i keep thinking about that one blogger on here who mentioned applying to 80+ jobs and still not getting a single callback

#yep #i've applied to maybe 150 jobs in the past 2 years and only got 2 callbacks #one for the job i have now and one for an interview i did horribly at #cause companies want you to gush about their 'values' and how GREAT it must be to work there #like ma'am i just want a paycheck big enough to support myself #and some decent benefits while i'm at it so i'm not paying for everything out of pocket #i literally do not care about your company's 'values' #they're probably a load of horseshit anyway

Magic Overview

Magic in the world of Alterra isn't especially common- only those with mytho ancestry or are otherwise individually blessed can use it.

While magic requires an innate ability to even tap into it, special education and training are required to learn to use it safely and effectively. This education tends to be closely guarded and very costly- and the cost keeps going up and up as fewer and fewer are born with the talent.

There are a few different types of magic. While most people can become reasonably skilled in multiple or even all of them, every magic-user tends to have one type that comes most naturally to them. The most common and well-known types are Conjuration, Enchantment, Illusion, Restoration, and Elementalism.

(Necromancy is also well-known in the sense that it's infamous and taboo. There are no known practitioners these days.)

The casting of magic generally requires specific gestures, knowledge of High Systaric, and a great deal of willpower. There are a small number of very high-class spells commonly known as rituals which require material components and a lot of preparation in order to cast them. These are usually reserved for special occasions of great importance, or dire need.

Often "what can I do to take care of myself?" is a more actionable question than "how do I love myself?" or "how do I recover?" Because often you don't need to solve your deepset emotional issues to realize that you'd benefit from eating lunch, or going for a walk, or actually doing your laundry
