Coffee Queen
A/N: Shout out to @jakjacq for reminding this old woman how to internet and link posts. Thank you so much I really appreciate it, you’ve saved me. Anyone with feedback, comments, wanna just talk, drop me a message. I’m nice.
THIS IS PART 4.
PART 1 | PART 2 | PART 3 |
Day6/YoungK
Reader/YoungK fic
Author: actual-chaotic-mess
Prompt: I work as a barista in a coffee shop you frequent and I tried to make a leaf design on your coffee but it ended being a dick instead
Summary: Working in a coffee shop, Kang Younghyun often visits at the end of your shift. You try to draw a cute leaf on the top of his coffee one day, but it ends up looking a little off, and not at all what you planned. He likes it anyway.
Part 4.
The drive home had been interesting to say the least. Younghyun was a good driver, but he weaved through the traffic more and faster than you would have liked, you’d gripped onto the handle on the door so tight your knuckles were white and your hand was stiff when he pulled up outside your apartment building.
You expected him to wait in the car, watch you get into the building, except that is not what happened. He came around to your door and opened it. He insisted on walking you directly to your door, so he could be sure you definitely made it home safely. It was his responsibility he’d said, something, that again, had made you laugh. You were your own problem. You weren’t a child. You let him take you anyway, warning him to be quiet because the staircase echoed, he nodded. The pair of you trotted your way quietly up the six flights of stairs, before arriving at your apartment. You thanked him and put your key to the door.
It swung open and you looked on in shock as your parents stood in the gaping doorway, glancing between Younghyun and yourself. Your father’s brow creased and your mother gasped, covering her mouth. You knew your father had plenty to say, his face had started turning red. You held up a hand in an attempt to stop him before he started, but it was too late.
“So, this is what has kept you out so late?” Your father spat his demand. “This is where you go every single day? To be with this... boy?” He continued. Your mouth worked, attempting to make words, though only the occasional sound or squeak escaped your lips. Your mother was still frozen in her horrified state. You looked to her for help, to no avail. You didn’t know how to continue from this. You didn’t know how to explain that it wasn’t what he thought. Your father was a stubborn man, whatever he thought was happening is what it was, and no amount of arguing would tell him it wasn’t how it seemed.
“I’m sorry, Sir.” To your surprise, Kang Younghyun had folded himself in a ninety-degree angle. “I am in a band, we order coffee from your daughter at the end of her shift every time, she brings them to us. We asked her to stay for a while, time passed faster than we anticipated. I intended for her to be home a lot earlier than this.” His explanation was rational, but your fathers face turned purple. He was furious.
“What?” His tone had gone from demanding to sceptical and livid. “Listen, boy. My daughter works hard every day in that coffee shop. Every single day, what gives you the right to demand a delivery when the shop doesn’t even offer the service?” You sighed. Your mother had melted her stance and taken your father by the arm, trying to lead him inside. You pushed him backwards too, he continued to berate Younghyun, even though you had tried to explain that even though you’d stayed longer than planned, Younghyun had made sure you got home safely, even to the point of driving you home and walking you to your door.
He wasn’t having any of it. He didn’t care. You were a respectable young woman and didn’t need the likes of this hooligan having you out at all hours of the night. You attempted to usher your father into the apartment so that he wasn’t yelling in the hallway and disturbing the neighbours further, but he refused, he wasn’t done. You turned to Younghyun, who was accepting his fate, receiving his lecture as though he deserved it. Your mother eventually managed to pull your father back into the apartment and you stood in the doorway, looking at a sullen Younghyun.
“Sorry.” You both said at the same time, which caused you both to look at each other in shock and confusion. “Why are you sorry?” You asked in unison. You waved your hand at him to continue.
“For asking you to come to the practices, to bring us coffee at the end of your shift. For not realising the time and getting you home earlier tonight. I really didn’t know the hour.” He told you and you laughed. A sound you didn’t expect to seep from yourself, obviously, nor did he, which only made a smile stretch across your face and a frown to etch itself into his brow deeply. “Why are you laughing?” He almost demanded of you.
“I’m laughing because that’s outrageous. My father yelled at you for getting me home safely, that’s not a nice thing to do, I apologise to you on his behalf. You needn’t be sorry for letting me have a life outside of work and family.” You told him. You felt your mother’s hand on your shoulder. She was softer than your father, certainly more accepting of all kinds of things. She wasn’t as set in her ways as your father. You smiled at her and she reached for Younghyun’s hand, taking it in her own.
“I’m terribly sorry for my husband’s behaviour. He gets a little upset when it comes to our daughter. She’s his pride and joy, I’m sure you’ll understand should you have a daughter of your own.” She said patting the back of his hand with her other hand. “Perhaps, he would not have gotten so agitated had we met at a more... reasonable hour.” She added looking mildly thoughtful. It took you a moment to realise your mother thought he was a boy you were interested in, but when it clicked, your mouth began to form a protest, once again, but you were too slow, Younghyun was already bowing his head and saying he was sorry, yet again, to which you tilted your head in confusion.
“Really, Ma’am, I didn’t mean to keep her at the practice room so long. We - the boys and I - really enjoy your daughter’s company, we were just talking, about the plan for the band, some songs that someone had written. She’s really smart and she has good input on how we perceive things, it’s really helpful, and she’s really fun.” He told your mother, still bowing his head. Your mother rubbed the back of his hand a little before patting it again. She told him to go home now, that she was sorry again for her husband’s tirade. That he should give it a few days before he comes around again, and to do so at a respectable hour.
“Mother, he’s not going to be coming around again, he wasn’t staying today. He was dropping me off because it’s late,” You insisted, though she only rested her hand calmly on your shoulder. She said she understood. She was young once too. She didn’t mind. You are an adult now. You stared at her, deflated. How could your parents have it so wrong? It’s not like you were going to date Younghyun. You were friends. You weren’t even attracted to him... Were you?
Getting showered and ready for bed happened in a haze. You were too busy asking yourself questions. Did you like Younghyun? Of course, he was great. He was fun to be around, making you smile. He was sweet, kind and caring. He even brought you home in the car just because it was cold and late, took a lecture from your father for doing so. Of course, you liked him. That was very admirable behaviour. Perhaps the question was phrased wrong. Did you like Younghyun in a love interest kind of way? Excellent question. You didn’t think you did. Though, you realised you’d started to feel calmer and happier when you saw his face. The troubles of the day seemed irrelevant. He made you feel happy and comfortable and you really enjoyed his company. But did that mean you liked him? You weren’t sure.
You stood at the side of your bed, staring at it. It had reached four o’clock in the morning and you weren’t sure if it was even worth going to bed at this point. Still, you climbed in under the covers, and hugged your pillow, your head still reeling. You had the day off tomorrow, yet you’d forgotten to tell the boys. You yawned, loudly, and stretched out your limbs before curling in on yourself. There was only one thing for it. You’d have to pay more attention to how you felt.

Coffee Queen
A/N: THIS IS PART THREE. Parts 1 & 2 are on here. Again, I’m old, dumb and can’t remember how to link things on here. Day6/YoungK Reader/YoungK fic
Part 3.
After each of your shifts, Younghyun would collect you from work, buying coffees for his members and take you to their practice sessions. You had begun to hang around with them more and more often. To the point that you would even consider them...friends.
You’d learned their names and you could even say you knew a little about each of them. Sungjin didn’t like to be touched, but he was soft and sweet, always looking after the others. Jae, he was a skinny boy who people said looked like “Chicken Little”, and was a Twitter freak. Wonpil, he had a very gentle voice and he was kind as well, but he could sometimes come across a little weird. Dowoon, the youngest member, the bands’ drummer, he was a very shy person and it took a while before he would talk to you properly without feeling embarrassed or his ears turning red. This was still more common than you would like, but he would often be too shy to have an actual conversation with you.
It had become a routine. As soon as you finished work you would brew the bands’ coffees and head over to their practice room. Sometimes, they didn’t practice anything and would spend time just talking, or going over song lyrics, making changes to things here and there. Sometimes, they even asked you for your opinion on how it was flowing, or if a word sounded like it fit right.
Jae had become one of your closest friends of the band, he was the one you felt like you connected with most, other than Younghyun. You’d gotten closer with him too.
You’d decided at the end of your last shift that you didn’t want to stay too late with the band this time. You needed to get home, showered and have a good night’s sleep. Though, the night got away from you and when you glanced at the time on your watch you gasped quietly. It was one o’clock in the morning, and the band was still chattering excitedly with each other. You stood, stretching your arms in the air and yawning.
No one noticed that you’d moved, which was good. You thought it would be easy to slip away without any of them noticing, so you grabbed your coat from the seat behind you and started to put it on.
“Leaving so soon?” A voice asked. You were half in your coat, one arm in the air as you turned to your interrogator. You looked pointedly at the large clock on the wall, displaying the evidence that it wasn’t at all ‘so soon’ that you were leaving. “Fair point.” Younghyun responded, taking in your current coat predicament. “It’s late... And cold. I’ll take you.” He told you.
“Really, you don’t need to do that. I’ve walked home alone later than this before.” You informed him pulling your coat on properly and adjusting it.”Younghyun,” you hissed in a whisper, slightly whiny. “I work in a coffee shop, we have late nights sometimes with re-organizing the whole shop, I can walk myself home.” You told him still keeping a low tone. His face was more serious, a smile didn’t appear like it usually did. Younghyun collected his own coat and while striding towards the door called to his members.
“I’m taking our Coffee Queen home.” The look he gave you at the door halted your protests, the argument you had ready. Solemnly, you followed him out, the boys yelling their goodbyes. You called back to them, casting a slightly pleading look to Jae, in hopes he would see that you didn’t want to be taken home by Younghyun and that you were a grown ass person and could take yourself as you had done for many years. Jae did not assist your dilemma, he just smirked and turned away, causing you to internally groan.
The boys didn’t drive often, but they had a car that was accessible to them for if they wanted it. They were supposed to inform the management if they were taking it though, which Kang Younghyun did not do.
“I’m feeling a little rebellious.” The comment made you snort out a laugh. He’d asked you what was funny and you shook your head, simply dismissing the silly moment. Though, none of this could prepare you.

Summary: Working in a coffee shop, Kang Younghyun often visits at the end of your shift. You try to draw a cute leaf on the top of his coffee one day, but it ends up looking a little off, and not at all what you planned. He likes it anyway.
Part 2.
A few days passed and Younghyun had visited at the end of your shift every single one of them.  Once again, the bell rang as he entered the shop, smiling as openly as always. You prepared yourself to take his order. You let yourself smile freely as he approached. His bright demeanour had started to make you feel at ease when he came around. It was a little odd, the first time you felt the smile spread itself, you didn’t really understand, but he’d sat in the shop for a few hours, drinking a few different drinks. It gave you enough time to listen to what he was like. Be in his presence in a comfortable, informal setting. He was a very polite and respectful person, but he also spoke informally sometimes. You over heard him telling one of your co-workers that he’d been in Canada for his high-school years. So, some of his behaviours were a little Western, even though most of his life had been spent in Korea.
“What can I get for you today, Younghyun?” You smiled at him, a genuine smile that spread from what felt like ear to ear. He returned the smile and shook his head. You noticed he did that a lot. Shaking his head in dismissal of something you said. He nodded sometimes too, in agreement, or understanding. But when he was disagreeing, his head shook, side to side, usually causing his brown hair to flow softly and bounce a little at each side.
“Today, I’m here for you. What time do you finish?” He asked. You frowned at him, his question had taken you off guard and you didn’t know what to do with it. “Well, I do want five coffees, as well. But I’ve been instructed to bring you with me.” He added after seeing your expression. You told him this was your last order of the day, that you would be finished just as soon as you’d made his coffees. He reeled off his list of drinks, one being a cappuccino for himself. You nodded, tapping it into the till, and taking his payment.
Since he said he would drink his in the shop first before you leave, you decided this time that you would try to make a pattern on the top of his cappuccino. You attempted to design a leaf shape in his cup, making the coffee swirl with the cream.
Once finished, you set it down on the saucer and looked at it, to see your handywork. It was not how you had expected it to turn out. In fact, it was nowhere near what you wanted it to be. You cringed, and considered starting again. You turned, glancing at Younghyun, who was sat smiling at your back. You couldn’t keep him waiting longer, he was a customer, after all. Though, that said, since he was a customer, could you really serve this to him? After some serious deliberation, you hung your head and headed towards him, holding the cup bleakly in both of your hands.
You set the cup before him and sighed, almost unable to look up at him for a moment but you watched as he looked into the cup. Your face heated up, knowing he could see the disaster you presented to him. Younghyun looked up at you, then back to his cup, before finally return his gaze to yours. Your cheeks heated further, you knew you must be about the same shade as the red chair he had sat himself in. You folded yourself in half, bowing your apology.
“I’m so sorry. I got ambitious. It’s supposed to be a leaf. It looks a bit, uhh...” You trailed off, face getting hotter by the second. Younghyun grinned, mild shock touched your features, because a grin was the thing you least expected from Younghyun in this exact moment.
“It looks perfect.” He told you. You looked at him, confusion tugging at your expression. “I don’t care what it looks like now. A leaf, you say? I can see how it was supposed to be a leaf.” He smiled brightly at you. It was your turn to look at the cup and back to his face.
“You have got to be kidding me.”  You protested. He simply continues to smile, taking a sip from his phallus decorated beverage. He finished the entire cup, scooping the froth with a spoon as you looked on in disgust and horror. You swiftly took the empty cup from under him and shuffled as quickly as you could towards the sink without seeming rude. You scrubbed the cup until the squeak became a little unbearable and busied yourself with making the other four coffees.
You continued to watch the coffee machine as it brewed the drinks, almost refusing to look around at Younghyun. The shame was too intense at this point. As a barista, you should not have served that drink to a customer. Although, was this considered as a customer? It was technically during your shift, but he had come here to take you away at the end, considering this was also actually the end of your shift, you weren’t sure.
You could hear the other member of staff working that night chatting to him quietly as she cleaned the tables and swept the floor. The jobs you were supposed to be doing, but could not, due to being stuck making drinks. You considered making him another, for compensation. You wouldn’t lose much out of your wage for it. In the end, you brewed the four, and finally, after the deepest of breaths and the collection of your coat, you turned to Kang Younghyun, announcing that you were ready and you could leave.
As it had turned out, YoungK was his “stage name” and he was in a small undiscovered rock band, who hadn’t released any of their songs yet. The coffee was for the rest of his band. There were five members in total. He mentioned the names to you, but you could hardly remember them as you passed out their drinks. You had never really been good at names. Faces, you recognised, names on the other hand were like trying to find a needle in a haystack, you just couldn’t seem to pluck them out and put them to the face you recognised most of the time, so you tended to stick to honorifics and being tactfully polite.

Coffee Queen
Part 1.
The day had been long, and you were pouring another Half Fat Macchiato All Whip Extra Cream No Sugar for one of the last customers of the day. You sighed as you called out the almost illegible name scrawled in permanent marker on the paper take out cup, a name you barely remember. You do recall the drink disappearing from the counter and the door closing. Busying yourself for the last hour of your shift, you cleaned down the coffee machine and surrounding counters, lined up the cakes in the mini fridge and tidied the tea boxes, arranging them so that customers could see clearly the titles of the flavours.
The bell above the door jingled and you braced yourself, turning to deal with a customer you weren’t ready to serve as the day had drawn on longer than usual. The face was familiar to you, someone who came in often. He never ordered the same drink, always trying something new. A smile spread across his face as he greeted other staff. He never spoke impolitely to anyone, whether they be younger or older than him. He seemed respectful. Sometimes he had a friend or two with him, but usually he was alone. He was a very attractive person. You’d never really looked at him, you’d just had polite customer/service staff conversations with him, but he was a positive type of person. Bringing in the cheer for some of the staff. A few of the girls you worked with had a crush on him because he was ‘hot as heck, why doesn’t it affect you?’ You’d always shrug and say you didn’t really look for what someone’s face was like. Though the one time you did really look at his face, you agreed that he was a very attractive person, both inside and out, which was rare.
Regardless of the fact that you were feeling drained, you stood up straight and put on the best smile you possibly could.
“Hi,” you began, “What can I get for you?” You offer in the politest tone you can muster. His smile never faded as he continued to examine the board and tell you he would just be a moment longer. You nodded, and tidied around the till in front of you.
“Can I please get... a Magnificent Mint Mocha. With all the condiments. Along with a Strawberry Shortcake Shrimp, please?” His eyes dropped from the menu to meet yours, smile still stretched across his face. You hit the buttons on the screen. The shortcake didn’t actually have shrimp in it, it’s just when the owners were thinking of something that started with the same letter, shrimp was what they decided worked, so they designed the biscuit to be in a shrimp shape.
“Anything else, sir?” You offered him, still using your customer service voice. He shook his head and handed over his payment card. You took it and scanned it in the machine before handing it back. “Are you taking it away?” You asked him kindly. He shook his head.
“I’ll be sitting right there, where I can see your lovely face.” His smile widened as he winked playfully. This was a new development. He had never acted like that before. You frowned a little but then smiled, even so.
“I’ll bring it over to you once it’s ready.” You told him, turning to the freshly cleaned machinery, switching it ON to brew his selected drink. You plated up his shortcake biscuit and returned to check on the beverage. The machine hissed, whirred and spat its contents into the ‘pretty’ cup. Once it had finished, you collected both items from the counter and headed to the customers’ table. After you placed them in front of him, he thanked you. You nodded in response as he called out to you.
“There is one more thing you can get for me,” he stated. You stood, staring at him, awaiting his continuation. “Your name.” He finished. You smiled and pointed to your name tag. He smiled again. “I’m YoungK. But you can call me Younghyun.” He informed. You bowed a little. “Can I call you Coffee Queen?” He added.
“Pleasure to meet you, Younghyun. I’m not really a ‘queen’.” You answered him politely. Since you didn’t know his age, you bowed formally, just in case he was older. Though, regardless of age, it was the polite thing to do. Hearing his laugh ring around the coffee shop, you stood upright again, looking at him. One of the most striking things about this man’s face were his strong cheekbones and sharp nose.
“I would call you a ‘princess’ but I feel like that isn’t a strong enough word to match your power in the Kingdom of Coffee.” He told you, chuckling lightly. You supressed the urge to roll your eyes. It wasn’t often that people attempted to make light hearted banter, a few jokes here and there, but every so often, they would try. Always coffee related humour. It pained you, but you always gave your best fake laugh. This time though, you didn’t. You just let a small smile spread along your face.
“I still feel that it’s not an apt phrase, but if you wish to call me that, please, feel free.” You muttered. His head bobbed up and down as he nodded thoughtfully. “Is there anything else I can get for you?” You offered him. His head shook from side to side, hair flopping freely. You nodded your head and returned to your till.
