I rarely ever stop and think about how much i’m struggling because most of the time i end up spiraling, but i saw a tiktok where a young person with DID told an elderly person with DID about their high alter count and the older person’s response wasnt judgement or doubt but simply “and they’re all still you”.
Something about older people with similar experiences to me really hits me. It… gives me hope… seeing older queer people, older disabled people, all of that… like while i’m caught in the whirlwind of how HARD everything is it’s so relieving to see the people who have been through it to and made it to the other side…
Also, the thought that THAT was their response… they knew in that moment that the younger person they were talking to was being vulnerable. They knew enough to know how hard life has to be for a person to get to that point… and they reached out with understanding and kindness and said “they are all still you”. Not in a invalidating way, but in a way that humanizes and comforts and makes everything feel less big and scary…
Alters are parts of a whole. Whether we realize it or like it we are all on the same team. We were formed for the same reason- to protect us. To keep us going when life was hell. To keep us going when life keeps coming. No matter how hard being a system can be, how much we disagree, how much it disables us, the symple phrase of “they’re all still you” and remembering that you are also them is… yeah…
So thank you random tiktoker, and extra thank you to the person who said it to you. I hope one day i get to meet someone older with DID or OSDD and just… talk.
brennan is so woman in burrow’s end but not in a sexy way more of a “I’m trying to control what I can and do what I must but the world won’t stop beating down on me” way
Here’s my metaphor for systemhood that I tell my singlet friends.
Imagine you’re playing a first person video game. You have the controller, you control your character. It’s a normal first person game. You are an alter, the character is the body. This is fronting.
Other people live with you. Sometimes, they come into the room and sit and watch while you play. They sometimes try to guide you, give you advice on what to do next. They don’t always agree, and they can argue with each other. Other times they scream at you that you’re doing everything wrong and you suck at this game. This is co-consciousness.
Imagine how distracting it would be for people around you to tell you what to do, or to scream at each other or at you, even if they have good intentions. It wouldn’t be easy to focus on your game, would it?
Then sometimes, something happens in the game that prompts you to hand off the controller to someone else so they can play and you get a break. This is (some types of) switching. This can be good.
Other times, someone rips the controller out of your hand or fights you for it. This is (other types of) switching. And sometimes, six other players hook up their controllers, but there’s only one character to play as. So all of you have your controllers, but you’re all trying to play the same character. This is cofronting.
Imagine how difficult that would be. Imagine how hard it would be to try and play a game while someone is trying to take the controller from you, or while six other people are trying to play too.
There are also times that nobody is playing, or you can’t decide who should play. What’s happening to the character in the game? What are they doing if no one is playing? This is dissociation. The character is doing nothing. They’re stuck.
This is the best metaphor I have come up with for being a system. It’s something a lot of people get because they’ve played games before.
a reminder that the host isn’t the only person in the system who should be respected and made to feel comfortable.
the host is not ‘the important part’, we are all completely conscious and capable of our own thoughts, feelings and our own boundaries. our brain created us because it decided that we are all important and needed.
the host is not the only member of a system you should care about.
PSA: If you are using Pluralkit or Tubberbox, go save your avatar files NOW.
Discord has been implementing a feature where direct links to images uploaded to Discord will no longer work after 24 hours. If you want more information, please check out this post by twilight-sparkle-irl. As Pluralkit and Tubberbox both use the direct links for images uploaded to discord for member avatars, this will likely affect these two bots.
I've talked to the Pluralkit devs and they have informed me that Pluralkit and Tubberbox devs are in talks with Discord to see how this will affect the bots. No updates as of yet but once I hear anything I'll update this post.
In the meanwhile, I highly suggest everyone to save alter avatars if they can. I'll be providing a link to an external tool that you can use in the reblogs of this post.
UPDATE: One of the helpers/mods for Pluralkit/Tupperbox has made a post about the situation. I definitely recommend people to read it when they can. If Tumblr breaks the link, I have a reblogged version of this post with the link there.
Tbh, I am kinda mad at DID discovery, cause all the things I used to daydream about turned out to be inner world places and stories, and if I daydream about them now, it'd just be awkward cause it might get leaked.
I made this blog? thingy? mainly to talk about system stuff and my experience as well as other mental health stuff and also engage with other people’s posts about the topic. we’ll see if i actually use this lmao
as a quick intro to my system, we’re the Flock System! We’re an undiagnosed (but currently working on it but the health care system in America sucks) DID system. we have a high alter count and are polyfragmented. our hosts are Martin, Clouds, and Tubs, but i’m willing to bet it will be mainly me (Tubs) who posts here. We collectively use he/him pronouns although if someone who doesnt use those posts we’ll try to make sure they include their pronouns in the post (no promises).
I’m mainly gonna use this as a platform to unfodump about facts, rant about misinformation and the bad healthcare system, and talk about my life experience.
other disorders we may talk about are; POTS, autism, adhd, anxiety, depression, tourrettes, FND, and OCD. the focus will be our DID but the rest are also part of our life experience and being a mess of disabilities is part of the fun!
sorry in advance if i suck at tumblring im just trying a thing and hoping for the best
