HIEROPHANTS  PARALLAX ERROR LP/CD/Digital
Release Date: October 23rd, 2015
Hierophants are not an oldies group, they are not a glitter group, they don’t play boogie music and they don’t play the blues. Hierophants are an original Rock and Roll group of 2015, and their songs are brief, to the point and every one a potential hit single.
The quartet consists of Zak, Daff, Paris and Jake. They started in 2010 when Jake moved from the coast north of Sydney down to Geelong and found himself hanging out with a bunch of teenage paisley clad skaters who swapped their Vans for boots at night, snuck into the pubs and started a dozen bands. Zak and Jake did some recordings one weekend, asked the two best looking people they know to join them live and the four of them have been writing songs altogether ever since.
Zak, the guitarist, plays with such free-spirited freedom that his sound has been compared to Lou Reed donking Mark Mothersbaugh over the head with his guitar.
Paris, the keyboardist, is an arch villain whose diminutive frame stands aloof left (or right) of stage.
Daff is bass guitar and the acknowledged handsome one of the group, and Jake is the drummer who's chimp-like playing underpins the simian sound of the band.
The Hierophants mostly originate from Geelong and kids who grew up there either became musicians, uni students or surfers. Hierophants are a little of each. Their sound is not unlike throwing your calculator in the ocean.
Goner is excited to bring you: Parallax Error by Hierophants

SHADOW IN THE CRACKS LP/CD/Digital Release Date: October 23rd, 2015
Tumblr media
You’d think putting out three full-length albums, a documentary re-release and a 29-date tour would’ve kept Jim and Mike Blaha plenty busy over the past year. And yet, here we are, with another raucous output from a pair of rock’s most prolific siblings...The album’s lead track “Timeless” proves that that darkness suits them well. The song is a twisted heap of distortion and reverb, tumbling forward at the behest of clanging bells and single kick drum hits. It manages to be both sinister and delightful, like drinking a cold beer while stranded at the world’s seediest roadside bar. Just be sure to play it loud.  - Noisey
Tracklist:
01 Timeless
02 800 Meters
03 Planting Flowers
04 Penguins Blood
05 Lonely Time
06 Elephant Seal
07 When the Bubbles Stop

Aquarian Blood “Savage Mind” - 2015 Record Store Day Release
Tumblr media
GONE117 - 7″ EP
Release Date: April 18th, 2015
AQUARIAN BLOOD’s first offering was a cassette only batch of Father Yod/Manson Family cult punk hippie creepy crawl home recordings by JB Horrell (Ex-Cult, Moving Finger) and Laurel Ferdon (Moving Finger, formerly of Nots). But their live show is a six-piece heavy freaked out proto-punk squall – chock full of synth burps, fuzzed out violin, guitar squeal and the ferocious vocals of Ferdon. Their debut single captures both aspects of the band, with the full band blowout on the two A-side tracks and the B-side a new home recording that is less unhinged but just as engaging.

Nots 'We Are Nots' Out Nov. 11th // East Coast & Midwest Tour Dates // Preorder Your Copy Today!
Tumblr media
Nots We Are Nots 114 GONE November 11th, 2014
PREORDER WE ARE NOTS
Listen to "Decadence" via The Fader / Pitchfork
Over the past three years, Nots has been writing, recording and playing in Memphis, Tennessee. A longtime collaboration between Natalie Hoffmann (guitar) and Charlotte Watson (drums), Nots has evolved into it's wildest incarnation yet. Featuring Madison Farmer on bass and Alexandra Eastburn on synthesizer, Nots follow up their first two singles on Goner Records with their guitar-driven, synth-laden debut LP "We are Nots." Recorded in the summer of 2014 in Memphis by Doug Easley, "We Are Nots" is OUT 11/11/14 on Goner Records.
There's a constant post mortem + excavation of the Memphis music underground by vultures of both the Euro and American varieties. Bands form, toil and scheme, mutate, play and record only to wither away in the seemingly unrelenting wall of indifference. Plod ahead a few years, label x or label z discovers + excavates the musical rubble as much for autocratic as historic purposes. A gold star and a box of records to the winner.
Nix the assertion Nots are a side project, a spin off, a revival of some fashionable subset of your record collection. Evolving headstrong their white noise is without compromise or concession. Brass venom yelled atop a torrent of twisted guitar shards, so human, barbed and unruly. Obliterate the retroactive retreat NOTS are NOW. -- John Hoppe

Utterly vindictive, it sounds like Nots are actively cornering some helpless soul: Alexandra Eastburn's skinny synth lines are frantic whips, Madison Farmer's bass is a dark rumble, and drummer Charlotte Wilson bashes tense anxiety. Hoffman hollers a properly twisted melody, calling out an enemy's excesses before getting high on her own tricks. - Pitchfork
...like the evil sisters of The Urinals. - Collapse Board

Blind Shake Breakfast Of Failures 111Gone  Release Date October 28, 2014
PREORDER
Listen to "Old Lake" via Noisey
Listen to "Parachute" via Brooklyn Vegan
Dense, massive locomotive music from this Minneapolis three-piece. Powerful sounds with the ability to careen through one cinematic, post-apocalyptic chase scene after another. Breakfast Of Failures comes clanging and crashing through these confused times.
Fronted by brothers Jim and Mike Blaha, with friend Dave Roper on drums, the trio have been tunneling through the underground since before telephones could talk. Having six full length albums to their credit, several singles, three collaborations with psych legend Michael Yonkers and another with downstroke warrior John Reis, the band continues to push the sliding scale between catchy punk songs and pitch red noise.
'Breakfast Of Failures' was recorded by Chris Woodhouse at The Dock in Sacramento, CA.

The Blind Shake is at once spacey, primitive futuristic, and brutal: a kind of backyard extraterrestrial minimal surf-punk party. One guitar, one baritone guitar, a fuckload of reverb, and a drummer who deserves an Olympic medal. - SF Weekly
It's more of the animal beat leadfoot protopunk you've come to love... - Brooklyn Vegan
Blind Shake, a psych-noise trio out of Minneapolis, make the kind of music you want to listen to while pushing 90 on the freeway. It's got the kind of mind-numbing, blistering guitar riffs and maniacal drums that sound best on the open road—or in their natural habitat, on the stage. - Noisey
Fast riffs, fuzz, and distortion—Breakfast of Failures has what you want from the Minneapolis powerhouse. “Old Lake” is full of distorted riffs moving from droning tones on the chorus to electrified awkwardness over a drum beat that makes you wish you were moshing the very second the beat comes in. - The Current

Ausmuteants 'Order Of Operation' Is Here!
Tumblr media
Ausmuteants - Order Of Operation 112GONE
Listen to "Freedom Of Information" via Wondering Sound
Listen to "Boiling Point" via Stereogum
AUSMUTEANTS started life in late 2011 in Geelong by Jake Robertson and Billy Gardner. Both had been playing since teenagers in trad garage bands The Frowning Clouds (Jake) and The Living Eyes (Billy). Being good looking rebels who play by their own rules, they cracked the shits, broke loose with just a synth and drums and in early 2012, knocked out the 'Split Personalities' tape. By the time that was out they'd added Melbourne loose-unit Marc Dean on bass, and soon after, ex-Canberran hardcore non-guitarist Shaun Connor on guitar.
Their second album 'Amusements' (note: not self-titled) came from this fledgling time as a full band, with a heavy dose of the duo’s songs. Since the runaway international success of that record and playing every second weekend in Melbourne, they’re rocked-out full-tilt with all four members writing and singing new songs. 23 of these were recorded live with vocal overdubs in the basement of an old Geelong ice cream factory by Mikey Young, then mixed and mastered in his idyllic coastal abode. Again the band and their Australian label Aarght Records strained the friendship with song picks, agreeing on 13 to make up 'Order of Operation'.
This record is better than Amusements any way you cut it: songs, lyrics, delivery and sound. The album opens up with Shaun’s forehead- and thigh-slapping musical and lyrical debut, "Freedom of Information". His girlfriend is suffering the indignity with panache. From there, songs range from balls-to-the-wall punkers ("Felix Tried to Kill Himself"; "Boiling Point"), well-considered workouts ("Family Time"; "Tunnel Vision") and unguarded tenderness ("Wrong"; "Looney Bin").
It's not just the band and label singing the album’s praises; it's the people who couldn't stand their juvenile bullshit before. They’ve ditched the toilet humour, got nasty and written songs about other people’s problems, terrible bands, fighting crime and trading sex for porn. Mikey after a vocal take: “You deserve to be bashed for that” (the song’s on the record; you guess which one).
'Order of Operation' is now their defining moment. If you don't like this record, you pretty much won't ever like Ausmuteants.
...a band now more than capable of channelling these punk instincts into something of notable substance. Synths no longer sound merely as a contradicting addition, but a complimenting instrument that fuels their unhinged urgency. - Rolling Stone
Ausmuteants were a major first day highlight, as well. If you've found yourself unsure what to think about their acerbic sense of humor, I'd urge you to see them live. - Pitchfork, Gonerfest 11 Review
...like an even more deranged Devo, combining hyperactive synths with panicked vocals and barbed-wire tangles of guitar for a net effect that was as harrowing as a runaway roller coaster. -Wondering Sound
Their brand of angsty new wave pushes all the right buttons. - Brooklyn Vegan
Australian instigators Ausmuteants’ self-described “postpop” skree reminds me of the unhinged keyboard-infused bombast of Jay Reatard’s late, great Lost Sounds. So it only makes sense that Goner, the Memphis punk and garage rock label that helped launch Reatard’s career, is also releasing the latest Ausmuteants album. -Stereogum
Not only are Ausmuteants masters of their influences, but they also present a widely resonant way of thinking. The dark melodies are world-weary, but there’s relief in their goofy messages. Is there any better way to deal? - MTV Iggy

So Cow 'The Long Con' Out Now!
Tumblr media
So Cow - The Long Con 104GONE
Listen to "Barry Richardson" via Pitchfork
Listen to "Science Fiction" via Stereogum
Watch "Sugar Factory" via Wondering Sound
After years of recording as one man in several sheds, The Long Con is the first full-on, full-band recording from Ireland's So Cow. Brian Kelly is this time joined by long-time foil Jonny White on bass and the pride of Dublin, Peter O'Shea, on drums. It's also the first album to be recorded in a studio and, if that isn't enough, has an honest-to-goodness producer involved, namely Deerhoof's Greg Saunier. Recorded live over the course of four or so days, the album is an attempt to capture So Cow's live sound, as opposed to the overdub-happy chaos that marked the debut LPs, 2009's best-of-up-to-then compilation So Cow and 2010's Meaningless Friendly.
The album was recorded in Ballyheigue in County Kerry, hitherto and probably-now-still most famous for being the birthplace of the guy who coined the term 'entreprenuer'. Saunier and the band ran through the process at a fairly spectacular pace, most likely inspired by the wi-fi being out of order. The Deerhoof man himself makes an appearance on the track "Say Hello", a pretty-much-improvised final day runabout. The Long Con follows on from the varied enough style of Meaningless Friendly and their half of Out Of Season, a split LP with Dublin's Squarehead, in that it zips around various styles in a way that, to this day, makes their friends find them "hard to describe".
The band themselves are of the mind that they sound like The Chills or McLusky, but they've lost all perspective at this stage so you shouldn't go taking their word for it. Similarly, lyrics telling of joyriding local politicians, John Deacon's post-Queen level of contentment, and the terror of turning 30 can probably now be interpreted any number of ways. So Cow are currently planning a quick September trek of the US, culminating in an appearance at Gonerfest 11 in Memphis.
The Long Con is a knobby, scatterbrained listen, but it's got more than enough charm to see you around the rough edges. - Pitchfork The Long Con is a great album not just because it sounds like a band, but because it sounds like a dynamic, ever-shifting set of songs performed with agility and polish by a band with equal parts punk energy, rock muscle, and pop sensibility. - PopMatters
..songs are gruffly, engagingly buoyant, charged with a youthful energy if not enthusiasm. He’s like a Billy Bragg without the politics... -Blurt
So Cow’s punk and lo fi-informed garage rock is engaging not only because of its scratchy, loose aplomb, but also because of its casually-delivered lyrical depth. - KEXP Song Of The Day
