tfw your boyfriend’s best friend is also that one guy who constantly hits on him
(aka a reimagination of that scene in 3x08 where Castus shares his fire wood with Nasir and Agron is a grumpy fuck while helping Laeta with her tent) ____________________________________ The Sparty Dogs are back! Castus is an AmStaff, Nasir is a Mittelspitz. Agron is a German Mastiff and Laeta a Toy Poodle 💕

So Castus.
I can’t help but be completely charmed by him and in this episode I was basically just like “CASTUS PLEASE” every time he popped up.
I didn’t expect him to get left behind, I had expected him to make a choice to stay. But maybe that actual choice is coming. Or maybe he was left behind purposefully because he would object to betraying the rebels. It’s hard to know what we were supposed to make of that storyline. What is obvious is that his crush on Nasir is very real and very well known (but not reciprocated). Because Heracleo knows about it so presumably Castus has been moaning like crazy about it and probably annoying all the pirates around him.
We never really saw Castus ridiculously drunk before this episode. We saw him flirting but seemingly not really drunk but drinking and we saw him gambling but very much again not really drunk but drinking. Here we see him absolutely lights out, no one is home, binge drinking through the night. All to forget about Nasir because it’s exactly what Heracleo says to do. Drink in aid of forgetting this dude you won’t get to get with. So he does. My guess is, it doesn’t work.
I want to talk more about how Nasir makes men go mad CANONICALLY. Just by fucking being NASIR. Just by having his FACE and his sweet smile and general badassery. Because this is the SECOND DUDE who is acting totally irrational just by having feelings for Nasir.
I do fully expect Castus to become a bigger part of the rebellion because I feel like he’s supposed to be the historical figure of Castus, albeit with a skewed biography as with most of the characters on this show. We see him fighting alongside both Agron and Nasir (literally, standing next to Agron). Perhaps we can expect them to finally realize their common ground of loving Nasir, if Nasir was finally able to break through to Agron? I want to think that Castus will help rescue Agron still, just by reason of helping Nasir. Because we found out the most important thing in this episode, which is that he is totally into him.
But I want to see how he gets there. I want to see if he becomes trusted in the rebels, despite the piracy. Heracleo does say they will come back for him, but will they? It’s hard to tell with the pirates and it’s hard to figure out what part Castus played in any of this. I guess we’ll just see. I’m interested to see what other people are thinking about this particular mystery.
Perhaps they will finally join forces to create that Team Nasir fanclub? Agron as President, Castus as Vice President and Spartacus as the Treasurer?

Welcome to the PIRATE DUCK GIVEAWAY!
brought to you by yours truly, the Ducky Captain (as I have been dubbed), and member of the illustrious Castus Crew. I have in my possession several rubber ducks that happen to resemble pirates—as you can see from the above photo, they don’t really swim well, but hey, you can throw them in the water whenever you want to get a feel for Castus in a bar, or Duro whenever he fails at something! If this amuses you, read on for
RULES:
You must reblog this photoset once in order to be in the running.
There will be five winners, each of whom will receive one duck.
Winners may express a preference for style of duck; however, if conflicts arise, I will make the final decision.
You must reblog by MONDAY, MARCH 11th at 11:59 PM, EST. I know this is early, but we want to make sure that all ducks are delivered with maximum possible time to enjoy them before Castus’s inevitable demise.
Winners will be announced Tuesday, March 12th on this blog.
PRIZES:
One rubber duck
One letter of welcoming to the Crew/Ship, because the store was out of small manila envelopes and I feel dumb using this huge-ass packages for a two-inch duck.
BONUM FORTUNAM

A few words on composite characters (or: Castus and the very very bad case of Demoted to Extra)
So hey, remember that time I said Agron is a fictional stand-in for Castus? And then Castus was confirmed and I was super excited because (a) I read this novel about Sparty’s rebellion once and he was my favourite; (b) he was confirmed via a picture of Blessing lying naked in a bathtub; and © I thought this is it, this means Agron’s chances of survival have improved astronomically.
Yeah. Thing is. Now that Castus has joined the show, I am even more convinced that Agron is his fictional stand-in. Here’s how:
Historically Castus was one of the four prominent members of the slave rebellion, along with Oenomaus, Gannicus and Crixus. Note the distinct lack of Agron in the picture
HOWEVER. For the past 1.5 seasons, it’s Agron who pretty much established himself as Sparty’s right hand man (arguably at points, but you get the general idea.) Note that Castus was nowhere to be seen until 4 episodes ago
Agron has been around for 26 episodes. Castus has been around for 4. He is not only an outsider to the rebellion, but a lot of people still probably associate him with the Cilicians who betrayed them.
Ergo they are not likely to even consider him as a figure of authority. Agron himself might not be viewed as a figure of authority in the same way as Crixus, for instance, but he’s proven that he can, despite tendencies to the contrary, make level-headed decisions and get people to follow him.
I love Castus, but if we’re being 100% honest here, so much of characterization thus far consists of him looking sort of menacing while Nasir is angry at people on his behalf.
So. On a purely functional level, Agron is history!Castus. If you want four leaders of the rebellion, he’s your fourth (tbh Oenomaus never got to be a rebel leader in the full sense of the word, but he was a very well established character in a way that Castus isn’t.)
Castus doesn’t have time to become history!Castus at this point. There are four episodes left, and even if those focused mostly on him, there is no way that he can get to the level of a rebel general without some massive, massive ass-pull.
What I find interesting though is how Castus has from the beginning been so closely entangled with Agron (well, with Nasir really, but you get my point) who is actually the character he was supposed to be instead.
Also, I don’t know if Castus coming into the picture automatically improves Agron’s chances of survival. We know that Castus is going to die by the end of the rebellion, but at this point I’m not sure we’re talking about Castus Castus or history!Castus, i.e., Agron.
Does this make sense? Yes? No? Is Castus/Nasir an acceptable resolution in case Agron actually dies? Will I end up in the fandom equivalent of the scorpion pit for thinking it is?
Stay tuned.

I love how Castus is getting hate for knowing about the pirates plan to betray Spartacus when even HERACLEO didn’t know he was doing it until he was out at sea and got a better offer. You know what Castus was doing at the time? Killing his liver and probably singing “Castus the Magic Dragon” in his poor, drunk head (which he then slammed down into a table after seeing shapes on a ceiling or some shit. I think he saw Rome’s version of the Green Fairy).
And after he finishes puking on the sidewalk and getting thrown out of the The Hangover IV: Ancient Rome, he probably sees some dead bodies in the streets, he probably goes towards the docks b/c HEY BOATS. Except there is one boat there and it IS MANNED BY THE DEAD and holy shit there are Romans about. So he fights; with Nasir AND LUGO. And when he’s taken prisoner b/c Agron’s kind of pissed (understandable b/c he JUST found out the pirates betrayed them), he doesn’t fight about be taking prisoner. He doesn’t have a happy shiny smiley face about it, but he goes without starting even more shit.
Just, ugh, stop making Castus out to be some evil overlord when you have LEGIT evil overlords on the show who are playing dice with much more important things.

As detailed on Twitter I require the following fics:
1. I really really want a fic about Castus and Nasir. Not a romantic fic but a pining one-sided romantic epic friendship fic. From Castus’ POV and why Castus is drawn to Nasir and what his life was like before as a pirate and them bonding over presumably not remembering their family but making a new family.
2. I want a fic where Castus & Agron are forced to work together & end up spending the whole time complaining about how Nasir drives them mad and how pretty his hair is and how hilarious it is he has a horse stalking him around the camp harassing him for treats and pets
3. I want a fic where Nasir grew up as a pirate with Castus and then Nasir meets Agron and falls reluctantly in love with him and the cause and Castus joins the rebels to make sure Nasir is okay and ends up as a general to Spartacus truly believing and dying for the cause and finding a world outside of what he knew.
Basically I JUST NEED A LOT OF WORDS ABOUT 1. CASTUS AND 2. HOW WONDERFUL NASIR IS. THESE SEEM LIKE GREAT TASTES THAT TASTE GREAT TOGETHER.

Fic: Four Times Castus was Sort of Married and that One Time He Definitely Wasn’t
Like it says above. Spoilers for later parts of the All the Difference ‘verse.
here on AO3
I should caution this will make zero sense to people who haven’t read this ‘verse and heard me ramble about it, but there are enough hints in Yet Each Man so far that hopefully you can…see where the ocean currents are going?
