Summary: On New Year’s Eve in 2019, Henry never showed up to the White House Trio party and he stopped answering Alex’s texts. Six years later, he shows up at Alex’s house in Austin, adding an unexpected complication to what already promised to be one of the most complicated weekends in Alex’s life. In something of a haze, Alex keeps walking towards his house, until he meets Henry and his PPOs in the driveway. “Your Royal Highness,” he says, something vicious inside him he’s learned to leash most of the time enjoying the minute flash of disappointment he spies in Henry’s eyes at the use of his official and utterly correct title. “It’s a surprise to see you here. What can I do for you?”

🪲Stink Bug🪲

Niamh is big and tough okay? The bug just flew reallyyyyy close to her hand.

“Agatha!!” Niamh shouts from the other side of the flat. 

I walk into the bathroom to find the faucet running and my girlfriend smushing her large frame into the very narrow space between the toilet and the bathtub. 

“What?” I ask, furrowing my brow. 

She points to the sink counter, cowering away from it. 

There sits a little green bug, exploring the white vinyl. 

“It's just a stink bug, Niamh.”

“Yes, but made a really loud buzz!” She huffs, “and nearly landed on my hand!” she waves her wet hand for emphasis and flicks water all over the room. 

I can't stop the roll of my eyes, or the exhale of amusement. 

“Will you just take care of it for me, please?”

She looks so pitiful like this, muscular arms crossed protectively across her chest. 

“Alright.” I never could resist a sufficiently whiney ‘please’ from my girlfriend. 

I quickly grab a wad of toilet paper and squish the thing with an unpleasant crunch. 

“Agatha what the fuck!!” Niamh yells when I lift the toilet paper and swipe up the remaining bug guts from the counter. “I didn't mean kill it!” She whines, her blue eyes turning watery. 

“You told me to deal with it!” I defend myself. 

“I meant take it outside! You just murdered the poor thing!”

Niamh’s voice gets a little shaky, she steps towards me, reaching for my hand with the mangled corpse, before thinking better of it. 

I forgot she’s started caring about bugs since she watched some documentary about insects last month. She tried making me watch it but I get so bored sitting through documentaries. 

“Babe,” I say, awkwardly binning the insect in my hand and trying to console my girlfriend. “It's fine, Penny told me once these stink bugs are invasive, okay?” I place a hand on Niamh's shoulder. 

“You’re sure?” She furrows her brow. 

“Yeah, they like wreak havoc on native trees or something.”

“Oh,” she looks down, putting on her thinking frown.

“I guess it's for the greater good then,” she sighs. 

I nod, leading us out of the bathroom. 

Thank magick she didn't see me kill that spider I found in the kitchen cabinet last night.

Just when Scott says that, I hear a small explosion coming from the Wavering Woods and on a cue, Simon Snow and Penelope Bunce run towards it. Agatha Wellbelove watches them leave. So do we. This is a normal occurrence. Even the smoke coming from the Woods doesn’t faze me anymore. I do feel back for John, who now also manages the Woods for his side job. Can Simon Snow please let anything outside of Watford explode for once?

In Simon's defense, he HAS destructed more than Watford, but good ole MCD doesn't know.

Don't normally do the Wednesday WIP day (peep the hastily edited banner), but I am in the mood for talking today. Thanks for the tags @brendughh @shrekgogurt @prettygoododds @thewholelemon and @monbons! And @hushed-chorus, I'm so excited to read all the fics on that rec list!

In terms of writing, I have accomplished a minimal portion of the editing needed for the next chapter I'm posting from Proof of Life. I'm very excited about this one and I think you guys are going to really like it! I'll share a real snippet on Sunday, but this chapter was really fun because I got to make up some more spells!

Making up spells is one of my favorite things to do for fics and honestly it was kind of sad that this fic didn't call for it too much. My last long wip (Do As You're Told) had a bunch of spells comparatively and I had so much fun creating them. I always start by googling "list of clichés" and scrolling past the first part of whatever article I find that says "do not use clichés in your writing", then look through to find phrases that speak to me.

I also check that list of spells on the Snowbaz wiki, i'm unsure how accurate that is because I know fanwiki's can have dubious information sometimes, but I like to have a mix of canon spells and new spells. One time though I thought I'd made up a spell and then it was already on the wiki and I was so sad 😭

All that being said, here's an alphabetical list of spell used and/or discussed in chapters 5 and 6 of Proof of Life. Purple ones I've made up
