i am very much a farcille truther forever but it's my opinion that they would need to spend a few months apart post canon for it to work as a long term relationship. i think marcille's care and love for falin has unintentionally stifled her somewhat, and there's also marcille's tendency to infantilise falin. ik that falin expresses a desire to go adventuring post canon without laios or marcille with her because she wants to figure herself out without having them hovering over her. and i hope she does do that. i think it's a relationship that would need a few months to breathe and then get a fresh start given their history together

also controversial take but i like to headcanon that marcille doesn't even realise she's attracted to women during canon or is in denial about it. and that she only realises post-canon

i have this image in my head of falin arriving back home post canon after months or even years of adventuring........ and she smiles at marcille so confidently with her lil dragon fangs and hugs her tight and gives her some beautiful trinket she found in a faraway land. and she's probably sweaty and covered in mud at this point after being adventuring for so long but in that moment marcille doesn't care bc she realises she likes women and that she likes falin and her brain explodes. lol

i genuinely can't believe i'm going in to bat for a skinny rich boy on main but i refuse to walk past some of these rampantly incorrect toshiro takes i'm seeing. i think there ARE valid reasons to dislike him, i like him but i can completely understand why people don't. but if you're gonna dislike him at least dislike him for the right reasons/bc of stuff that actually exists in canon instead of just making things up to justify it

like the problem for me isn't that ppl dislike him, it's that ppl dislike him for the wrong reasons lol

not to be a hater but this is the most bizarre take i've ever seen (the original tweets i mean). like people are allowed to dislike toshiro but this person is just making up stuff that isn't even true about him???

i need to rant abt this rlly quick but i'm putting it below the cut bc this got Long

gonna address my issues with this in order based on where they are in the thread

1) toshiro isn't actually a lord, his father is but toshiro himself is just one of three potential successors. this isn't a big deal just a nitpick

2) falin is not a princess (or at least she isn't when toshiro falls in love with her) and she is not remotely even like a princess. she's a weird girl who loves bugs and shuro KNOWS this and he loves her for THAT. it's true that he finds her physically attractive but he SPECIFICALLY falls in love with her because he sees her being kind and gentle to a caterpillar even though most people would kill it. her unconventionality is the reason why he falls in love with her. he doesn't love her because she's a white princess he falls in love with her because she is compassionate and thoughtful and cares for things that others would be afraid of. it's her kindness that made him fall for her, not just her looks

3) female toshiro is depicted as being scared of laios and tearfully confiding to the other girls about him because he (presumably unintentionally) did something which made her uncomfortable and embarrassed. she's blushing because she's embarrassed. and the others look blatantly horrified with thought bubbles of laios looking scary above their heads. nothing about that suggests to me that she is in love with laios, it's the opposite if anything. laios himself even says that the situation would be "even worse" if toshiro was a girl. the whole image just screams "girl is upset because her male friend did something pervy on accident and she's telling her female friends about it while they comfort her and get upset as well on her behalf". it does not read as her being in love with him in any way idk where the hell ppl are getting that idea from

4) laios does not remotely fit the knight in shining armour stereotype. if anything he's a subversion of the trope. he happens to wear armour but he ISN'T EVEN A KNIGHT LOL this is a pet piece of mine bc why do ppl call him a knight when "knight" is a description of a specific type of professional warrior employed by royalty and laios is not that. he's just a guy who wears armour. a knight in shining armour also refers to the stereotypical idea of a male "hero" who goes out of his way to dramatically save people and do good deeds, whereas laios is basically only doing what he's doing to save his sister but necessarily doesn't go out of his way to be a saviour for anyone else or commit impressive heroic deeds. like i said, if anything he's a subversion of the trope

5) once again i don't see how falin is anything like a princess either. she's weird and loves bugs and ghosts and isn't afraid of getting dirty and also her and laios were literally homeless for a while due to lack of money. nothing about her suggests "princess" to me. she isn't delicate either, she's been shown holding her own in a fight multiple times and bashing people with blunt force inflicting weapons etc lol

6) i don't think toshiro ever describes laios as childish? this is another nitpick but like. he never said that. he's mad at him for being "oblivious" and for seeming flippant about a serious situation, but i don't think he ever says he's childish

7) i don't think there's any canon evidence nor precedent set by his character you could possible draw on to suggest that toshiro would abuse falin if they were married. i can imagine that he might be a bit emotionally distant or repressed at times but i don't think he'd treat her badly on purpose in any way

basically this whole post is just shit this person made up lol. like i said it's ok to dislike toshiro but you don't need to just make up random stuff about it to try and back up your point

twitter is such a shit show we’re getting takes like “shuro has a white supremacist white girl fetish and would abuse falin if they ever got married because he hates autism and is just ignoring it in her for now” and I’m supposed to nod and take it seriously

this is a random comparison lol but something about chimera falin reminds me of moder from the ritual

the most obvious similarity is that they're both human (or at least human-like) torsos stuck on top of completely animalistic quadraped bodies. but i think the main thing that made this similarity click in my brain was how both characters use their hands, and the contrast between their hands and their bodies.

in both the ritual and dunmeshi, right before killing someone, both moder and falin are able to touch that person with a kind of gentleness with their human hands

idk i think there's something inherently uncanny about the ideal of a 6+ legged mammal that can manipulate objects with the dexterity of a human despite being very not human. i'm not sure how to explain it other than that there's a visceral horror to both characters, in that your brain can't really categories them in the way that it would a normal animal. they're Something Else.

both falin and moder seem like brutal mindless animals at points, but then they'll gently touch or hold something and you can tell there's an intelligence there too. even during the fight with falin i feel like you're almost lured into a false sense of security of thinking about her like she's just a monster, but then her human hands come into frame and it's that weird uncanny unexpected feeling that really makes it work.

tldr i think weird monster womanbeasts are pretty awesome

that weird disproportionate look to her is very intentional imo, not to spoil anything for the manga too much but the fact that her upper half is completely out of proportion with her bottom half gets somewhat directly addressed/becomes a plot point later

as cool as Dragon Falin is, I still think her upper body is really weirdly out of proportion with the dragon parts

might be why I never was into centaur creatures

still neat tho

i think the dunmeshi english dub is pretty decent but i have a few Thoughts

1) as much as i love prozd, i feel like an older man's voice would have suited senshi better (like his va in the japanese version)

2) some of the dialogue is funny, but it's very 2020s and they've added in some jokes/lines that are way different to the original, and i feel like it's gonna age about as well as "LOL SO RANDOM XD" humour did (as in not well at all). the line where chilchuck calls laios cringe especially grates on me considering that's not even close to the sentiment of what he was saying originally

3) i think it would have been cool if toshiro could've been voice acted by someone who was a native japanese speaker with english as a second language too. maybe the same for kabru, where he could be voice acted by someone who spoke arabic as their first language or something. and, controversial idea i know, but laios and falin could have european accents although idk exactly from where........... ik this is nitpicky and silly but i just get a bit sick of every character having a generic american accent can't we get some variation in there. canonically all of the characters are from different places so it doesn't rlly make sense for them to all sound exactly the same

#in my head i always imagined toshiro and kabru having accents that weren't Generic American Voice so i'm kinda sad
