The thing about Cottagecore is that is a fetishized aesthetic of country life, divorced from labor and idealized by a primarily urban audience with a backward looking ethos of tradition. They are not prepared for the stresses of a rural life: farming; harvesting; tapping pumpkins to ensure none of them have been replaced with flesh; losing out on income by having to use one of your pigs in a blood sacrifice to paint protective sigils over your doors and windows; checking cracks and chimneys for the flesh-vines of the Pumpkin Lord; having to decide, before the Growth is complete, whether that's really your tradwife or an amassment of vines, leaves, and blood in the shape of your tradwife; ignoring their desperate pleas that "I'm me! No! No!" as you burn them alive, realizing too late you picked wrong; and the exploitative corporate nature of commercial farming in 2024. All seen through a deeply colonial lens, of course

International Women's Day

It's a state holiday in Russia. Although it's mainly celebrated here as a day of spring, beauty and femininity, I want to remind everyone that it's actually a celebration of women's solidarity in our fight for equal rights.

It's especially important to continue the fight today, when men in power want to strip us of control over our own bodies, impose on us the role of silent womb-havers, make us live in a world of wars, hostility and lies.

Men who offer wisdoms like "The best Women's Day gift for women is a new pregnancy" are disgusting. The men who ourtight refuse to pass an anti domestic abuse law have no business representing women.

I hope for the world when we can have the right to be different and live happy lives outside of the "traditional values" where the man is the pinnacle of creation and the woman, his servant. Where girls can be whoever they want to be in this world, wear whatever they like, be as soft or as tough as they desire; where women are not required to be wives and mothers to be considered normal.

Let's take a minute today to remember our mothers and grandmothers and the path they paved for us. It has been a long path. And let's take another minute to think of other women that exist beside us today and allow them to be different from us, to have different values and opinions. Today, let's all be sisters.
