In Anankos’s defense, Ryuurei was born adorable, and when he’s a wee tiny thing and first meets the big dreg, he’d just go STAR-EYES immediately and just want to hug his tail all the time

Since before he had been made the Imperial King-- back when his father still lived and sang for the dragon instead-- Ryuurei had been enamored with Anankos. It was dazzling, the prospect of this towering beast, so protecting, and so in love with music. As a child, he revered him. As a young man, he had befriended him.

Now, he looked on Anankos, be he dragon or man, with love and kindness, as if he were anybody else. Far from the god that he truly was.

He had taken a light jog to reach his friend today. After the council meetings were through (today it was a report on the surprising upturn in economy of the smaller villages outside the capital, and more reasons why he needed to hurry up and decide on one of the marriage options presented to him).

“Anaaaaaankos~” he called, voice a slight sing song as he came down the grassy hill, towards the dragon and the stream. 

“How’s my favorite ethereal deity doing today?”

In a way- he envied humans. Markets and streets were filled with them, haggling or busying themselves with errands and even stopping to pass on news to a friend. They had homes. Families. Everything else that made the Vallite society whole. They graced him with questions and philosophies that  tickled him often enough that he was more than happy to answer a child’s question of why the sky is blue just as much as discussing theories with a scholar. If anyone had seen the dragon in that moment though, his distant eyes were staring at the fish that danced with colors. It was horrid thinking. But every now and then he would regret breaking his stone into fragments to empower the royalty. “… ?” Anankos slowly lifted his head, leaving the thoughts behind to see what the sound was that he heard in the distance- footsteps? Was Ryuurei coming to visit?
