The library was small and unassuming, not quite what the wolf was expecting but she supposed it would have to do. In all likelihood there was something within these four walls to sate her, sharp eyes moved about the rows before she happened across an unfortunate looking individual reshelving books. She glossed over several copies of the Iliad and turned up her nose at the staff recommendations section. “Do you have any other suggestions?” Kore found herself asking, desperately hoping that this specific employee hadn’t put this little display together.

As the werewolf wandered into his happy domain, Gabriel had to stop himself from admiring the ring on his finger and actually pay attention to her. He was still debating the name change, but he figured that he would give in to the nice idea sooner rather than later. He’d given up on shelving anymore books, looking at his next victim and her sour mood. What kind of memories would she have? He wanted to find out. “Depends on your language. Have books in English, most in Greek, a few in Spanish, and if you’re lucky – some really spicy French romance novels.”

“I swear it’s easier to get a gun than it is to file a marriage license.” Petrichor sighed as they left the courthouse and walked the streets of the city together, the phoenix’s arm loose around Gabriel’s waist. It was unseasonably cold, particularly for Greece, but the phoenix didn’t think anything of it. As it turned out married life was very much like their life together dating, except now Petrichor had given the other unbridled access to all of his accounts. “So what’s first -?  I know it isn’t very Greek, but I’ve gone thousands of years without carving a pumpkin. Feels like a crime if I don’t start now.”

Gabriel pushed his hands into his pockets, leaning against Petrichor as they walked. He liked the new marriage license they’d received, something relatively normal to their not so normal life. It would be easy enough to get more in the future if they ever needed to, but this was nice since he had full access to all of Petrichor assets. “Pumpkin carving? Why, so you can fit your dick into another hole? I have two at home you can do that with,” he grinned, though he pulled them towards the nearest grocery store anyway. “I’ll treat you to whatever pumpkin you want.”

The librarian was attractive, but Jakob didn’t really like or care for his style. Still, what was a kiss? He’d put his lips in plenty of worse places. “Alright, fine. But if you’re bullshitting me there’s going to be hell to pay.” Jakob said instead before he stepped forward, it was awkward, and he didn’t know how to start this or finish it. So instead he just went for it, his lips met Gabriel’s, what he wasn’t expecting was for how magnetic it felt. Gabriel’s lips were surprisingly soft, responsive, and when he pulled away after a pair of heartbeats too long it was only because he remembered it was because he was here for a reason. Jakob cleared his throat and took a necessary step back, “Right. Uh-” Jakob wasn’t an idiot, but he felt like one now. “You- so what do you know?’

Gabriel was getting bored with how wishy washy this witch was, until finally he leaned in. There was no bullshitting about it, and he waited for Jakob to step forward before he pressed his mouth against the others. The first thing he noticed was the lack of spark the other’s soul had. It was nothing like Petrichor’s, though it had a hint of his new husband, and was nothing like any element he’d ever known. He gave a small smile when Jakob pulled away, putting the book back in his hands onto the shelf. Before the witch could protest, he pulled another one out instead, focused more on non physical “elements.” Gabriel tapped the cover after the witch took it, “Elements are more than just the four you mentioned. They can be spiritual, maybe physical, but nature based, too. This might have your answer.” He was going to tell Petrichor what he felt, especially since this was the first time he’d noticed someone like this.

Nothing was written in stone between him and Adam, so harmless, right? “You can’t be serious.” Jakob said instead, not saying no. He was blushing, a fact that maybe betrayed him a bit. The witch eyed the book, “What do you know?”

Gabriel smiled, though his grip on the book didn’t lessen. It would maybe answer this witch’s questions, but only after the incubus understood what actually he was looking for. Maybe this one’s different magic was the answer. “I am serious. You’re handsome, and I can’t help myself.” That didn’t necessarily mean those two things went hand in hand, but Gabriel didn’t bat an eyelash. “So what’s it gonna be? Do you want to find out?”

“I din think I have much of a fucking choice at this point.” Gabriel had said he couldn’t be involved so he wouldn’t give him the whole story. He was sure the incubus had enough to worry about and he shoots an apologetic look in his direction as he set the book down on one of the few tables and begins flicking through the pages. Gabriel isn’t wrong, the text is…It’s definitely Greek of some sort, but he has not a damn clue what any of it could mean. Thankfully he has not one, but two of ‘those rifts’ at home who hopefully have an idea. Jamie flips a couple more pages and takes his phone out, pulls out his camera app and takes a couple of pictures. Names can be made out a bit though, he thinks at least. “I’m nae tae be directly involved. Tae easy for the bastart tae compel me, but this is something.” To keep him from feeling useless at least. “I willnae get ye intae it. Could make ye forget all this even, if ye want.”

Gabriel stayed relatively silent as Jamie flipped through the books, his gaze landing on Linear B. The only translated portion. He recognized names as well, but no one had been able to match them up to Linear A. Perhaps because no immortal from that time existed. Looking back at Jamie, he chuckled, “Why, so I can have a blissful twenty-four hours of forgetting I helped you?” He rose an eyebrow, shaking his head. “I’ve had orgies last longer than that, Jamie. I’ll survive. Just don’t tell anyone I let you see this book. You can find Linear A script pictures online, this one...this one is different.”

Gabriel, once champion of wicked deeds and revelry, had grown boring and settled down. “You’re a house wife,” the manticore noted, before something else he had said piqued her interest. “What memories?”

Gabriel couldn’t help his smile, though her words didn’t cause him any stress. She could think what she wanted, but he would wait around and see where life took her, as well. “Well, you’ll learn how to turn them into both. Plus, if he ever desired anyone else, I’d cut off his dick.” The incubus smirked as he caught her attention with that, “Almost better than sex, love. Want me to show you?”

Gabriel huffed out a laugh, going easily when they reversed positions. He looked up at the phoenix now, his hands sliding up the other’s arms. The feeling of his soulmate was enough to get the incubus excited for the rest of eternity together. He kept his curse, and he got to still plan on lifetimes with Petrichor. Nothing would tear them apart again, and definitely not death. He pulled the phoenix down to kiss him, and he fucked one more lifetime out of him.

He knew it would be exciting, but the nerves were a bit much for the incubus. After all, it wasn’t like he’d married anyone else in his life. Gabriel had Penelope and Kaan there, and that was enough to make him relax as much as he could. The island of Skopelos was everything he wanted it to be and more. The vows were heavy handed perhaps for someone like him, but there were few people he’d allow to see him in such a way. A soul knew its other half by sight alone, and that’s how it had been for Gabriel, anyway. Perhaps as a human, he hadn’t known what to look for. Soft blue eyes, kind features, that’d been enough for a soldier to trust in a stranger. It had felt like losing air when Petrichor had left, and he knew he could breathe once more when reunited. Even the past year had done little to quell the incubus’ love for the phoenix, despite the good and the bad, and the murderous intent against others, they were at this place, together. And Gabriel had zero plans to let anyone get between them, even this idea of starting the end of another world. And as he pulled Petrichor in by the lapels of his suit, he sealed that promise with an I do and a kiss.

Too many years Petrichor had spent alone, tasked with protecting the world all the while believing himself above it. It wasn’t enough to fall in love, because anyone could do that. He’d been chosen by Eos, by Artemis, and to him this meant sacrifice. Putting himself last and doing whatever was necessary to save even the undeserving. The phoenix had known love once, thousands of years prior when he was young and the world was still new to him. Gabriel was something else entirely, another mortal, though one who’d been found out by immortality thanks to the phoenix’s touch. It had taken losing himself entirely to find himself in the incubus he’d left behind so many centuries prior, while Gabriel’s vows were laid on thick, Petrichor’s were characteristically sappy. He owed the other man a great debt, because even when he was at his worst - hated by his sister, despised by the phoenixes for wishing to tear down the veil. Gabriel was still there, he was always there. Consistent, witty, charming. It would be them always, eternally, and for the first time in over a thousand years Petrichor found himself looking forward to the future. To the next day and the day after, because each morning he awoke it was to Gabriel next to him. Petrichor’s lips pressed against Gabriel’s, his hand curved around the back of the man’s neck and he promised him just that: forever.

It wasn’t deciphered. Jamie actually blinks and looks from Gabriel to the ceiling and the sigh he lets out is potentially what is left of his soul leaving his body. A fury could help and he could extend an olive branch to Sofia for both of his partner’s sake and yet he is trying to keep as lowkey as possible. “Anyone else? Kind of lacking in the fury department. If it’s jus’ really old, I have someone for that.” If not either significant other, they could point him to someone else. It was the kind of behind the scenes work that could do some good. Opening the book that was thrust into his hands, he’s blinking again at the page and then up at Gabriel and the smile he offers is nothing short of grim. “Can never get enough of hearing aboot her, I suppose.”

Gabriel rose an eyebrow, though he wasn’t sure if being old helped. “Maybe, depending on their region. This is Mycenaean. It’s a script. Meaning, someone would have to be from Crete, or...ancient Crete, or at least the coast of Greece at the time. Maybe they spoke it, if you’re lucky. Furies might be able to read it, or one of those rifts that are running around, they might know if they’re from there. But – attacking Hektor means attacking Persephone. Are you sure you’re willing to do that?”

Petrichor flipped Gabriel over, maneuvering him now so that he could be on top, splaying the incubus’ legs around his waist. Their connection drew his soul, warm and free from the depths of his essence as it slowly but continuously filled the other. Despite Gabriel’s taint he was always warm, Petrichor could see the parts of himself that sustained the other and he relished in it. “Call it what you want,” the phoenix replied, distracted by the responsive feel of Gabriel’s skin, pale skin pressed beneath warm hands- soft lips that maneuvered expertly against his own. “ but I still have lifetimes left in me.”

“Oh I know, maters and paters everywhere won’t let me forget it.” While it was true that Gabriel could talk about just anyone’s ear off, Petrichor liked it. There was never much silence between them, something the phoenix had only discovered once they’d gotten together that that was a thing the stoic sorely needed. “I try not to think about it, makes me feel like I’m some sort of accomplice in a longcon of yours.” He leaned forward and pressed his lips to the other’s chest, his hands wandered to the small of Gabriel’s back. “I don’t need it, I already have everything I could ever want.”

Gabriel laughed, wrinkling his nose, “You are an accomplice. Fraud, embezzlement, what else should I call it?” Luckily for everyone else, he was out of the soul stealing business. Now, he just liked to collect memories. But he’d save that for the honeymoon, they could have fun with how many weird ones he’d collected. It was a ridiculous sentiment, and Gabriel wouldn’t accept such a touching thing to say if it had been from anyone but Petrichor. The phoenix’s lips seemed to hold fire, setting Gabriel’s nerves alight as they brushed against his skin. “Fuck, how do you always know what to say?” he sighed, putting his hands on either side of Petrichor’s face so he could kiss him again, “Think you have another round in you or are you going to burst into flames at the altar?”

You do pour a nice glass of wine.” The phoenix offered, “In case you were thinking of a career change.” Petrichor couldn’t wait to see this ceremony through, to finally be done with the planning and the date changing and the guest list. There was none of that now, just them and a few people who were close to their heart. Family. “You do have me to thank for that, I saw your collection of scratch tickets.”

“That’s a possibility. Everyone usually wants me,” he grinned, rolling his eyes a little at the though. “You know I’d be a terrible servant. I talk too much.” Gabriel pressed another kiss against the phoenix’s neck, huffing out a breath, “Have you seen how much money I’ve won? Just in case I needed to buy more things, I have all those scratchers. I could try the lottery – but I think this is much more subtle. Too bad you don’t have your own luck.”

Eloping wasn’t something that Petrichor ever saw himself doing, not with Gabriel, not with anyone. And yet here they were in a hotel on Skopelos the morning of what was to be their big day. It took some work but they’d found someone to officiate, Petrichor’s siblings were coming to the island and apparently Penelope and Kaan were set to be there as well. “Isn’t it bad luck to see each other the day of our wedding?” Petrichor mused as the incubus straddled his waist, warm hands rested idly on Gabriel’s hips as the warm light of the early morning spilled through the bay window. They could stay here awhile, their own paradise away from the darkness and chaos of Corinth Bay.

Despite their many years of life, Gabriel could say this was at least a first. It would be his first and only, and there was something funny about it all. He had already joked that he couldn’t wear white or he’d be stricken down where he stood if he went outside. Straddling the phoenix, Gabriel smiled, “Well, you’re supposed to be marrying a virgin, too. I could always send a prayer up to Zeus, ask to be re-hymenated. I’ll still wear white, push my luck.” Leaning down, he pressed a kiss to the other’s lips, “Good thing I’m really lucky, though.”

The phoenix never cared for any of that, all that mattered to him was what was going to come after. Their life together. “Lets go, right now.” The phoenix breezed, “We’ll find someone to marry us on Skopelos, I don’t care about anything else.”

The phoenix was serious, and it wasn’t like the incubus could lie and say he wanted to wait. “Really?” He had never wanted a large ceremony anyway, and the only people he’d invited were Penelope and Kaan – they could come with. Including the other original shifters, he supposed. “Then let’s go. I’ll tell Penelope – and we can go.”

“Understandable.” He couldn’t blame Gabriel for not wanting to be involved, he couldn’t blame anyone. Jamie looks from the incubus to the keys and his brow furrows. It’s not a strong suit of his, sitting still and researching, but he’s not quite sure what he expected, showing up to a place that was built for that kind of thing. It made sense, with the supernatural population in the area, how old Corinth was, that there’d be some sort of archive. Ideally, the Vidalis library would be the place to really find something, but he wasn’t about to go poking around a coven of witches. “Any idea what I’m looking for? I know his history, din think that’s gonnae do much.” Well, he knew what he’d been told, it might not be a bad idea to run through the story on paper.

Sighing, Gabriel should’ve known Jamie would ask incessant questions before letting him go. The incubus mumbled something to himself about how he was going to give himself a raise before he closed the door behind the two of them. Picking up another book, he pushed it towards Jamie, “This is about Linear A. I would bet that the answer you’re looking for is here. Now, here’s the fuckin’ catch, it isn’t deciphered. Maybe if you found a fury, they could figure it out for you, but it’s not a spoken language, it’s more of a...script. I’m not sure if it’ll give you words specifically about Hektor, but, Persephone is mentioned on the Linear B tablets.”

Way too many syllables.” Petrichor mused, his arms folded comfortably around the other as he pulled him closer. It was not hard to guess the other’s feelings towards his surname but the original wouldn’t ever force anything on him. It was an offer, “And yeah, I want you to. If it needs to be said. You’re going to be my husband after all. Can’t have you getting mixed up for any old Vidalis or something.”

For someone who had the same name for over a thousand years, he could understand it. Petrichor had left his original name behind years ago, but he wasn’t going to say much else about it. Gabriel leaned forward, his fingers trailing down the phoenix’s back, “Fuck, you’re right.” He grinned, claiming Petrichor’s mouth in a hard kiss before he pulled away, “When are we doing this thing? How much longer you want me to wait?”

“Call me a witch nerd.” Jakob offered sheepishly, he had to remind himself that he had a boyfriend, or a something anyways. Someone that the witch was serious about anyways. Henry didn’t ring any bells, but if he was a teacher of occult studies here in Corinth then he was maybe bound to have some kind of clue. Though how much Jakob could actually reveal to him was… Well, unclear. “He works at the University? Yeah, maybe I’ll track him down. Does he got a last name?”

Gabriel moved a little closer, curiosity winning over anything else, “What if I said...I could tell you more for a kiss?” The incubus pulled another book from the shelf, but he held this one hostage against his chest.
