The Iranian Regime is going to execute rapper Toomaj Salehi for supporting protests of Jina Amini’s murder by the regime in his songs.
Iranian activist Elica Le Bon says, “Iranians in the diaspora picked up on the fact that the regime tends not to execute people who become known to the international community. We have seen many examples of prisoners that were either released on bail or had their sentences commuted through our “say their names to save their lives” campaign on social media, using hashtags to garner attention for their causes, and even before social media existed, through getting the stories of political prisoners to international media outlets. Once reported on, and once the eyes shift to the regime and the reality of its pending brutality, realizing that the action is not worth the repercussions, we have seen them back down and not execute. For that reason, this is part of an urgent campaign for readers to talk about Toomaj as much as you can, using the hashtag #FreeToomaj or #ToomajSalehi. Every comment makes a difference, and if we were wrong, what did we lose by trying?”

By the way, I'm pretty sure I have the ultimate tool set for playing games about navigating grid-based dungeons:
Tumblr media
On the left we have a left-handed controller intended for use in conjunction with a mouse - it comes from the PC release of Gundam Online, a game I have never played or even seen played. It is maybe the most specific and cool gift I have ever received. It's connected to a Steam Deck that is running the game I'm playing on one monitor.
On the right we have the Zelotes C-18 vertical mouse. It has an analog stick. I own three of these, because I have never seen another mouse with an analog stick on it. As far as mice go, it is kind of velvety and slippery, so it needs to be gripped tighter than other mice. I addressed this issue by carving a grid into using a craft knife - that's what the discoloration on the side is. It is connected to my PC.
With the controller in my left hand, I do all the actual game stuff. With the mouse in my right hand, I manually map and annotate the dungeon using Grid Cartographer. Thanks to the mouse's remappable analog stick, I can input the same movements I'm inputting on the controller in order to keep Grid Cartographer's position-marking avatar accurate. And unlike with auto-maps or most maps where you can make annotations, I have an extreme degree of freedom in how detailed or stylized my map is. So even when I'm playing a game that has an auto-map, there's a good chance this is getting busted out unless that auto-map is exceptional.
I am confident this is probably the most sicko anyone has ever been about external software solutions to mapping dungeon crawlers.

After finally managing to fall in love with Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen*, and starting up a game of The Dark Spire because I've been reading Delicious In Dungeon**, I've discovered a fundamental flaw with all medieval European fantasy RPGs produced outside of Japan.
They've got no sense of fucking style.
Like, you play your Dragon Ages, and battles sound like this:
youtube
Perfectly acceptable, no complaints about the execution, and thematically appropriate, but every single medieval European RPG sounds like this.
What does Dragon's Dogma (either originally or with the power of restorative mods) hit you with when you boot it up? Into Free ~Dangan~
youtube
The rest of the music isn't that much different from Dragon Age's music, but it sets a tone that differentiates it. It says, expect the unexpected.
And I think The Dark Spire's battle music for fighting 2 to 4 above-average size bats speaks for itself.
youtube
Goddamn, The Dark Spire kicks ass.
In conclusion, medieval European fantasy RPGs should have soundtracks for sickos.
*Turns out the trick was that I needed to play the class that absolutely everyone told me was the worst one in the game: Warrior.
**I promise this makes sense, I promise. If you've seen Delicious In Dungeon and you've played any Wizardry-ass dungeon crawler, you know Ryoko Kui is positively submerged in them.

That’s Louis Rossman, a repair technician and YouTuber, who went viral recently for railing against Apple. Apple purposely charges a lot for repairs and you either have to pay up or buy a new device. That’s because Apple withholds necessary tools and information from outside repair shops. And to think, we were just so close to change.

As a 19-year-old sophomore at Stanford, Elizabeth Holmes decided to transform diagnostic medicine so she dropped out of college and used her tuition money to start her own company, Theranos. Ten years later, Holmes, pictured here holding a micro-vial, is on the cutting edge of medical technology — her new blood testing method allows hundreds of tests to be run using only a few drops of blood. And, Holmes’ methods are cheaper, faster, more accurate, and less invasive than conventional methods which often require a separate vial of blood for every test. As Holmes told Wired.com earlier this year, “I started this company because I wanted to spend my life changing our health care system. When someone you love gets really sick, most of the time when you find out, it’s too late to be able to do something about it. It’s heartbreaking… We wanted to make actionable health information accessible to people everywhere at the time it matters most. That means two things: being able to detect conditions in time to do something about them and providing access to information that can empower people to improve their lives.”
