🎉 I got vaccinated! Woo-hoo! I’ll give a quick synopsis of how the experience went for those of you who are in the process of making a decision about whether to get the vaccine. FYI - I respect everyone’s choices about the vaccine. You do you! But for anyone who is curious: ⭐️ I was quite nervous about getting the vaccine given my history of life threatening food allergies. I was worried about going into anaphylactic shock. After discussions with my doctor, it was determined that there’s a high likelihood that I would be okay. ⭐️My doctor wrote a note saying that I should be monitored for an hour given my history of multiple life- threatening allergic reactions. ⭐️ The process went rather seamlessly once I arrived at the vaccination center. However, more work went into the preparation part, which included aggregating the proper documentation needed to get the shot (e.g. doctors notes, identification, etc.). I was super buttoned up with this process which made vaccination day run smoothly. ⭐️ I carried my EpiPens with me (which I do anyways) in case anything went wrong. #epifirstepifast ⭐️The actual injection process was super quick, over before I knew it. I got the Moderna vaccine - today was the first dose. ⭐️The nurses were super nice and patient with me. A huge thank you for our nurses and all medical staff involved in the vaccine rollout - they are MVPs! The nurses monitored me closely and asked several times how I was feeling during the hour I was being monitored. My doctor called me once I got home to see how I was doing. #blessdoctorsandnurses ⭐️The only effects I noticed were that my hand was swollen from the injection. This lasted for about 15 minutes, then went away. ⭐️ Hours later, I still feel fine. My arm is pretty sore, but that’s it. I write an update should anything change. 🎉Glad the first dose is done! If there’s any advice I could give, it would be ask lots of questions beforehand and be prepared. But also, relax! Happy St. Patrick's Day☘️ ☘️Usually St. Patrick's Day is my favorite holiday and I enjoy celebrating by baking #glutenfree Rish soda bread, wearing tons of green, and drinking #glutenfree beer. ☘️But recent times with social distancing have made St. Patrick's Day feel less festive for the second year in a row. ☘️I feel lucky for all my blessings. However, the (continued) violence this week from anti-Asian hate adds an extra layer of sadness. I hate to reduce the sadness I feel to just a hashtag because it doesn't feel like I'm taking enough action. Therefore, in an effort to take real action, I'm taking a class about bystander intervention for stopping anti-Asian hate crimes. I encourage you all to take meaningful action during this critical time. The Asian community really needs us right now. We are lucky to have them in our country. #stpatricksday #stopasianhate #lucky #foodallergies #autoimmunedisease #wellness #openyourheart (at Manhattan, New York) https://www.instagram.com/p/CMiqiVhJ4pL/?igshid=btpvxxra64tj

🥗In the US, we learn the Pledge of Allegiance as way to devote oneself to our country. I wish we had something similar for food. We're not taught to promise ourselves to eat food that are healthy and nutritionally valuable for us, ultimately leading to a better quality of life. 🥗One of the keys to improving our health - whether it be an autoimmune disease, a food allergy, high blood pressure, etc. - is to devote ourselves to consistent effort to better eating habits. We don't need to be perfect; we just need to make progress. 🥗In my work, my clients see how they can make vast improvements to improving their autoimmune conditions and food allergies management by taking little baby steps. 🥗Whether or not you have an autoimmune condition or food allergy, you can do the same. Here's an affirmation or a devotion you can say to yourself each day: 💖”I, [insert your name], love myself, and as act of love to myself, I will eat quality, whole foods which give my body energy, vitality, and the support it needs to function properly now and for years to come." 💖Feel free to edit this affirmation as you wish. The important thing is to make a devotion to yourself that puts you on the path towards better health and self-love. ✏️If you have a devotion or an affirmation that you say or write to yourself, I'd love to hear it! If you don't currently have an affirmation, what would it be? (at Eating) https://www.instagram.com/p/CMM5HnOpChw/?igshid=1bvfq6theranv

🎙If it's Wellness Wednesday, then another episode of the Food Sitch podcast has arrived! 🎙This week's episode is Part 1 of the 'Ask Me Anything' series where previous podcasts guests @marccasiono @lianprice and @ldmteam ask me about how I manage my own health challenges like asthma and food allergies and eating a plant-based diet. I so appreciate their curiosity and willingness to learn. 🎙In my work, each one of my clients have unique experiences with autoimmune diseases and food allergies, and those experiences are to be valued. We all have different personalities, bodies and ways of living which should be respected. 🎙I hope this episode helps you to understand how your own health experiences have shaped you as person and where you want your future health to go. 🎙You can check out the episode! wherever you get your podcasts. #spotify #applepodcasts #googlepodcasts #foodsitch (at Podcast-ing) https://www.instagram.com/p/CL-wg4Ap7J0/?igshid=p1f2zxhpr7uk

📚Today was Read Across America Day, a day to encourage children and teenagers to...yep, you guessed it - read! 📚One genre of books I love reading is children’s food allergy books. Food allergy books are far departure from the biographies and business books I usually read, but I get so much fulfillment from them. I also enjoy reading food allergy books to kids I volunteer with, like I did during the holidays. What’s interesting is that even kids *without* food allergies enjoy reading food allergy books. 📚That’s what I love about reading - Books can can open you up to a whole new world and give you a better understanding about other people. 📚I recommend the book “Peanut-Free Tea for Three.” It’s a delightful book that will make you feel empowered, regardless of whether you have a food allergy or not. 📚Let’s all encourage our youth to read more! It’s way better than Fortnite 😂 📚Share below! What was your favorite book to read as a child? (at In My Room Reading) https://www.instagram.com/p/CL7-UjQJ29y/?igshid=12tuhyf5etaj3

Happy Monday, everyone! Can you believe it's March already? We are *so close* to getting to those warmer spring and summer months. In the meanwhile, we still need to stay warm and cozy. I had the chance to talk about topic on FARE's @foodallergy show called Mocha Talk with #foodallergymom Denise Bunning. Learn about the food allergy friendly drinks I make to keep myself warm, how I stay connected to nature in the cold, and the travel destinations I've been to that were food allergy safe as well. Thanks so much to @foodallergy and Denise for having me! Question: How do you all keep yourself warm during the cold, winter months? Comment below! I'm happy to sit with friends and family over a meal, even if I cannot eat the food (due to my food allergies). For those of us with #foodallergies, food allergy safety is paramount in any eating experience. During my time studying abroad in Florence, Italy, I also learned that food can build bonds and that it’s worth figuring out how to enjoy food with others in the safest way possible. Check out episode #12 of the Food Sitch podcast to hear about the other places I lived in and how they shaped my relationship to food and, ultimately, myself. You can listen to the podcast episode wherever you get your podcasts. #spotify #applepodcasts #googlepodcast What travel destination offered you the safest and most delicious food options? Valentine's Day was a few weeks ago, but the topic of love is one we should address more often. When it comes to my field, health and wellness, quantitative factors like calories, blood pressure, etc. are emphasized while qualitative factors like our feelings are often ignored. I think both the quantitative and qualitative factors are equally important for living a healthy life. Feeling love (or loved) can boost our immune system, lower our heart rate and blood pressure, reduce aches and pains, fight off diseases and help us live longer. The question then becomes: How do we get more love in our lives? How do we make our love ❤️ tank full? During this month of love, think of 3 things: ♥️ What are some ways you can show more love to yourself? (Maybe a bubble bath or an afternoon of arts and crafts?) ♥️How can you show more love to others? (Volunteer, calm your mom more often?) ❤️In which ways do you need love? (Maybe more hugs, cuddle sessions, to be told 'I love you' more?) We're human after all - receiving love is part of our DNA. To kick start you answering these questions, check out my stories and see some Central Park benches that may help you answer these questions. Which Central Park bench resonates with you the most? Happy Monday! My last podcast episode was about real estate, wellness and home. Since then, I started to think about where I live, NYC, and how much this place means to me. It has positively transformed me, and there's no place else I'd rather be. Wherever you live - whether it be next to cornfields, in the countryside, next to the beach, or in the suburbs - I hope you love where you live just as much as I love NYC. Where you live can have a great impact on your wellness. Your connection to your place of residence can add a spring to your step and a jolt of energy. Find the place that brings you both opportunities and peace. Your wellness matters! Check out my stories where I've added pictures of NYC during a recent walk. Comment with where you live and what you like the most about it! (at Manhattan, New York) https://www.instagram.com/p/CLmQUnxp28J/?igshid=3qsb1qc0vuqr

“Home is where the heart is.” I think this saying has always true, but even more so given the current times. Creating a home that suits you best can be tricky if you have an autoimmune immune disease or food allergy. Check out the latest episode of the Food Sitch podcast where I speak with real estate agent Laura Milkowski @theldmteam as we speak about how to create a great home to boost your wellness, how to make smart real estate purchases and her experiences with an autoimmune disease called Hashimoto’s. ♥️ Valentine’s Day is over, but over the last few days, I have received some DMs asking me questions about dating, love and marriage with food allergies and autoimmune diseases. I am not the highest expert on this topic, but the one piece of advice I would give is to communicate effectively honestly and kindly with your partner. ♥️ In case you missed it, check out episode 10 of the Food Sitch podcast where love coach Stacey Orosco @stacyannorosco talks about how to find love and keep it going strong (!) in romantic relationships when dealing with an autoimmune disease or food allergy. Her discussion about the Strict 7, designed by love expert @christinecampbellpate , can really help you if you’re navigating the dating scene. ♥️👶In addition to dating, Stacey gives great advice for married couples who have children with autoimmune diseases and food allergies too. ♥️ Check out episode 10 of the Food Sitch podcast wherever you get your podcasts. #spotifypodcast #applepodcasts #googlepodcasts (at Podcast-ing) https://www.instagram.com/p/CLX-Mt_JZkS/?igshid=rxz7p0l0c66c

HI everyone! I'm back, back in the Instagram groove! After taking some time to move and unpack, I'm here to share and discuss health, wellness, autoimmune disease, food allergies and everything in between! In case you missed it, check out last week's episode of the Food Sitch podcast where I spoke with Monita Sun, founder of Happy Tummy Asia about her journey to create Asian food that caters to people with autoimmune diseases and food allergies. Her husband's experiences with both diseases led Monita reinvent Asian food while still keep its authenticity and yumminess.
