What’s all this about?
Hi kiddies. We haven’t been formally introduced yet, have we? My name is [redacted] and I’m on a hunt for the best first date spot in New York City. Specifically bars. Because let’s be real, you really should test drive that new person over drinks before going full-on-dinner plans. Especially if this is a tinder/okcupid/hinge/coffeemeetsbagel/[insert date site here]. Trust me, you need the alcohol.
This isn’t a novel idea, I’m sure. More qualified people than myself have done the research and compiled lists upon lists that you can reference. But I find those lists uninspired and lacking in some personal anecdotes from said spots. I need the details, man! Why is this a good bar for a date? Don’t give me that bullshit about a good ambiance - did you actually go on a date there? Did you test it out on your own skin? What was it like?
So here’s my promise to you - every bar I’m going to write about here has been tried and tested by yours truly. Okay, maybe occasionally by my brave single friends. I’ll give you all the juicy gossip about what it actually feels like to be on a date at that bar.
How is this going to work? Well, ladies and gentlemen, I’m throwing myself into the dirty cesspool that is the New York dating scene for the sake of this research. Totally just for research. Not because I just broke up with the biggest douchebag that I somehow fell in love with and allowed to lead me on for over a year. For each first date, I’m either going to suggest a bar or follow my date’s suggestion (at my own risk) and then give my thumbs up or down on the spot. What about second, third dates? I’m not letting it get past that point kiddies. I’m devoting myself to this first-date-only search, all for you. I’m such a martyr, I know. I’m totally not bitter, hurt and wanting to stay the hell away from all relationships going forward. (Thanks a lot [redacted]. Now go to hell.)
So, friends and family, though really I hope not family because this is definitely going to get inappropriate, let us go forth and find the best first date bar in New York City.
