REPOST
Just FYI, I’m going to be deactivating the @fyeahcastuscrew blog in a week, if anybody’s still actually perusing it for content! It hasn’t been active for six years and I’ve got too many sideblogs on my account.
The Castus tag is still mostly full of cactus photos, although the virulently anti-Castus stuff seems to have slowed, so I want to archive the posts. Over the next few days I’m going to reblog everything on it to this account, which is also pretty inactive but which will be deactivated over my dead body. It will be under the “castus” tag, and you will see a pretty big rush of posts here. Everything that I didn’t reblog back then will be posted in a queue and tagged either ‘castus’ or ‘blessing’ if you want to block it temporarily.

The Slumber version 2
Deep within the bowels of the eerie ship he slumbered. Those on board with a sensitivity to the warp could feel the unnatural magics animating the corpse of a man. He was alive, but not alive like you or I are. Rather his life was a half-life defined by a soul tied by supernatural threads to a body that had long since breathed its last. Despite its state his body was well protected from rot and decay by the same eldritch magic which kept his soul tied to this plane of existence. Achilles slumbered, and his dreams were of fire and blood.
Those of the crew who still harbored imperial sensitivities were utterly terrified by the heresy. Not only did the Imperium dictate that necromancy was an affront to the Emperor; but also the use of xenotech and the creation of machines who could channel the warp. The Sigh of Summer was one such creation. Built in the shipyards of the planet Xel’thur’ziel which was in the heart of the Xa’anath empire, it was a testament to the Celestial Geists’ utter indifference to Imperial values. And Achilles was connected to it.
Thick cables of psychoreactive material sprouting from his head, neck, and back tied him to the unholy monstrosity. They allowed him to take over the ship’s weapons, piloting and navigation while the crew took care of the other functions. The ownership of those ships was limited to the stronger psykers for its operation was a heavy burden.  The space battle above Elysium’s Jewel had taken its toll on him. Now he was in the land of dreams while the others operated the backup systems.
Amaria stood dead on her tracks as the deep sense of wrong passed through her. She lifted her head to look at the ceiling. Achilles was several levels above her but she could still feel him. The cold gaping void of his presence and the feedback loop of his unnatural connection to the ship pressed agaisnt the astropath’s mind. Even though he would never hurt without reason she still drew back in fear. This was blasphemy, this was heresy. This went agaisnt everything her elders had taught her. Why was he allowed to exist, and why was he in the same place than her was beyond her. How much did she wish the Astartes had left her to die in the ruins of her home. This was madness!
She went to her rooms as fast she could trying to get some respite from the dreadful feeling, but it was in vain. Even in the safety of her quarters she could still feel him. His unnatural life. The sign of his evil existence. She tried to sleep but the knowledge he was there made it impossible. Could there be a place in this godforsaken vessel to which his aura did not reach? Considering the size of the warship it might be long while before a safe place was found, and there was the chance she would end up empty handed. But she had to try. Amaria hadn’t had a decent night’s sleep ever since she set foot on The Sigh of Summer, and her health was already suffering because of it.
The astropath spent the next several hours travelling across the warship’s corridors, trying to get away from the  crushing weight that was Achilles’ soul. The kitchens, the libraries, the bathrooms, the conference rooms. Every single place she went he was there as his presence was an ominous shadow of which she could not get rid of.
She finally collapsed in an anxious, shaking heap. Her fearful mind saw Achilles’ soul as black tendrils that covered every inch of the ship and its people, infecting them with his poison. All is lost, she thought. No one can save us now, not even God. The pitch black of despair engulfed Amaria like a miasma. The warm weight of a hand on her shoulder and serene words brought her back from the abyss. She opened her eyes to see Castus. The librarian and the astropath hadn’t had the chance to interact much but his aura had always made her feel warm and safe. A far cry from Achilles’. Her eyes went from Castus to the ceiling. “Castus, do you feel that. That beast in black?” For a moment she hoped that even though he might it would not affect him. Castus was one of the Emperor’s Angels of Death, and he knew no fear.
But her hopes were dashed when her witchsight caught the same emotion that defined the frailty of human existence. Bitter tears fell down her cheeks as her hopes were crushed. Strong arms wrapped around the astropath and her held tight agaisnt the Librarian’s chest as he tried to comfort her as best as he could while trying to ignore the freak in charge of the ship. In vain. The truth was not even the Astartes gifted with the touch of the Warp were inmune to this corrosion. “I fear no man.”, Castus said through clenched teeth. “But that thing...it scares me.”

TRUE END- Bittersweet ending. Some things go right, other things go wrong. Some sacrifices have to be made, but most people are happy in the end.
Once Suleiman had openly revoked his oath to the Warmaster and cursed the names of both him and his Legion, the crew had been divided amongst those loyal to the Magister and those loyal to the Warmaster, though the division of loyalties extended beyond that of the Gehenna's crew but also to Suleiman's own council even as he offered them the chance to leave without hostilities.
Castus and Aeger turned their backs and departed with no further words exchanged between themselves and Suleiman. Akephalos, however, had turned his blades towards Suleiman and Ramses; all that remained of the Biomancer was undying ash contained within armor.
Those who remained alongside Suleiman numbered few; Ramses, Valen, and Thalia remained distant even as the ship fell into a vessel spanning civil war that resulted in the deaths of one third of the vessel's crew.
After the infighting had ceased the Warship Gehenna remained in the orbit of Sortiarius whilst it underwent internal repairs and Suleiman isolated himself for quite some time.
He had returned, but what had doing so cost him?

Continued from XX
Duro looked up slowly to meet the eyes of the man before him. His fingers curled around the chains of his shackles, his jaw clenched tightly as he glared, anger warring with the pain and despair in his heart.
Agron was gone. After everything; growing up along side his brother, training together, hunting, fighting, laughing…it was over. When they had been captured and dragged from their home, the only solice Duro had was that he was still by Agron’s side.
Now Agron was gone, and Duro smelt of piss and sweat and dirt from being kept on a Roman ship, and the man who had purchased him like an item now had the gall to call it kindness.
“I owe you nothing.” He snarled, “I didn’t fucking ask you to buy me, I did not ask to be pulled from my brother’s side. I asked for no fucking favors!”
He stepped closer to the pirate, fury bright in his eyes, “I will not be forced to work to repay a debt I do not fucking owe! Fuck your kindness, and your crew!”
Duro wanted none of it. He wanted to be home. He wanted to be free.
He wanted his brother back.
The young man was lucky that Castus did not have a hot temper, he had sympathy with the hell the man had been through.
“You have been served an injustice, I know and I do sympathise. I tried to save your brother but I did not have the coin at my disposal that the lanista did.” He said calmly, not coming to close to the man and addressing him with a respect he doubted that Duro had not received in some time.
“What I am attempting to do is give you a chance to earn the coin to allow you to do whatever you wish with your freedom. I have a crew and a ship, I also know enough of the lanista to suspect where your brother is. You could buy his freedom and return home together.”
He turned to the sound at the door to allow a servant girl inside. She set a bowl of steaming water and the fresh clothes Castus had given her coin for. Thanking the girl, he requested two hot meals be brought up when available.
He waited until he was alone with Duro to address him again.
“Hot water and actual clothes, a simple chiton and such. There is a screen for privacy.” His eyes swept over the man, not to appreciate the almost nude form but the judge the level of anger in him. “If I remove your shackles, will you resist attacking? I am not your enemy here but I will defend myself from a fist.”

Songbird (Spartacus)
So Santigold’s “Pirate in the Water” came up? And honestly I just had to go back to the Spartacus-Space-AU
Castus enjoyed being a bounty hunter. It was so often one of his encounters tried to “save” him from his life, but he loved the thrill of the chase. In his more honest moments, he could admit that he didn’t approve of Heracleo’s treatment of their bounties. And he certainly didn’t like to spend more time with the bastards of Legonia’s recovery teams than he had to for his proof and exchange of creds.
Lycia was home. Castus was a child of mining dust and space thievery. He’d escaped the mines for Heracleo’s crew when he was still a youth, and he would never, ever go back. He’d swallow his distaste of Heracleo over and over again if it kept him out of those fucking mines. And that was how Heracleo kept his crew: there weren’t so many options out here that anyone could be choosy.
Gannicus hadn’t offered to save him, though. There was no talk of finding a better path or life. There was no attempt to shame him for how he made his creds or how he spent his time. Just a threat, which was Gannicus’ standard, and a warning.
Castus twirled his cred chip in his hand and looked towards the port. It’d been six months since Gannicus had made his offer. And even if the pretty bounty from all those months ago was gone, Adonis was a planet that always provided a good time.
Castus finished his drink and grabbed his bag from the lockers. No one stopped him as he made his way to the port. Inside his seat, staring out on the stars, he felt that excitement in his blood that always came when he worked a new job.
It wasn’t for a true bounty this time, but it was still a chase. And Castus? He was a very good hunter.

Is it possible for starships to engage in "space engagement" during warp translation ? Or in the warp for any occasion ?
Citizen,Typically, no it is not possible for a ship to engage in combat maneuvers while translated into the warp. The reason being that most primary systems are either diverted or shut down in order to operate the Gellar field that keeps the contents and crew of the vessel safe from warp entities. This isn’t to say that it could not be done when the Gellar field is dropped, but that leaves the ship open to the denizens of the Immaterium. Brother Castus - Adeptus Mechanicus

I've come to ask you for your analysis about the uneven appreciation and trust between Spartacus and Agron. Bring it! >D
OOOHHH!!! You know what you’ve done by asking me this!!! AND I FREAKING LOVE YOU FOR IT!!!!!!! *CRACKS KNUCKLES!!* OK!! PREPARE FOR A SUPER LONG REPLYYY!!!!!  Hope you’re ready @koby-cabana !!!! ALSO tagging @tays-role-plays in this!!!
NOW, I AM going to start this by saying I DO LOVE the Agron and Spartacus bromance! It is a great dynamic, HOWEVER, with that said, I DO feel it is a bit one sided in terms of canon evidence. Sure I have my own headcanons and such but I am going to try to stick to canon fact here!! And will acknowledge anything that is more speculation!! AS WELL, the uneven appreciation is also what I believe comes into play with the whole Castus thing, which will be included in my analysis when I get to the Sinuessa arc!
Firstly, it is important to note that Agron was the ONLY General out of the three (Crixus, Gannicus and Agron) that immediately joined Spartacus’ cause! Agron did not really need convincing, and while his initial motives had been to get Duro out of the ludus, he was unwavering in his loyalty to Spartacus and that has not changed in all his time with him!! JUUST putting that out there!
Ok so the first time we REALLY saw that tension between them, was when it was discovered that Agron lied about Naevia. It was the first time that Agron had really done something that he knew Spartacus would not be happy with, considering Spartacus’ adamant determination to find her for Crixus. BUT, even then, Spartacus went out of line when he went to try and kill Glaber in the market. So, I think its at tad bit hypocritical for him to give Agron any sort of grief of wanting to veer another way when he himself became clouded with own motives and need for avenging a loved one -- a need similar to Agron’s own. Also further note, that Crixus didn’t go there to save Spartacus but rather, to prevent him from foiling any hope of finding Naevia! I believe Agron went there to save Spartacus above all else!
Now, Agron has always followed Sparty and listened to his words. So when he was desperate to explain to Spartacus why he did what he did, Spartacus in turn, hit him as part of his “punishment” and in anger for Agron leading everyone to believe Naevia was dead! I do understand Spartacus’ point in that if it was Duro, Agron would not have felt the same way. Though, it would be interesting to see . . . if Spartacus, and even Crixus would have shown the same determination to find Duro had he been in the mines. Spartacus perhaps -- even then it could be argued both ways, but not Crixus. Which again, is reflective of Agron’s loyalty to Spartacus and that it IS stronger than Crixus’, because despite the German’s feelings towards he Gaul, his loyalty for Spartacus outweighed his hatred for Crixus. I don’t think Crixus’ loyalty to Spartacus is as strong as his hatred for Agron or his own motives.
NOW, after Spartacus hit him, Agron said “I will not fucking die for this.” And told anyone who wished to live, to come with it. A VERY IMPORTANT fact to note here, is that it was NOT only Germans that followed Agron! As far as we saw, there weren’t many Germans among them. Donar, maybe another one or two. The other men did not follow Agron due to cultural background or place of birth -- unlike the Gauls following Crixus. They followed Agron because they shared his thoughts in that they did not want to keep risking their lives to save Naevia. Agron’s mindset was shared by so many, as we saw the clear divide. Where as Crixus’ crew was not out of any sense of justice for Naevia but rather, loyalty to the “Undefeated Gaul”, as they were ALL Gauls. This is a very important fact that comes into play later on in another event.
So alas, they go, both Agron and Spartacus talk of how they shouldn’t have divided their forces, yadda yadda. Point is, the people who went with Agron survived and most that went with Crixus, died. Now, the next important display of loyalty on Agron’s part, was storming the arena. He did not do this for Crixus, but rather, risked his life because time and time again, his loyalty to Spartacus is stronger than ALL else. At this point, I was really hoping Spartacus would show some acknowledgment of that. Even with Mira going with them. These two people did it for Spartacus more so than Crixus, yet it is not recognized and instead, is dismissed or taken for granted. OF COURSE this is just based on what we have physically seen. I would LOVE to play into conversations of Spartacus expressing his appreciation for them and this and that, which is where the joys of rping come into play!
NEXT major source of tension . . . Agron freeing the Germans. At THIS event, I was disappointed with Spartacus. Just because Crixus is all “but who will they follow?” Referring to the Germans, Spartacus decided to question Agron’s loyalties. Which, is SUPER hypocritical first of all for Crixus to say at all, considering ALL the Gauls follow HIM, NOT Spartacus! it seems he was just bitter that he lost majority of those Gauls when they went to the mines. But, Spartacus doesn’t pause to think WHY Agron freed the Germans. Crixus planted this seed of paranoia in Spartacus to dare question Agron’s loyalties and the fact that Spartacus entertained it, was disappointing. Essentially, there were two options since the third boat as described by Agron, would not have proper fighting men. So it was between the Gauls and the Germans. Agron did NOT free the Gemans for them to be loyal to him. Allow me to elaborate on this!
Agron witnessed first hand how the Gauls followed Crixus, and would not offer any loyalty to Spartacus. This is evidenced in the ludus when none of the Gauls joined Crixus in the bring down of the ludus until Crixus decided for them to. And it’s also evidenced in the whole search for Naevia. Agron was avoiding a recreation of this. He wanted men who would follow SPARTACUS as well, and thus, did not want their numbers to be swelled by Gauls because they would just follow Crixus rather than Spartacus. Had the ships been between Gauls and Celts, or Gauls and another group, I’m certain Agron would have always chosen the other group. I’m not saying Agron wasn’t thrilled to have his own kin among him, but it was not at ALL his intention to bring them there to follow him and undermine Spartacus. It was his intention to have warriors in the rebellion that would not necessarily divide themselves when Crixus decided to veer from Spartacus’ command or conflict with his decisions.
So Spartacus questioning Agron’s intentions was really sad to me. And lets be real, it obviously would have hurt Agron. Here’s a guy, who was just doing what Spartacus asked him to and got shit for it because Crixus didn’t like the lacking number of Gauls in his group and didn’t like Agron. Agron also CLEARLY chooses Spartacus over them, even attacking Sedullus when he sees him going after Naevia which came from an act of sheer conscience. And then of course Agron’s powerful declaration saying that he is with Spartacus and will not call any man his kin who is not so. Now, the actions that followed with the Germans just reinforces and justifies Agron’s reason. Lugo exclaims that Spartacus defeated their great warrior Sedullus and would follow such a man.
NOTE, they did NOT follow Spartacus because Agron did. They followed Spartacus because they saw within him, a great warrior. This validates Agron’s decisions about why he chose the Germans instead of Gauls. Would the Gauls have shared that loyalty? The past proves differently in that, they would have followed Spartacus because CRIXUS did, and if Crixus strayed from Sparty, then they would have too. But the Germans did not; they had their own developed loyalty to Spartacus and knowing this, it is safe to say that Agron’s decision was a sound and fully justified one. Now of course, the assumption that the Gauls in the ship would follow Crixus is simple speculation, but I do think it is believable they would have based on how the Gauls we saw in the show were.
These are just some major events, and there are quite a few more in War of the Damned! It gets a bit sadder to be honest! Like, Spartacus saying that if anything were to happen, Crixus would take over. You could SEE the hurt in Agron and even Spartacus knew how much this would hurt him which was why he turned to face Agron and try to explain himself. Agron just cut him off by saying that Spartacus was still among them and would have it remain as such. But like, DAMN that had to have hurt Aggie that even after everything, Spartacus would trust Crixus in charge more than Agron -- and look how that turned out! Crixus rebelled and killed the Romans. Like, lets be real, Agron DESPISES the Romans but once again, his loyalty to Spartacus outweighs his hatred for Romans.  Agron I think must have felt like a backup; a last resort rather than a first option. Even when Spartacus took Gannicus and Crixus with him to storm the villa and Agron was all like “Wait, why am I not going?!?!” And so on!
As I said, there are MANY other moments where Spartacus sort of questions Agron. Another being where he asks him where Agron stands and Agron tells him “with you and always shall upon field of battle”. I think in this case Spartacus was just really worried about losing him, but I also think that he is always questioning where Agron stands when Agron has time and time proven again, just how LOYAL he is to Spartacus!!
OK NEEXTT big event, is Agron leaving Spartacus to side with Crixus. Is this due to any lacking loyalty to Spartacus?? NO! QUITE the opposite! He wants Spartacus to be happy and is willing to be part of a diversion so that the others may flee to the Alps. But that of course is just a reason on a smaller scale. Because, for the FIRST time, Agron experiences something that this time, outweighs his loyalty to Spartacus, and that his is love for Nasir. Because it is THAT love that makes him break off from the two men he loves most -- obviously in VERY different ways!! BUT it is Agron’s love for Nasir that fuels his actions and where he always picks his loyalty to Spartacus, this time, he picked his love for Nasir -- and even his love for Sparty in a way -- to leave them and fight with the others.
I am just going to add a small bit here, as stated in the beginning, as to why this whole thing plays into his feelings with Castus. Now, Agron is obviously very paranoid about losing Nasir! Why? Because as with Spartacus, Agron is quite used to never being a first choice. Spartacus often chose others (i.e. Crixus, or even Gannicus) and so on and while Agron never really says anything against it, its GOTTA hurt the guy! He’s giving Spartacus everything, every ounce of loyalty, and there are others placed above him. I think this same concept is what makes him so irrational  and fearful in losing Nasir to Castus. Obviously, not the ONLY reason, but I think he FEARS that Nasir will pick another over him -- recognizing the way Nasir looks at Castus -- because history dictates that to him. The more he loves someone, the more loyal he is to them . . . the more hurt experienced when he sees that they inevitably choose another. It’s not to say Nasir would EVER do that, but I think its where Agron’s paranoia and intense fear of it comes from, at least partially!
SOOO just to conclude this horrendously long answer/analysis , I DO feel that there is uneven appreciation. I would have LOVED to see more moments where Spartacus acknowledges Agron’s unwavering loyalty, rather than always questioning it. Agron has never directly defied Spartacus’ orders -- the closest being to when he lied about Naevia but even then, he wasn’t technically defying Spartacus. So I just wish we saw more bromance moments between them!! I get that the show can’t incorporate everything, but I do feel that the bromance was stronger with Agron and Spartacus compared to Spartacus and any other general on the show, so it would have been SUPER nice to see proper moments where Agron’s loyalty and devotion to him were recognized and appreciated!!!
THANKS FOR THE QUESTION MY LOVE!!!!!!! FEEL FREE TO SEND ME ANY MORE!! AND THAT GOES FOR EVERYONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! LOVE YOU ALL AND THANKS FOR READING MY DEEJAMBLE!!!!

The Slumber version 2
(note: this isn’t a new fanfic. I changed my url sometime ago, so I am reblogging this so as to not lose it)
Deep within the bowels of the eerie ship he slumbered.
“But that thing…it scares me.”

Duro jumped just slightly at the slap, his grin only growing, “You move boldly, Cilician.” He remained where he stood, keeping Castus by the table he had been found at. “We will go,” Duro had no desire for things to escalate in such a pubic area.
“But,” Strong hands fell to grip at the pirate’s hips, “what makes you think you,” He pulled Castus closer against him, “will be taking me?”
His grin grew, his hands squeezed for a moment, and then Duro was pulling away, one finger hooking around the handle of a wine jug before his feet carried him to the door. He glanced back only once to ensure Castus was following before exiting the tavern, and beginning the short trek back to his new place of rest.

Chuckling at the man’s words, Castus stood to follow. He nodded to his fellow crew members, many shook their heads or laughed as they gestured a farewell.
He followed Duro out, once in the street he fell into step with him, a hand coming to rest on that small but well rounded arse once more.
“Well, perhaps I think it would be a crime for an arse such as this not to be taken and given such pleasures as I can share.” Castus murmured, low and seductive, in his ear.

Offer Me, Nasir/Castus Pirate AU--or the Sparty pairing of your choice, if you don't count them as "usual"
They're not my usual pairing, but eh, I'll give it a shot. Also I want with ~~fantastical Golden Age of piracy bc ugh research right now.
"We will conquer the seas," some child dared to yell when overcome with too much rum and sand.
"The only thing that boy will conquer is that bottle," Castus said.
Nasir snorted. "A thing even you have failed to beat most days."
Duro laughed next to them; a rare expression of joy from the first mate who lost his brother to Davey Jones so long ago. "Captain Laeta did not bring Castus along for his raiding skills," he agreed.
A lesser man would've been affronted, but Castus merely took another drink. "I am the best cook to ever walk the streets of Tortuga." He briefly rested his fingers over Nasir's wrist. "Even if some child stole me from my perfectly respectable ship."
Nasir let the warm feeling that stirred in his belly show in his eyes. He rarely allowed himself such an indulgence of emotions on land, never quite felt secure without the rolling waves beneath his feet, but the air smelled sweet tonight and Castus smile was much sweeter.
Duro stood. "And this is where I leave you two. I seek a dry bed and sleep's embrace." He tapped Nasir's shoulder. "Don't let him drink away all your coin. The captain is still dediced on our next course of action. You must make that purse last."
Nasir nodded. "I do not think we shall linger for much longer."
Castus openly grinned at his words.
