See now the thing is that Poppy has so much love in her. So much to give. And all of that love has compounded into the duty she feels as a princess-now-queen. Her entire life she's poured her love into trying to do the right thing for her friends, her people, everyone she adores. In a way, her love was oriented into trying to be the absolute best version of herself possible. She wanted to be the one who made the right decisions and did the right things. Because if she wasn't a good princess, good queen, good friend, then she wasn't good enough for the people she cares about.

But see what Branch did, is he loved her.

He didn't love her as his queen, or even just as his best friend. He loved her whole and simply for who she was. And he didn't very much care if she reciprocated because his loyalty was based purly on that love. He would support her whether she wanted him as a follower, friend or partner. Branch's love was completely and indisputably uncondintional. And he proved that to her by telling her to her face that she was making a mistake, showed her that she was hurting him, and still said "I love you."

And I just think that changed Poppy forever.

John was sixteen when he figured out he was living alone.

He probably should have realized it sooner. Months since he left his brothers and moved up north with his father, but then suddenly, all he had was silence and free time. And not in a good way. His father suddenly had little interest in anything except his job and fishing. John could probably die in the woods one day and his father might not have even noticed.

Or maybe John just thought he wouldn't.

John is sixteen when he leaves home for the first time, spending weeks making his way back down to his mother's house - only to find it sold off and abandoned.

The whole trip took over a month but when he returned and was asked where he was, John didn't know what to tell his father. He said camping and it was accepted without fight or worry.

He wonders how long he could be gone at a time.

John is sixteen when he gets a job. It is just part time and doesn't pay a lot, but it is enough for him to get a bit of extra income to spend on the things he wants. His father's job pays well for the both of them to live but John doesn't really see any of it outside of basic bills he has to pay to keep the lights and heat on. He likes the movement and the work, and he gets to talk to people although John doesn't really say much. By this point, he's pretty used to the silence.

He is sixteen when he guts a fish for the first time. His father was gone for a week and there was little food in the house - with less money - but plenty of fishing poles and bait. He goes out, catches a fish and follows a video on how to gut and cook it. His father comes home irritated that his pole and some of his bait is missing but he calms down when he sees leftover fish on the stove. He doesn't apologize for the outburst, but John doesn't expect him to.

He is sixteen when he tries alcohol for the first time. He doesn't understand why his dad likes it.

He is sixteen when he gets lost in the woods for two weeks.

He is sixteen when his father disappears for almost an entire month. Considering John had done this himself; he doesn't say a word when his father trudges through the door looking for dinner.

He is sixteen when he breaks his first bone. It's only his finger but it still hurts. His father wraps it up so it would heal straight. John still isn't sure it did.

He is sixteen when he steps into that tiny hometown church and he leaves the service that day not certain God exists but if He does, maybe John isn't entirely alone.

He is sixteen when he makes a friend. It's not a person.

He is sixteen when he creates his clue board, trying to track down his brothers. He asks everyone; he gathers all of the evidence and intelligence he can. He spends weeks perfecting travel down to his hometown to try and investigate.

He is sixteen when he realizes no one knows anything. Fifteen years of being neighbors with the same people and no one knew where his mother took his brothers.

John is seventeen when he spends his birthday alone just outside a simple old cabin, huddled around a fire with a candle in a marshmallow. He only has one wish.

John is almost seventeen and a half when he can entirely live out in the wilderness by himself if he wanted.

He almost did.

John is seventeen and a half when he follows a girl from church to the recruitment office. They both have things they are running from and neither of them judge. Neither of them can. She stands by his side as they fill out paperwork and she asks him if he's okay. He hasn't been asked that for years.

John gives her a grin that's only partially fake and tells her never better.

John is seventeen and a half when he leaves home for the last time.

And then realizes it was never home at all.

I was scrolling around looking at Trolls content when I saw this---

AND OMG?? BRO-- "wary of emotional connection" I- This little line spoke volumes to me because even though he's wary of emotional connection he somehow manage to befriend Poppy and that warms my heart. Like UGHHHH 🥹❤️

Also the fact that his personality answers the question what Branch would've been like if he never met poppy has me BAWLING. LIKE UGH DUDEEEEE JDJSJS HOW COME I ONLY SAW THIS NOW?? The fact this came from the official site makes this 10x better.

I have a few questions! You've mentioned that all the characters follows their VA (like JD being a comedian because Eric André is also a comedian) So does that mean the other 'Brothers' attend his comedy shows?? Cause I suddenly had this vision of Clay just yelling "You're not funny!" While the others Snicker/cackle behind him.

But yes the other actors are supportive of his career i imagined they’ve all become pretty close over production and if john dory has a show in the area they’ll try to be there but Clay is like his number one anti and fan his ass is always there

I still want all their dynamics to be more organic but i am a fan of this duo mannn i feel like they would crack up a lot whenever clay is rude to john dory in the movie, no bad blood between the actors but yknow gotta play it up for the movie

Had fun coloring this but it took foreveeeeeerrrrrr because of school. As you can see from the "Im Still Here" AU, John Dory is just a tombstone 💀. What are some things that you like about John Dory?

Sorry, this took a while to answer! Got a bit busy.

There is a big difference between canon! JD and Fanon! JD, so the things I like about him kind of blur a bit here.

In canon, one of the things I like about him is how stupidly funny he is. And the fact that he also has this vibe of thinking he's in charge even though he's not. He's headstrong and a bit arrogant, but he means well, and his heart is definitely in the right place. The best description someone gave of his character was from his voice actor: "John Dory thinks he's the alpha, but he actually isn't the alpha," which made me CACKLE 😆.

I also love how very similar yet so different he is to Branch. They're both survivalists, one on defense (Branch) and the other on offense (John Dory). So this immediately made me think of so many scenarios of them just hanging out in the wild. They're also so opposite of each other. Branch is more of a strategy kinda guy while JD is impulsive LMAO.

Now here's where things get a bit Fannon, but is still considered Cannon (?)? I don't know how to explain.

This one line in the movie where he said he came back but the tree was dead MADE ME GO "oh..." LIKE-- IMAGINE THE PAIN HE FELT. I swear the whole franchise is dark asf and we're just deceived by all the glitter and singing. Back to the topic: This made me think a lot about John Dory because, from his outgoing and big personality, you'll never realize how painful his past is. He had to live the past 20 years thinking his brothers were dead! And with that knowledge, looking at all the Brozone merchandise he has around just makes everything 10x more painful; it's the realization that hurts me.

Another Fannon thing I like about him (I think? I'm pretty sure the movie implies it) is that he basically had to raise his siblings. And I know from experience that it is very stressful and exhausting. His meltdown(?) during the argument was probably years of stress finally blowing up. 

As you can see, I have a lot of feelings about John Dory.

Decided to combine the song that has been stuck in my head with my favorite character, and this was born. Literally had the song playing on loop while making this, idk if it matches the vibes but I like it. Also-- I really like the swirly blush thingy, just something I wanted to share lol
