In the future...

I’ve been hooked on finding sales and stuff on Seraphim for years now and I think one of the things I’ll be doing in near future is bring cool finds on weekend sales as early as possible  so my readers can take advantage of them.

When it comes to bodies I think amongst myself and my alts I have a good range: Inithium Kupra and Kario, Ebody Reborn, Maitreya Lara, and Belleza Venus, Freya and Isis as well as the latest Gen.X Curvy and I find each one has its good points.

6.0 Already?!?

So I said I had tried the Reborn demo and I liked it and over this weekend I made the move. As far as my body materials, it was about as much of a hassle as the M3 Venus head I used to put textures in but I guess beauty takes time.

Now a big reveal here is my more human look:

My friend Revy, who left her Riku forms a long, long time ago asked why my hips are so wide compared to hers if she’s my prototype. I told her that in later years the Rikugou also had a wider hip shape and I became accustomed to it so to me moving to the Ebody Reborn was a natural progression in my development.

D.E.M.O. 5.0′s Completion

So, as everyone knows I’m an alt of an alt of an alt and sometimes that means an alt takes a back burner when your main has a crap ton of stuff to do but as the new year unfolded, my new form reached completion.

Now, ages ago when I started this project I went with the Maitreya Lara body because it consistently had the most stuff for it and also, to duplicate my skin as a Riku, went with the Nanite System’s Liquid Metal Skin which comes with materials and a hud to add them to the Lara. Choosing a head was harder but in December I went with the LeLutka Raven which was free with group, which was also free.

I tried finding an EvoX head skin that had a look I wanted but wound up sticking to the BOM skin I already had from Nanite and this is where the work began. There’s no materials applier for LeLutka with the Nanite System’s Liquid Metal Skin but if you get into the LeLutka EvoX folder there’s a thing called “Creator Kit LeLUTKA 3.1″ which has instruction on building an applier hud.

If you just follow the instructions it tells you exactly how to make an applier and since the Nanite System’s Liquid Metal Skin comes with the normal and spec maps you can easily add the UUIDs and make your own materials applier for the head. Above you see my simple looking hud that applied the materials. I matched up the glossiness, intensity and environment to the same settings as my body.

The final piece I needed was the eyes. If these look familiar, they should, I made these eyes YEARS ago. Having the power of knowing how to make materials appliers for the skin I made another hud for making my eyes. I then got into TAILOR MAKE section of the LeLutka hud and clicked eyes and set my glow and full bright.

So now, as 2023 starts I’ve finally completed the latest version of myself. However I have been looking at the Reborn body and think I might give that a try. See you next time!

I know it’s been a long time since I posted. I left sl for a while completely because of a busy rl but things are slowing down and I’ve had the time to get back to second life and, something I’ve been meaning to do for AGES, update my avatar. Hopefully by this weekend I’ll be able to unveil my D.E.M.O. v5.0 avatar with notes on body parts and where to find them.

So I’ve been playing with things or busy with rl and I’ve thought about doing my t’mblrs but haven’t and even thought about doing one as one of my alts but she’s a dumb jock that would only be writing grunts of unreadable gibberish so....

Ok first I wanted to talk about something that thrilled me and I snatched up after finding it to be SO awesome. Not the Normie, I’ll get to that later. I’m talking about krankhaus’s cropped leather hoodie. My alt Froggy wears the Maitreya Lara body and when I browsed and saw that the cropped leather hoodie was designed to fit the Lara I tried the demo and bought it.

The cropped leather hoodie is designed to fit the Kuroo, Maitreya, and Maitreya V-Tech chest. Here Froggy is wearing it with the Catwa Selma hair (Catwa did hair before they did heads) which is covered completely by the hood with no clipping. As a long time enjoyer of Krankhaus I was thrilled that I could take that love and now enjoy it with more than just my av2.0 and kemono bodies. Now you might look at the top pic and be thinking, “woah woah woah, is D.E.M.O. wearing the Normie with the Avatar 2.0 body? Isn’t that designed to fit the more mainstream bodies?” It is but yes, I set mine up to work with both my avatar 2.0 and rikugou bodies it’s about the chin-jaw line up which can make it so that the Normie will work with the rikugou and avatar 2.0 bodies. It’s my hope that if any skin designers read this they might think of making matching skins to fill in the gaps. I used an old full perm skin that I made into an omega applier to add a skin on the Normie to match a light skin tone built into the avatar 2.0. I already had a system skin tone I made that matched my normal gray/shiny metal skin tone

Update to Avatar 2.0

I had to go over it with a fine tooth comb, or as much as someone without technical knowledge can.

Pictured you see me in full avatar 2.0, including the head which I had to update my skin mod to take into consideration since I usually use the M3 Venus. This is after having to tinker with shape sliders since now the lower half of the body is fitted mesh and the head is bento.

Let’s talk about cons first: your favorite shape may make your legs look like stick figures and you may look facially like Akhenaten. Your eyes will likely be visible even with your eyes closed. There are no pointy, elfy ears. Here’s the things: these can all be fixed by adjusting your shape (I don’t know about the pointy ears thing, i doubt it but I’ll try it and tell you later.) There’s a chance your skin mod appliers won’t work on the head and according to uti’s group they’re going to be working on that.

Now all that said it’s overall interesting to me so, pros: you’re paying 500L for all the things people are paying thousands for between head and body in the mainstream, while it’s gotten more time consuming adding your own mods through the body hud you can now also add normal and spec maps. For those that want thicker thighs they can adjust that through the sliders, with the head being bento not all people with the avatar 2.0 will look the same now.

Overall I think if you’re just now thinking of getting the avatar 2.0 you’re getting a steal and if you’ve had it already, there’s a lot of clothes and the body being updated but, hey, it’s the price you pay for having bought an awesome product, and updates are like getting presents!

My Biggest Annoyance Fixed

The hardest, most painstaking thing I’ve ever done is adding normal maps to the Utilizator M3 Venus head. It was so bad I didn’t even update with the last update because I didn’t want to have to do it all over again. This problem, luckily, has been solved.

Checking out Uti’s site today I saw that Kurombo had done specular/normal map appliers for the kemono-venus head. I checked out the site and was at first disappointed seeing only a spec map applier but then under kemono_body_spec_applier, below the main lsl I found one just for the M3 Venus that applied both spec and normal maps. I had to log on and try it.

Success! I put the uuids for my spec and normal maps into the script and put them in a copy of the head for testing purposes and it worked perfectly.

Being a sci fi fan the holographic avatar idea was really cool but I had to be sceptical. It's actually very interesting looking, it even flickers as if the signal is cutting in and out. It could also be used as a ghost or "invisible but visible" avatar without the projector.

Second Life, contests, and lingering doubts

I’ve come a long way since I first put on an alpha and became a RIkugou. My skin has gone through countless updates as I honed my look and I’ve seen a ton of failures before I finally got the look I wanted. Still one failure, which I look back and it wasn’t really a falure it was bad timing and I know I wasn’t really ready, was the first Rikugou contest which I was able to enter and missed the deadline for that still haunts me to this day.

This comes up because the most recent one has been announced. Theres two new armor sets coming out like the time before. To enter or not is the question. What was going to be my entry the first time was the original concept for the bumblebee mods and an update to my skin which was a total fail.

I was really heart broken when I missed that one and almost canceled this account. I know now I wasn’t ready and even then I knew the mods were failures. I did wind up doing the bumblebee mods but with new understanding and new stuff and advanced light settings it all looks so much better.

I’m proof that taking time to understand aspects of sl can help you become the avatar you want to be or dream of (having Ls helps of course) and I’ve met so many awesome people having the look I developed but this one thing takes me back to the me I once was: struggling to perfect my look and sucking at it (lmao).

My thanks go out to my loving family and friends in sl: Revy who was the first riku among us, Kati for...well...being Kati, K who started out as a creator who I blogged about but now he’s one of my besties and Motoko has and always will have my love for creating stuff for Rikus despite what haters say. These people inspired me to be the best D.E.M.O. I can be.
