by the way, just pointing this out: in tma the first jane prentiss episode was episode 6. she turned out to be the main antagonist for season 1. needles was introduced in episode 6. could it be a coincidence? maybe, but also the magpod writers are so good at hiding little hints and secrets into things and i really think theyre gonna be a reoccurring character, even if his role turns out to be a minor one.

also while im here, jane helped make the characters aware of avatars and tell them a bit about them, so maybe needles will help us discover a bit what’s up with the whole avatar/monster/whatever the fuck deal is with the fears(?) in this universe (and also make the characters aware of it).

My first take on Needles, some guy with an unhealthy obsession for body modification to have spikes needles all over.

It's not faithful enough to their name tho so i might just go with the idea of them being a bag of skin full of needles that looks humanoid enough to be the victim of a mugging, but that's a bit difficult to convey in my traditional art without spending 20 thousand years on a drawing. I also need to make them crustier and nastier ‼

What it… what if. Needles body hair needles. What if arms and legs covered with tiny needles that, from a distance, seem just like hairs standing on end, except when the light shines upon them and you can see the vague sparkle of little pieces of metal.

What if they can puff up like a puffer fish or eject their needles like a porcupine when threatened. What if when fully extended they make them look bigger, like a cat.

What if instead of clogging the shower drain with bits of hair the pipe just looks like a pincushion.

The palms of the hands and soles of the feet are some of the only places on the human body where skin has no hair at all. What if those parts are safe. This explains how Needles can walk around and use a mobile phone. It also means they could pet a cat if so inclined. And that they probably wear flip flops.

Hng. Needle thoughts. Brain full of needles.

Also I know it’s too early to make any assumptions but it’s really cool so far how tmagp is showcasing how new the fear entities are to this universe.

In TMA everything was like “this cult has existed for hundreds of years. This family of avatars is generations old. This legend has been around so long no one remembers where it originated. This podcast is starting the the end of the full story.”

And then in tmagp it’s just like “hello I’m new at this please be scared of me. Oh that didn’t work? Uhhhh let me try doxxing you” “yeah I uhhh. I get new fear clients- I mean victims- through my social media page.” “I don’t have an established base camp so I’m just gonna use this abandoned theater you used to like. Yeah that’ll scare em!”

Like it’s so fun how the fears don’t seem to be fully established yet, the avatars and entities are still figuring stuff out and learning what works and what doesn’t. There’s no big grand groups or schemes yet, just individuals trying to figure out how the hell they’re supposed to feed off peoples fear in this economy

The thing about Needles is he has a good concept but he's trying too hard. Dude who fills you with needles, while a bit hackneyed, is in practice pretty horrifying. The idea of being stabbed in the eyes with needles had me squirming at any rate. If he just let his work speak for itself, killed that guy and left his body to be found, he would generate way more fear. But he's way too impatient and insecure. He's gotta call the police and deliver his villain speech that he definitely practiced in the bathroom mirror that morning.

He's this weird mix of comically pathetic and genuinely dangerous. I really hope he interacts with the main cast at some point. Can you imagine Alice's reaction to his whole shtick?
