I’m really terrible at keeping up with posting my monthly reads on here. I’ve been busy in my final semester at college so I didn’t read anything (at least, not anything fun) in September and October. In November I read the Atlas Paradox by Olivie Blake.
Hoping to get back into reading more once I’ve graduated and find some time to update my TBR.

Carrie Soto is Back - Taylor Jenkins Reid
Haven’t been reading much but I did manage to get both of these on the day they each came out from different libraries.

May reading list
I got to two new libraries this month but I’ve definitely slowed down in the past week or so. Normally I’d read a book a day but I only managed three of the nine I currently have in the past week and a half because I’m dealing with some issues in my life that are getting in my head and making it hard to enjoy reading as much. Hopefully I’ll feel a bit better and get back to my usual pace, but still a good month over all.
Fevered Star [Between Earth and Sky: 2] - Rebecca Roanhorse
Gallant - V. E. Schwab
The Atlas Six [The Atlas Series: 1] - Olivie Blake
I Must Betray You - Ruta Sepetys
Elektra - Jennifer Saint

April reading list!
An Abundance of Katherines - John Green
Turtles All the Way Down - John Green
Looking for Alaska - John Green
Paper Towns - John Green
The Unauthorized Autobiography - Lemony Snicket
This Is How You Lose the Time War - Amal El-Mohtar, Max Gladstone
Brain on Fire: My Month of Madness - Susannah Cahalan
So I definitely didn’t think I’d be reading so much John Green this month, but the two libraries closest to me didn’t have anything on my TBR so I figured why not, might as well give it a try. And honestly, it’s not so bad. Some of the books I really liked. I think I’m mostly just remembering back in middle school when everyone was obsessed with The Fault in our Stars and just really didn’t get the hype. (Also- I think maybe I read Paper towns before but I just can’t remember. Like I know I watched the movie but I’m not sure if I’d read the actual book before.)
I was actually really interested to see what Looking for Alaska would be like because of how controversial it is (the library in my town didn’t have it at all - I wonder if it’s banned). It’s not that great of a story (I’m by opinion) and is very much a men writing women vibe I get from it but not super controversial really otherwise. I think people just jumped on the bandwagon to ban it rather than actually thinking about what people actually do read and what issues are important or not.
Also, Brain on Fire is the first nonfiction book on here. Wasn’t sure if I should put it because I had to read it for a neuroscience class (and I have a final exam on it this week) but I decided it’s a book, and I read it, so it goes on the list. Hopefully when I go home for summer break and have access to more libraries I’ll get through some of my TBR.

So as a person with a hundred or so scars, I’ve seen this mistake a lot in writing where characters will be described as having “thin silver lines” or something of that nature (this mostly applies to lighter skinned characters). Scars are only white/silver/light pink when they are old and well healed, and probably pretty shallow cuts to begin with. If your main guy got stabbed a month ago, he’s not gonna look like that. Scars stay red, purple, or pink for several months, or even a couple years for deeper ones. They’re noticeable. If your character’s scars are self inflicted, they may not always be parallel. They can be of varying depths and ages. If someone has scars from a couple months ago and scars from a couple years ago in the same area, they will look different. If they did not get stitches at the hospital, as is the case for a lot of people whose wounds are self inflicted, or if they’re in the apocalypse with no doctors around, etc. it will heal much more slowly and leave a wider, more oval shaped mark (you can only do so much when you’re basically taping yourself back together with bandaids). Anyway, just a little insight I thought I’d share.
