" there was a response immediately. "Who's coming in? More importantly, who are you letting come in?"
"An archaeologist. Just, don't shoot, her brother already threatened me for almost doing so."
Kathryne snickered, and Tyler just rolled his eyes. "Well, you guys can make up while I'm in there. Keep us posted, and try not to kill each other." With a salute, she turned and dove into the water. It was days like this where she was glad she learned how to swim. Unlike Rya. Swimming up to the U-Boat was easy, and once she had reached the structure, Kathryne took a deep breath and dove under. There was an opening in the rusted hull that was big enough for her to swim through. When she reemerged from the water, she surfaced onto the floor of the sub. There was a path that she followed up onto the upper level and into a broken up corridor. Each of the hatch doors had been opened and at the end of the hall, she could see a man standing in the captain's quarters. She made her way up, but she then stopped at a corpse by the last hatch door. Well, there's what smelled terrible. But it wasn't the corpse that caused her to stop. It was the gold coins that were scattered by him. Kathryne squatted down to pick one up. Spanish gold, definitely. But two things came up in her head; why did a German have a Spanish gold coin from centuries ago, and where is this coin from? It was stamped with a symbol she had never seen before.
"I see you met my pal, Sticky Fingers, here." She heard a voice say.
Looking up as she stood, there was a man at the entrance of the captain's quarters. he had a similar appearance to Tyler; tall, a little built from what she could see, brown hair. The only difference was this man had blue eyes. She held up the coin. "Who has Spanish gold with a mint that I haven't seen before and a face that was torn to shreds. Yes, we got friendly with each other."
The man shook his head. Sarcasm, he liked it. Mainly because that meant someone could take his shit. "So, you're the archaeologist, huh? Aren't you a little too young to be out here?"
"Just 'cause I'm short doesn't make me that young."
"Did you get through your proseminar, yet?"
Kathryne made a face, and the man shook his head with a small chuckle. Well, this is awkward. "Okay, so what? I'm going in the fall."
"Aw, look, we have a baby on our hands. Still, it's impressive you made it this far," he held out his hand to her. "Nathan Drake. The old geezer outside is Victor Sullivan."
Since she was used to the baby jokes, Kathryne didn't even call him out on it. She took his hand and shook it. "Kathryne Catreel. I would ask if you had any relations to Francis Drake, but he had no kids."
"Touché, my friend. If that were true, I wouldn't be here towering over you. Besides, how would I have known where this baby was?" He held up a little red notebook, and Kathryne's green eyes widened.
"Holy shit, is that—?"
"Drake's lost diary? You bet your ass it is."
"So that's why you're out here, to finish what he started."
"Yeah, well, that. And, y'know, gold and glory. The good stuff."
Emerald eyes rolled. "Guess I should have expected that," pushing loose strands of hair out of her face, Kathryne looked to the charted map behind them. "So, where to now?"
Nathan held up his hand in front of her to stop her. "Woah, woah, woah, wait a second, doll face. We? You're not in on this."
"Oh, you think I'm going to give up now. You're funny. I already told your pal that I'm not interested in taking and selling the thing, just finding it."
"Y'know, I find that very hard to believe."
"You and the old guy outside have had so many things done wrong to you that make you both so untrusting, haven't you? Need me to swear on a Bible? A Catreel never breaks their word."
He narrowed his eyes at her, as if making a judgment on if he should tell her what he knew. One thing was true, and that was that so many things, so many people, turned on him and Sully that finding someone they could actually trust was a hard time. But, if he could admit, Nathan was impressed how far she had came with little to no information and a world full of false claims, since the only truth of El Dorado was in his hands, and off the coast of Panama for the last four centuries. And maybe, just maybe, a soon-to-be archaeologist (and anthropologist, since that's part of it at Harvard) is what they needed.
Nathan placed the diary in his palm laying down, then held it out to her. "We're short a Bible, this should do."
Kathryne arched a brow once more. Was this his way of actually letting her and Tyler tag along? He actually is giving her the benefit of the doubt? Wait, she stopped mid-thought, he was probably only doing it so he could benefit from her in some way. Not that she cared about that, as long as she still found El Dorado. So, she placed her right hand on top of the diary, and held her left hand up. "I, Kathryne Elizabeth May Catreel, solemnly swear that I—"
"I swear to God, if you quote Harry Potter,"
"—will keep my word when I say my only interest in this hunt is to find the Golden Man, and nothing more. Y'know, I thought about it, but then you probably wouldn't take me seriously. Despite Prisoner of Azkaban was a great book and movie," she then lowered both her hands. "So, monsieur, what have you got so far?"
"French, huh? Y'know, you probably should have taken Latin in high school. It'll help so much more here," none the less, Nathan reached down to pick up a piece of paper with a map on it, the very one he had pulled off of the corpse of the captain. "Off the coast of Perú, there's an island that these guys were trying to find, from the looks of it. The best assumption is that there is where we'll find El Dorado."
"And the worst assumption?"
"We waste our time there and the trail goes cold."
"Okay, lets just hope for the best."
"One more question," Nathan started.
"I possibly have an answer," Kathryne mused.
"I see you got a bow and arrow and all here, but you can hold your own, right? I don't need to baby you, because babysitting is not in the j-"
Kathryne didn't let him finish because she grabbed him by the wrist and flipped him completely over her shoulder to where he landed on the ground back first. She quickly placed her foot on his chest as she drew an arrow from her quiver and pulled it back to aim at his throat. "Dollface, I grew up with two military buffs who taught me how to aim with this baby, two Asians who taught me what they know about martial arts, a drug dealer who taught me how to shoot, and a Latina who taught me how to manipulate with words," with a grin, Kathryne slowly released the bow and placed the arrow back in her quiver. Once her boot was off his chest, she held his hand out to him. "well, and a mom who taught me how to fence. You don't have to worry about me."
It was one thing to get Nathan Drake off guard, but completely knocking him over was a completely different thing. He wouldn't lie, he liked a strong woman. (Nate, buddy, don't go there.) "well, then, I guess this will be an interesting hunt," he said with a chuckle, then stood up with her help.
"Hey, Nate," Sullivan's voice came through on the radio. "you still alive, or do I need to give you two a few more minutes to finish up?"
At that, Kathryne couldn't help but laugh, and Nathan just rolled his eyes before holding down the button to respond. "Haha, very funny, Sully. I happen to have a little more class than you do. Anyways, get this,"
"Yeah?" This time, both Sullivan and Tyler's voice could be heard.
Nathan held down the button, but let Kathryne do the talking, since she looked like she wanted to say it. Kathryne grinned. "We found out where the Spanish took El Dorado. The Germans were after it, too, and they just so happen to leave behind the map that'll lead us right to it."
"You're shitting me," Tyler sounded astonished.
"Kids, this better not be a wild goose chase, or—" it suddenly cut off.
"Or what?" Nathan asked as he held down the button, but there was no response. This caused him to furrow his brows. "Sully? You there?" He asked again, but no response.
Kathryne leaned his hand down to press it down. "Tyler, what happened?" she asked, and that, too, was a question left unanswered.
Suspicion lingered between the two as they exchanged a look. It didn't need to be said, Nathan just gestured Kathryne to follow him as he approached the hatch to the next corridor, pushing it open with a grunt. Following that was a loud metal clang and the sound of what was the mechanics of a machine starting up. "Oh, that can't be good."
"Drake what did y—" the question didn't even need to be completed for her to get an answer, she saw the torpedo just as she had gotten partway through her words. "Son of a..."
"We should probably get the hell out, like, now."
The two booked it, Nathan going first into the last opening and then Kathryne followed. Once past that corridor, they went down the ladder and into the lower level that Kathryne had originally came in through. While Nathan looked slightly panicked because it looked like there was no way out, Kathryne then took the lead here, diving into the water once more and swimming under, to which Nathan soon followed.
Exiting through the breach in the hull, they swam out and towards the shore where they beached themselves onto the rocks. But they weren't alone. Standing before them was a man with gray, almost white, hair, and a younger looking man standing to his left who was armed with a rifle.
"Hello," the man greeted Nathan as he extended his hand out to him.

Chapter 2; The Temple
Series: Path of Pyrite Fandom: Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune Word Count: 2474 Words
-
"Are you sure you're going the right way?"
"Your distrust in my navigational skills is offensive. I know where I'm going."
"Kath, last time you said that, we ended up in a cave where I swear there were coyotes hiding in."
"You wanna give it a go then? I'm sure your navigational skills are way better than mine."
"Hey, tone down the sarcasm, young lady."
"Oh, God, stop, you sound like dad." As Kathryne pushed a plant leaf out of her way, she let go of it just in time for it to smack Tyler in the face. "Have some more faith in me, would ya? We're almost there."
Tyler, after swatting the big leaf out of his face, came to Kathryne's side. "You said that for the last mile. You sure you're not lost?"
Her emerald eyes glanced up at her brother for a moment before she pointed to a path that crept between two cliffs. "It's right there, I swear. Just follow me." Kathryne was confidant that this was the way. It was that gut feeling she had, and her guts were never wrong. Well, most of the time. Maneuvering around large rocks and plants then ultimately the crevasse she pointed to before, the duo soon found themselves standing at the temple ruins.
While Kathryne had this smirk of pride on her face, Tyler was completely astonished. First off, he had regretted ever doubting his sister, that's for sure. Second off, he couldn't believe he was standing at the ruins of what was suppose to be the gate to the City of Gold.
"Go ahead, tell me how great I am. I'm waiting."
"You're freakin' amazing, Kath. Harvard University should be lucky to have you. How the hell did you even pinpoint a location?"
"Hours of scouring the internet and libraries. I had way more luck in the libraries, though. There were a few books dedicated to the the biggest expeditions of the 14th Century. It took some time, but I cross-referenced the Raleigh expedition in 1595 and the Drake expedition in 1587, as well as a few claims of Spanish conquistador Gonzalo Jiménez de Quesada on his travels in 1536."
"When did you do all this?"
"After we got back from Rome, once the whole fun in looking into the history of the Illuminati died down." As she spoke, Kathryne had walked around the perimeter to find the entrance to the temple. She had expected some kind of giant door or somewhere along those lines, but she just found a staircase descending down into the temple. "Over here."
Tyler scurried over to his sister, only to see her making her way down and in. "Well, isn't this welcoming," he said as he reached into his bag to grab two clip flashlights. Good thing he remembered them when she didn't. "Here, you might wanna use this."
She paused and looked back, taking the flashlight from him and clipping it to the strap of her tank top. "I'd be careful turning them on, God knows how long anyone's been here and bats could probably be slee—"
And there goes the light. But surprisingly, there were no bats. Odd, but nothing to worry over.
"Okay, prove me wrong, why don't cha?" Kathryne rolled her eyes, flicked on her flashlight, and took a good look around. There wasn't much out of the ordinary of expectance; wall carvings and murals that were cracked and being overgrown by nature, pillars that are slowly crumbling apart which is kind of worrisome.
"So, where's all the gold?" Tyler asked as his eyes darted everywhere. "Wouldn't you expect this place to be glimmering?"
Kathryne nodded. "I would, you're right," at a turn, her flashlight caught the dull reflection of what she assumed was metal. "Ah," she mused, then picked up the metal, which turned out to be a Spaniard armor helm. "the Spanish beat us to it."
"I thought you said one of those guys you mentioned before managed to find this place?"
She shook her head. "I said they went on expeditions to find this place, that's  it. It's rumored that Drake actually made it here, but there's no solid proof on that since his expedition log was lost."
Tyler finally looked ahead of them, there was a hallway winging around and a light at the end of that hall. "So, should we keep going forward."
"Of course, what kind of monster do you take me for?" Kathryne feigned this offended look, even added a dramatic flair by placing her hand over her chest to emphasize the offense. "There's still an entire temple to explore, even if all the gold's gone, we still found the temple of what would have been the gate. Hell, there might even be more on the other side. It's so worth the look around."
"Okay, okay, I get the message, shut up and go alre—wait," he cut himself off and held Kathryne back by the arm.
Of course, this confused the raven. "What?"
Tyler was still, sniffing the air. Was that the smell of gunpowder? Or was it just fire? His senses were shot to all hell after some time in the service. "Something exploded recently? Or something was on fire. Maybe someone is here. Stay behind me." Now, he took the lead. Kathryne followed right behind her brother as they made their way through the hall. This hall was cluttered with wooden beams and platforms, probably from when the Spanish were here. The light that they had seen was just the collapsed roof of the temple. Now, they were at a place where the floor had caved in as well, and the only thing bridging the gap together was a fallen statue.
"Someone was here," Kathryne stated. "that statue wasn't always like that. Look at where it landed, the dust blew out of the way."
"And it looks like it happened just minutes ago," Tyler pointed out. "You think it might be someone who could mean trouble?"
"I hope not. Either way, we're not stopping, so go. I'll be right behind you."
He nodded. The brunet made his way to this makeshift bridge and climbed up it, walking to the upper level with ease. Once he was on the other level, Kathryne then moved next, hoisting herself up onto the statue to walk across it. About halfway through, she could feel movement under her feet. Oh, shit. She booked it, sprinting across just as the statue lost leverage against the lower level and began to slip. Just as it fell, she jumped, and Tyler had caught her by the wrist.
"Jesus, Kath! Give me a heart attack, why don't cha?!"
"It's not my fault the thing slipped!"
With a grunt and a solid tug, Tyler lifted her out from dangling over the precipise of death and into his arms. "I swear to God, I'm going to carry you like this the rest of the way."
Kathryne squirmed with a pout. "No, I may be small, but don't." Forcing herself out of his grip, she landed on her feet with a sigh. "Okay, so, moving forward, now that the near death experience is now past."
The duo pushed ahead, only to be stopped by another obstacle; a door. Kathryne looked around, and to the left were two chains, one with a weight and one without. "There," she pointed at the chain. "would you do the honors?"
"What, can't do it yourself?" Tyler teased.
"Yes, because I can use all of my body strength to lift up a probably one ton weight. I'm only 4'11, there's not much body weight to use."
"Puny little sister, you're so tiny, it's adorable."
"Tyler Lee, I'm going to strangle you."
"Kathryne Elizabeth, you can't even reach my neck."
The girl made a strangling motion with her hands, but then let out a dreaded sigh of defeat when she accepted the fact that he was right. The face made Tyler laugh, but at least he went and actually pulled the weight up to lift the door. But neither of them were expecting this giant torch thing on the other side to be lit.
Kathryne ducked under first, when she was on the other side, she saw that a cart had been crushed by the door. It looked like someone used it to prop the door open for a little bit. Someone was definitely here.
"Is there anything you can wedge between this thing and the floor to hold it open?"
"Uh," she looked around for a moment before spotting another cart of stones just behind the giant torch. "Yeah, gimme a sec." Kathryne made her way behind the cart to push it towards the door. When it was right under it, Tyler slowly lowered it onto the cart, and the moment he leg go of the chain, he basically slid under the door. Good thing he did it quick, because the cart was weak under the weight.
"Okay, Indiana Jones," Kathryne laughed.
Tyler got up, dusted his pants, and merely grinned. "C'mon, it was cool." Now, their attention was on the giant torch thing. "So, what do you make of this?"
The raven shook her head. "I don't know, maybe it was some kind of guide. But that's a stretch of a guess." To her right was a new hallway, illuminated by the ceiling lamps. "But, it leads us somewhere. So, lets go."
Before Tyler could say anything, Kathryne was already trotting off ahead like a toddler who just mastered the art of walking. The hallway they went down was similar to the last one, just lit up more. Tyler was right behind Kathryne, figuring out that someone was here very recently didn't sit well with him. He had his crossbow out and in his hand, ready to shoot at any sign of threat.
They came to a stop at oddly open doors. There had been a pulley system type door here as well, only with two weights instead of one. But it was already opened. And fallen pillars lined horizontally paved a path that was fairly easy.
"Yeah, someone was definitely here. Be careful, okay, Kath—"
And there she went, skipping across the pillars with ease.
"Seriously?"
"What? I just wanna see what'son the other side."
Tyler rolled his eyes with an 'Oh, what am I gonna do?' type of sigh before leaping his way across the fallen pillars. Luckily none of them collapsed like the statue did. On the other side was a staircase leading up. Was this a way out? They made their way up, light had gradually grew the higher they went. Soon, they could make out the sky once more through the caved in ceilings, and the moment they were at the top of the stairs, in front of them after a pair of pillars was what looked like either an altar or pedistal with hieroglyphic images surrounding it on the wall. The wall itself had a divot, vs if something was meant to be there.
"What do you think was there?" Tyler broke the silence.
Kathryne narrowed her eyes at the hollow space. "Something important," she paused to look down. At her feet were tracks of something being dragged, but that wasn't what caught her eye. It was the reflection of light in the ground. Using the tip of her toe, Kathryne moved the dust around to reveal gold specs. "Something gold."
"It couldn't be El Dorado, could it?"
"No, El Dorado was the city of—" she stopped herself for a moment to think. She had been mentally flipping through her memories to think of what could have been there. Many books she had read explained the myth of the city, but only few mentioned the actual history. Furrowing her brows, Kathryne slowly nodded. "No, you're right. The legend was the city, but El Dorado translates to the Golden Man. People of this civilization believed their rulers to be gods, and to show their importance, they would be dipped in gold."
Tyler looked up at the divot in the wall. It was well over twice his size in height. "But a man couldn't be this tall."
"No, of course not. Maybe it was a commemorative statue or something. I don't know exactly."
"So, what now? We just turn around?"
"Not yet."
Tyler tilted his head slightly. "But there's nothing here. Just gold specs and a hollow space."
"And tracks," Kathryne followed said tracks with her eyes to another corridor. "There's still a trail to follow. And you bet your ass I'm gonna follow it."
"You're not giving up until you find the statue, or whatever it was, aren't you?"
"Damn right. Let's go." Without another word, she turned to follow the tracks into the next hall. Partway through, she saw that it had a little drop down, to which she merely jumped down. "Careful over there, it drops," Kathryne advised her brother before making the quick right. Vines seemed to decorate the walls more than before, she suspected that they were closer to an exit. The hall took a left, and just as she thought, there was the back way out.
Tyler stuck right behind her. He refused to let her out of his sights, but that was just because he was usually the protective older brother. (You should have seen how he reacted to Kathryne and Tohen, Joxy was close to losing her brother.) "Looks like the Spanish got in the easy way," he observed from how the wall was crumbling.
"Probably. Guess they really wanted that golden thing."
"Who wouldn't? It must have been worth billions, probably trillions now."
They followed a path up. Though the tracks seemed to have ended, Kathryne wasn't stopping. And Tyler knew that, which is why he didn't stop her a second time.
"You hear that?" Kathryne asked after a minute or so of silence.
Tyler took a moment to listen past the sounds of them moving. "Is that a waterfall?"
The duo exchanged a look before pressing forward. Just as the narrow path cleared, they saw the waterfall they heard, plus a little more. It was a submarine. In the middle of the Amazon.
"Is that a...?"
"German U-Boat from World War II? Yes, yes it is."
"You're going in it, aren't you?"
"Of course I am."
Their conversation was cut short when they were silenced by the sound of a gun cocking. Oh, shit.

Chapter 1; Preparing
Series: Path of Pyrite Fandom: Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune Word Count: 1,360 Words
Due to the complications of getting to Machu Picchu, Tyler had suggested to Kathryne that their best chances were to fly to fly into Leticia, Columbia. It was a city at the very end of Columbia, and very close to the borders of Perú and Brazil. By the time they landed in Vasquez Cobo International Airport, it had been almost seven in the morning.
After checking in at the Decalodge Ticuna, the first thing Tyler had done was flop onto his bed stomach first. Despite sleeping on the plane, tiredness caught up to him quickly. Kathryne on the other hand, set her things down and took out her laptop. Once she got it connected to the internet, she opened her browser to check her email, then Skype to make a call. The line rang for a few moments before the person answered.
"Look at you, right on time," a woman said. This woman was an Asian with blonde hair, blue eyes (an odd sight, right? It was hereditary traits), and many many tattoos.
Kathryne smiled. "You weren't waiting up for us, were ya, Joxy?"
Joxy shook her head. "Nah, I was up early to do some work on the boat. How was the flight?"
"Long, boring, I was on my computer for most of the time, while your man was asleep," she then briefly looked over at Tyler in the other bed. He appeared asleep right now. "which I think he is as of this moment, too."
"Ty's always asleep when he has nothing to do. It's been like that since high school, trust me." Joxy leaned against her desk.
"Oh, I know. I'm his sister, I'm suppose to know." As she spoke, Kathryne had reached up to tie her long raven tresses out of the way and into a high bun. "So, how's the Florida Keys treating you? Where are you now?"
"I'm at Lignumvitae Key, the island that's also a state park. I'm out here to get a look at the aquatic preserve," Joxy could be seen leaning over to the side of her camera, which was actually overlooking the side of her boat. Thank God for wifi hotspots. "So far, the Keys are treating me well, and so are the animals."
"Are you gonna go for a dive soon?"
"Hell yeah, I am. I had to go through the state and the botanical park to be able to observe the preserve. There's no way I wouldn't after all that." The blonde soon came back into screen completely. "Oh! Also, do you still need me to email you those drawings of those statues I did for you?"
"Yes, please. I need them for reference."
With a nod, Joxy then focused her gaze on the screen. Clicking of her keyboard as well as her mouse could be heard through the Skype call. And within a few minutes, a notification for Kathryne's email appeared. "There ya go. I still can't believe you're going through with this. You better actually find El Dorado."
Kathryne leaned back with a chuckle. "If I find it, then you're taking me to the Bermuda to go find Atlantis."
"Is that a bet, little Catreel?"
"You bet your ass it is."
Joxy smirked. "Fine, it's on." She would have said more, but she noticed that another boat had started to draw closer. It was the other marine biologist with her. "Well, that's my cue to go. Don't do anything illegal with your brother, it'd be great to have you both in Savannah when I get home."
"I'll try not to, but I don't know about him. Have fun on your dive."
With the two exchanging a final goodbye, the call ended, and Kathryne then went to check her email. The drawings that Joxy had sent to her were based off of descriptions she had found in books and online, some which were rumored to have come from the expedition journal of Sir Francis Drake when he was looking for El Dorado in the late 14th Century. Then again, that was a load of bull because the journal had been lost just before he passed. Pulling out her notebook from her bag and a pen, Kathryne then began to jot notes down.
After doing a little bit more research on the matter, Kathryne saw it fit to follow her brother and take a little nap before heading out. They needed the energy to hike after all. Tyler was the first one to wake up, and that was at almost noon. He had decided to let Kathryne sleep a little longer, being that she hadn't slept on the flight and probably needed it. He took the liberty of getting them a rental boat up the Amazon River (thank Rya for forcing him to learn Spanish, though he was sure the guy on the other line was holding back the urge to laugh at his shitty Spanish.)
Given maybe another hour or so, Tyler soon woke up Kathryne like he always did; by throwing his weight on top of her. "Wake up."
Kathryne grunted at the sudden weight on her. Initial reactions were to try and kick him off, but with being under a hotel blanket, that was harder than it sounded. "Okay, yeah, I didn't need my ribs anyway," she forced out.
Tyler chuckled, then got up off her with his arms crossed. "I got us a boat to travel up the Amazon. You'd be proud of my Spanish."
"Are you only saying that because Rya taught me Spanish growing up, and its a lot hard than it seems?"
"Yes."
"Oh, Ty," Kathryne shook her head before throwing her blanket off her. She then stood up and went to her luggage. Since she was wearing sweatpants and a hoodie, she grabbed a black tank top and black jeans. As she made her way to the bathroom, she spoke again. "So, while we were on the plane, I did a bit of research of where the entrance should be. There's a temple a few miles short off of Chichita. We could dock there and go the rest of the way in a rental."
"By a few miles, what do you mean?"
"Oh, y'know... a few. Maybe twenty miles or so."
"Well, thank God you were suggesting getting a rental."
"You're more lazy than your girlfriend, you know that?" She emerged from the bathroom with her new clothes on, tying her hair up into a pony tail. "Which, by the way, I skyped with her for a bit while you were asleep."
"She's still in the Keys, right? I texted her when I woke up, but she didn't respond."
"She's probably still on a dive, then."
"Probably," Tyler said as he pulled on his boots. "Did she send you the pictures?"
"Yep. We also made a bet. If I actually find El Dorado, she'll help me find Atlantis." Kathryne grabbed a smaller bag she had brought and opened it to throw her notebook in and a waterproof camera, along with her phone and a GPS for when they lose signal. "Okay, so do we need anything else?"
"Yes, we do." He reached over to the other side of his bed to pull over a big box that had already been opened. "Before leaving, I took the liberty of sending our handy dandy trinkets here. Y'know, just in case we run into dangerous wild animals," reaching into the box, he pulled out Kathryne's bow and tossed it to her. "Catch."
Kathryne caught it with ease. With a grin, she ran her hand over the wood arch of the bow. "Aw, yeah. I haven't picked up this baby in a while." When she looked up, Tyler had handed her a quiver of arrows, which she took and attached to her belt. "We won't get in trouble for walking around with these, right?"
"Nah, I'm pretty sure not. Most people go out to the Amazon to hunt anyways. If they do, we can just say we're going on a hunt."
"Well, that's reassuring," she stood. "So, we ready to go?"
Tyler threw his crossbow over his shoulder with a nod. "Let's go."

Prologue; The Next Pin on the Map
Series: Path of Pyrite Fandom: Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune Word Count: 343 Words
"Perú?" Kathryne looked up from her laptop and at her brother, a dark brow arched ever so slightly. "How about there? We could go for Machu Picchu."
"Okay, first off, Kath, you said just last week that you wouldn't go there because literally everyone goes there for their gap year," Tyler stated matter-of-factly before propping himself against the back of the couch where his sister sat. "You do realize going into the Amazon to try and find some of the uncontacted tribes will most likely get you killed, right?"
Kathryne pouted. Damn, she hated how he knew her so well. "Well, what if I'm not going there for the tribes? I might be crazy enough to try and find them, but I'm not suicidal."
"Then why Perú if not for the tribes?"
"Would you kill me if I said El Dorado?"
Tyler furrowed his brows with a head tilt. "You want to find the City of Gold?"
"I swear to God, I will. Just like how I'll find Atlantis."
"I thought you were going to college for musical theatre?"
Kathryne shook her head. "Archaeology. And I want to take up studies in pagan theology. Theatre is just something I did for fun in high school." She then crossed her arms. "So is that a yes?"
Tyler stared at Kathryne for a moment, glanced at her computer screen, then slowly nodded with a sigh. "Okay, fine. You can drag me on one more adventure."
"Aw, c'mon, the Navajo was fun!"
"The threat of being cursed by a shaman was not. The hell are you even planning to get out of finding El Dorado?"
"Gold, duh. Though, there is the possibility that conquistadors had picked the place clean, so finding the ruins would be good enough."
"You're just making a bucket list, aren't you?"
Kathryne grinned. "Of course, big brother. What better way to start college by saying you found the lost City of Gold during your gap year?"
Tyler shook his head. "I cannot believe you're dragging me with you for this."

Chapter 2; Setback
Series: Shattered Glass Fandom: Final Fantasy XV/Kingsglaive Word Count: 1,380 Words
The sound of metal clashing against metal that had first been similar to that of nails dragging against a chalkboard was now numb to the twins' ears. While Storm had been more used to the sounds of combat due to the missions he was sent out on, Katsura, however, she was having trouble.
There were ten Magitek Soldiers barricading the road. Only ten. Storm found that to be rather strange. The Empire wouldn't just send ten of their robotic menaces out of nowhere. There was no sight of any other MTs of sorts in the distance either. At least, none that Storm could see.
"So, I'm not an expert at the Imperial Army," Katsura started, jerking her arm back to remove her blade from the mess of metal and wires then releasing her grip on the handle as it dematerialized completely. "but I don't think that's all the Empire's got."
Storm let out a sigh before nodding in agreement. "No, you're right. There's no reason for there to be a blockade of MTs in the middle of nowhere," he said, once more observing their surroundings in case there were any more mechanical men on their way. "Strange."
He then looked back at his sister, taking into note how she was still catching her breath, but clearly trying to play off the fact that she was winded. He didn't blame her, though. She wasn't used to the fighting unlike he was. "Are you okay, Kat?" Storm had to ask.
The redhead nodded slowly. "'Course I am. Just catchin' my breath here," she said with a reassuring smile. She then straightened up. "So, what now? Do we keep going?"
"I would assume so. There's nothing standing between us and Lestallum now. Unless you wanna stay here and wait for something."
"No, no. Let's just go."
Storm couldn't help but grin at how quickly she ended up choosing. "Guess fighting isn't your thing."
At that, Katsura went up to her brother and smacked him in the arm. "Excuse you, sir, I was the one who taught you how to fight fist to fist. And I'm an actual teacher."
"Yeah, but who taught you how to use your crystal's magic?"
Katsura opened her mouth to say something slick, but she had nothing to counter at that. Storm began to laugh, while she began grumbling under her breath. "Jackass."
"I love you too, sister. Now c'mon, let's go."
Storm gestured her to the car before heading to the driver's seat. Once Katsura was in and strapped, Storm started up the car once more. But before they could get moving again, Storm felt his phone vibrate in his pocket. With a small groan, the male dug into his pocket and got it out. However, seeing who was calling made him arch a brow. Nonetheless, he answered it.
"Devon, what's up?"
There was a sigh of relief on the other end. "Thank the gods you guys are alright. Where are you two?"
"'Bout a mile from Hammerhead. Why? What's up?"
"There's a bunch of Imperial MTs maybe a mile outside Lestallum. Your mother wanted me to meet up with you guys when I saw them."
Storm sat up straight. "Are you serious?"
"What?" Katsura asked.
"Apparently, there's more MTs just outside of Lestallum," Storm explained to his sister. He then pulled the phone away from his ear and put the phone on speaker so she could hear the conversation as well.
"Wait, what do you mean 'more'?" Devon asked the twins, it was clear that he was worried for the two.
"We just finished getting rid of a blockade of them on the road," stated the redhead as she leaned back in her seat. "Well, there's the rest of them."
"It still doesn't make sense, though. They're miles apart and there's no way the prince would have still been here. More than likely he and the rest of his group would be in Altissia by now. Or at least on their way," Storm looked over at his sister, who was just as confused as he was. What were they trying to stop?
"In any case," Devon cut in. "You guys should find somewhere else to hide for now. I suggest going to Galdin Quay."
The twins gave each other that look of thought before nodding at each other. Storm handed the phone to Katsura before starting to drive. Katsura took the phone off of speaker and placed it to her ear. "We're on our way there. Can you tell our mom the update?"
"Not a problem. I'll call again when the Imperial Army clears up over here. For now, stay put in Galdin Quay."
"Got'cha," was the last thing she said to him before hanging up and putting Storm's phone back into his pocket for him. "So, we're suppose to stay put in Galdin Quay until Devon says its clear."
"Looks like we're gonna need to buy swimsuits for our stay, then," Storm said with a grin. "Remember when the five of us went there together after given a small vacation?"
Katsura nodded with a smile. "Of course I do. Crowe and I went to the spa together while you, Libertus, and Nyx went fishing. I think I still have pictures, too. Wait," the redhead leaned back the back of her seat so she could look through the back among their things to find her scrapbook.
"You kept it in your car?"
"It's my car, of course I did."
She rummaged around the things they had bought for the drive, threw Storm's uniform jacket to the side, even looked under the seat for it. Katsura found it eventually, after remembering she kept it in the pouch of the seat. "Got it."
"That took you forever," the Glaive pointed out.
"I forgot I left it in the seat pouch thing," Katsura straightened up her seat then tucked her legs under her so she could sit in a comfortable position. When she opened the book, the first photo that fell out was a picture of the three of them fishing just like she remembered. "I think this is one of the few times you don't look like you have a stick up your ass."
Storm reached over to lightly hit the redhead in the arm. "Since when do I look like I have a stick up my ass?"
Katsura couldn't help but laugh at her brother. She would had thought that he was used to her name calling or anything like that by now. "When you're on duty. Which was like ninety percent of the time," the redhead snickered, which made Storm roll his eyes. Katsura continued flipping through the scrap book. To think that all of these memories were years ago. Her smile began to fade, before she spoke once more. "Did they ever find who killed Crowe?"
For a moment, Storm had a burst of memories from that day. He remembered being at the citadel, and Nyx running past him in the hall. He could also remember hearing Libertus yelling in the distance, which was what led him to follow behind Nyx. But the moment they got to the morgue, the moment he saw Crowe's body on the autopsy table, it was like the world suddenly came crashing down. The worst part of that day was having to tell Katsura. The Glaive not only lost a good soldier, but the four of them lost a best friend.
"No, they never got the chance to since the Empire came."
Katsura frowned at that response. "I hope they do once this is all over."
Storm reached over to wrap his arm around his sister's shoulders, using his hand to ruffle up her already messy crimson locks. "Don't worry, Kat, when we reclaim Insomnia, we will."
"What makes you so sure that Prince Noctis will even do so?"
"Because I doubt the prince will abandon his royal duties," he then released her so she could sit up straight. "C'mon, I hate seeing you so down. How about once we get to Galdin Quay, lunch and ice cream's on me?" He asked with a sheepish smile, all in attempts to cheer the redhead up.
And it worked. Katsura just couldn't help but chuckle at how idiotic her brother looked. "Okay, fine."

Chapter 1; Flee
Series: Shattered Glass Fandom: Final Fantasy XV/Kingsglaive Word Count: 1,008 Words
"I need you two to get the hell outta here. Like, now!"
"Are you crazy? I'm not leaving you to die out here!"
"You're gonna have to, Storm. Just shut up, and get your sister outta here before you both end up caught in the fight!"
"Would you stop being all noble and heroic? What do I tell Kat if you don't make it out?"
There was a small chuckle. "You won't have to, don't worry. I won't keep her waiting that long."
Bullshit.
The drive was silent. Katsura was sound asleep in the passenger seat as Storm drove. But even though it was silent around them, the thoughts in Storm's head were raging on. He could barely make sense of anything that happened, for it just happened too quickly before him and the rest of the Kingsglaive. One second, they were sent out of the city to take down a fleet of Nifilheim crafts and rescue Princess Lunafreya, the next, members of the glaive were killing each other and the barrier protecting Insomnia had fallen.
"How'd this even happen..." Storm muttered to himself, which was followed with a sigh.
As he leaned one arm against the window to his left, he heard a phone start to ring. It wasn't his since he didn't feel it vibrating in his pocket. But in his peripheral vision, he could see his twin sister begin to stir as well as hear her groan that tired groan she always does. Katsura, while still drowsy, reached into her pocket to pull out her phone and answer it. "Hello?" She asked after yawning.
"You sound like you slept well."
Katsura sat up immediately, now fully awake. "Mom, hey. Did you make it to Lestallum safely?"
"Yes, I did, thanks to Devon's chaperoning. Where are you two?"
"We just left Hammerhead. Daemons at night were an issue and it's not like Storm can fight the big guys like he used to."
"You guys are safe, though?"
"Mom, you don't need to go grey over us. We're safe and on our way to you."
Katsura could hear Eryne's sigh of relief from the other line. "Okay, good. Give me a break, would ya, kid? It's my job as a mom to worry about you two."
"I know, I know. I'm just sayin' don't worry. We got maybe a few more hours on the road before you can cling to us for an hour per twin." Following that was a light laugh from the redhead, as well as the elder on the other line.
"Well, okay, I'll see you guys when you get here. Call if there's an update."
"Not a problem. Love you, mom."
"Love you, mom!" Storm chimed in.
"Love you guys, too. See you soon!"
And then the line cut off. Katsura then dropped her phone onto her lap as she adjusted her seating position so she was more comfortable. "So, anything interesting happened while I was asleep?"
Storm shook his head, momentarily looking at his twin before focusing his eyes back on the road. "Nope. Just the usual roads and cars passin'," he paused for a moment like he normally did while talking and driving since it helps him focus on not crashing. "So, how are you doing?"
Katsura's amethyst-colored eyes looked down at the pendant that hung around her neck. It was a brilliantly colored blue crystal fragment that, under certain lighting, can change it's color to match something similar to the shade of her eyes. "I’m fine, why?"
"You haven’t fought big battles like that before, I’m sure your stamina isn’t as good as it is for swordsmanship than it is with hand to hand. Plus, I’m your brother, I’m allowed to worry.” The battles on their way out of the Crown City were heavy, and he knew well that Katsura wasn’t capable of handling all of it by herself just yet. He hated that she had to be their defense, he hated even more how useless he was without the king’s magic. “I’m sorry you had to be the one to take on the fight.”
“Storm, there’s no need for you to apologize. It had to be done, or else we’d be trapped in the city, and I refuse to be caught by those damn Niffs.”
“Yeah, but making you do all the fighting when the most you could handle in combat was me, I just feel bad for doing that.”
Katsura sighed a drawn out sigh, lifting her head back up only to look down at her phone. “Do you know if Nyx made it out of the city?” she asked, completely changing the topic.
He got the hint from her, saying that she didn’t want to talk about it anymore, so he just shook his head. "I wish I did," said the brunet. "I didn't see him anywhere before coming to get you." Storm looked over at his sister, which he almost regretted. He knew how Katsura felt about Nyx, hearing that must've made it worse on her end. "I'm sorry, Kat."
Katsura took a deep breath, then shook her head. "No, it's fine. I'm sure he's fine. That asshole's too stubborn to be kept down. We'll probably see him in Lestallum."
Storm nodded at that. "Maybe. Him and Libertus both better be there. I don't wanna be the only remaining member of the Glaive that made it out."
"With the ones left? You probably won't be. Libertus is only in two pieces, and Nyx is too stubborn."
There was a small chuckle from the male at that. She was right, though, if anything, those two would make it out of the city pretty okay. He watched as Katsura adjusted herself once more before focusing on the road. However, he stopped the vehicle abruptly, which caused Katsura to extend her arm out in front of her to avoid being flung forward. "What? What is it?"
In the distance, there were a line of soldiers barricading the road. No mistake it was the Imperial Army.
"Magitek soldiers."
