I had to pay close to $700 unexpectedly so I’m hastily raising as much as I can within two weeks.  If I go over target, I’ll put any excess toward paying down some of the thousands in credit card debt I racked up from the same dental shituation.  Donate and I will write you a blog post on your topic of choice, containing ten words for every dollar.  If you chip in a few bucks you can get a haiku, right?

Somebody suggested I could meditate for a moment on what it would be like if Loki were behind the mask of the christian god.  What an obscure concept to be into, Norse mythology of all things.  It’s not like there’s some global media conglomerate spamming culture with a contemporary representation played by a conventionally attractive rich white guy.  How does one even get into these things?

At the core of the request is the concept of dystheism, and I’m grateful to whatever wikipedia editor linked that in the “related articles” section of Loki’s page.  What if the abrahamic god was a malevolent prank?  That might explain why god is nowhere to be seen – Loki was captured by his fellow æsir and squirreled away until doomsday, when his bastard children will bust him out of jail and destroy the world.  We’ll see Loki again when the soup goes down, possibly rocking stigmata and a crown of thorns.

Sometimes Loki’s pranks were for his own ends, sometimes he was badgered into using his powers for the pantheon, like the time he was impregnated (mpreg) by a male horse.  On one level, Loki playing Yah;_;eh demotes our lord of creation, but on another level, it empowers him, because he’ll win in the end, right?  And just like in Revelations, we’ll all lose at the same time.  If xtianity and the Great Middle East Hatepit are the creation of a prankster god, congrats to him, but it doesn’t change much for us...

anti-ai people need to understand that the opposition communists have to luddism and reactionary sentiment isn't like, a moral one. the main problem with luddism is that it doesn't actually work. like when we say 'we mustn't try to fight against technology itself, we need to fight against the social system that makes it so that advancement in technology and labour-saving devices lead to layoffs' the reason we're saying it is because, if you try fighting the technology, you're going to lose, and you're still going to lose your job too. when you say 'yeah i understand your criticism but I'm still going to fight against AI' you very clearly did not understand the criticism, because the point is that it isn't even in your own self-interest, because it will not work. the fact that, even if it did work, it would only mean maintaining a privileged strata of 'skilled labour' above other workers is secondary -- because, again, flatly resisting technological advancement has never worked in history.

lately i've been thinkin we hugely overestimate the average person's cognitive abilities - that society has a whole lot of people faking it to get by with a combo of social invisibility and learned parrot-phrases to get approval, but have little thinking ability behind the act. this is why con artistry and propaganda and sales are hugely successful fields, even when administered by people who are, themselves, borderline cognitively impaired (i've heard in business school some classes may as well involve using crayolas on your dittos, i've never met a con artist that wasn't a dimwitted bully at the end of the day - or maybe i did and they got me).

this is the classic cry of discoursers left and right, why must i be the lone smart person in a world full of idiots? but i feel like there's a progressive way to reframe that. even smart people can get rolled, but unsmart people get reamed with that shit.

they spend their lives getting sold over and over and over again, and they don't deserve that, just because of the way they're born. we need to make the world a safer place for the foolish, because we'll all get there eventually. all it takes is one bad trip or sickness or senescence and you're meat in the piranha pool. it's horrible.

not sure the best language to use for this concept. probably to not focus on the disabilities, but on the behavior that makes it hard for the disabled, right? besides, if the majority of people are dim, dim is normal, and it ain't dim - just less adroit than society expects. much like how society expects everybody to be able to be thin and healthy, but really a majority of people are not, in one way or another.

so like, valuing genius - it's cool some people can do cognitive feats, like it's cool some people can lift heavy stuff or do a standing backflip, but aside from blue ribbon time (and awarding appropriate employment), i don't know how much we should be elevating people for their brainz. and we should definitely be accommodating in society for a lot of people with a lot less, if we wanna be comrades.

lately ive shifted towards thinking of talent as mostly innate and therefore the inevitability of merit-based assignment of status/admiration/etc as fundamentally tragic, in the same way the hierarchy of physical attractiveness (which has of course some complexities and ambiguities but is, when zoomed out far enough, pretty undeniable) is tragic. like, its the same *kind of thing*, some people just *are* better writers, or thinkers, or mathematicians, or have prettier faces, or are more conscientious. imprisoned by the natures of our selves. i think this is part of why i cant get behind any philosophy that see the pursuit of those things produced by talent, of artistic greatness or virtuosity or whatever, as of high philosophical importance. such a philosophy, if true, would necessarily reject the mass of us. like maybe it IS true but then it's not....its not FOR us, its for those other guys. like what does it mean, to value greatness when youre doom to lack it, yknow?

pleasure in the world-as-it-is is of course not egalitarian but it is...mostly conceptually egalitarian. except for depression, i guess. but thats why you bring in the transhumanism aspects. to neaten things up. to value something that everyone *could* have, while still being...them, i guess.

i don't see this as being a deal-breaker for most tumblr users, honestly. the median sentiment on the site is reflexively anti-ai in all its forms, and people across the political spectrum don't love their data being sold, but for all the RBs anti-ai posts get, most people don't know shit about the subject and aren't invested in learning. they're just running with the opinion of whatever social media figureheads they favor.

social media has us by the short and curlies. we rely on it to come together. there is no perfect solution to the fact this is all a capitalist endeavor. i have advocated for socializing social media, but i recognize that's just putting it in government hands - far from a perfect fix.

this site isn't as reliant on artists as artists imagine. nice to have them here, but this baloney could keep rollin on shitposts and outrage for years without em. where else are people going to go? same kinds of places with the same kinds of problems.
