The biggest gripe I have with this series is that Rebecca Yarros will introduce characters, and kill them off in two chapters. Look how many named characters there are in just two books:

Here’s a list of the only characters you need to give a shit about: Violet, Dain, Xaden, Imogen, Garrick, Bodhi, Liam, Mira, Brennan, Cat, Lilith, Varrish, Tàirn, Sgàeyl, Andarna, Ridoc, Rhiannon, Sawyer, Jesinia.

Everyone else is an NPC.
