Fast Fashion Goes Sustainable?
Tumblr media
Source: http://about.hm.com/en/sustainability.html
In recent years we have seen a mega trend push the industry into serving a more environmentally conscious consumer. Fast fashion brands such as H&M, Zara and TopShop, who are known for their unsustainable overconsumption of goods; now have sustainable lines showcased in their stores.
This week we dive into H&M’s sustainability Work!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Source: H&M.com Conscious- Sustainable Style
As many of you may know H&M has a sustainable line called Conscious. It is sold both in stores and online. The garments are easily identifiable with their large green tags that say Conscious. Many times the tag also states why the garment is sustainable. I own a couple pieces from the conscious collection and the price point is the same as the other items in the store. Making it easy to choose sustainability!
H&M has also made other efforts in sustainability such as their recycle program!
youtube
Source: www.youtube.com
H&M States “We believe fashion is far too precious to end up in landfills. That is why in 2013, we launched our garment collecting initiative worldwide. You can drop off your unwanted garments - no matter what brand and what condition - in all our H&M stores across the globe.” and with the donation you recieve a coupon for your next purchase. The Concious Collection features recycled clothing made from their recycle program!
Tumblr media
Source: H&M sustainability
Tumblr media
Source: H&M Sustainability
WORKING CONDITIONS
“The H&M group does not own any factories. Our products are made by independent suppliers, often in developing countries. It would be impossible for us to operate if we did not take responsibility for how the people working for our suppliers are treated.” The company claims to only work with partners who share their values in sustainablility and fair working conditions.
Tumblr media
Source: H&M Sustainability
Today October 10, 2017 H&M Group has invested in a new unique recycling technology!
Tumblr media
Source: H&M Media
“H&M group have partnered with Swedish company re:newcell, whose unique technology recycles used cotton, viscose and other cellulosic fibers into a new, more sustainable dissolving pulp. The pulp can be turned into new textile fibers and be fed into the textile production cycle. The partnership is another step towards H&Ms goal to use 100% recycled or other sustainably sourced material by 2030.”
H&M Group is heading the shift into a more sustainable future for fast fashion retailers and this is only a small portion of the work they are doing. I am excited to see the company reach its sustainability goals in the coming years and the new goals that they set!
