i know everyone's probably noticed this already but i can't help myself. it makes me insane noticing the similarities between the m1 trio and the m2 trio.

like the way tommy has this innocent look to him, the way he moves, the way he's so expressive with his eyebrows and barely talks cause he's an awkward little guy. he keeps to his expressions because sometimes it's just impossible to find the right words. kinda like vito y'know, who kinda just stands there unsure what to say but he's got this goofy smug expression on his face. they both wanted security, and the safety of their family. they both risked it all to talk to someone who wasn't on their side but they ultimately trusted either way. they're the youngest, their hearts are the strongest, their fear is the strongest.

tommy couldn't kill billy, vito couldn't let leo die.

paulie's lived his life cracking jokes, but ensuring himself and others that when the time comes, he's always gonna come out on top. a lot like joe who has also had to rely on his confidence to make it out alive. they know their passion will only be understood by a specific group of people, therefore they're the ones they will fight for til the very end. to their friends they're the sun, they're bigger than life, they're a beautiful loving person who's never going to let them go. and so the whole world seems to dim when either of these guys stop being so happy, because it's their confidence that gets rid of whatever makes their friends scared, so they can't ever show any signs of fear. they can never fear death.

paulie couldn't pull the trigger on himself, joe couldn't pull the trigger on vito.

sam has to wake up everyday knowing death is looming over him, and is channelling through him to remind him of his possible fate. his world isn't about gentle touches or empathy, it's about earning respect. and a favour done for him is a favour he has to repay. all he does is consider and say what if? but knows he'll never make them a reality because it will burn him. he's a lot like henry, who also can't bear the thought of being so open towards his friends, because all this worrying over death has made them forget what life's all about. they are death like those who have led them, what could they ever possibly offer the two people they love the most that's brighter than the sun, or more heartfelt than an angel.

sam couldn't give up the chance to finally have a choice for once, henry couldn't give up the chance to repay all he's ever thought he owed.

tommy and vito both hide under the sun from death

paulie and joe try and stay as bright as they can because they can't bear the sight of their best friend being hurt

sam and henry stand and stare because the light keeps burning them, and they don't fully understand why

Who cannot stand your oc and dreads every waking second that your oc might cross their path and their day will be irrepreably ruined.

actually so annoyed at how underused dino and lou were in mde. like after all the effort the devs went to make them actual characters and everything. like so you're telling me that dino is so outraged at this man who helped paulie and sam get away, that he is willing to track him down and get his friend to trash his taxi while he beats the living shit out of him. and then when this fella gets away, he's fine with chasing him through the streets of little italy while firing off shots and making a scene.

he runs out of the bar when paulie and tommy steal his car clearly pissed, and yet we don't even see him try and go after it? his character, at least to me, seems like the kind to try and get it back. like did he actually ever try after the incident or did sergio just tell him to get over it?

if you're gonna tell me that paulie's 'the guy they want in a tussle' i want to see that <3 and if you're gonna get paulie to talk about how he almost killed dino that one time as a distraction.. i'm saying dino was a perfect set up for us to see paulie beating the shit out of someone who we know he has history with. like despite what i said before, we're going down the line here, when morello and salieri are at each other's necks. dino and lou just feel really underused and if anything they could've simply been used as a way of developing paulie and sam as characters because in the end they're the best friends of the protagonist. (i understand money is limited when making a game. we were just robbed of some really fun interactions)

it's established that sam and paulie know these two assholes, and the way sam addresses them? the cockiness in sam's demeanour during the running man scene, you know the scene with all them in it, it's really good. it's setting up a story with some really fun characters with some really fun dynamics, and then the whole story line gets thrown out the window.

obsessed just a little bit with sam and paulie actually. i wish we could see them a little more before tommy came into the picture, because their chemistry really is so sweet, they're so candid. sam seems like such an asshole, such a prick when you first meet him, with his resting bitch face, his ruthless behaviour, his whole vibe really. but then you play through the game more and you see that behind all that he actually has this intense soft side, and even though he is so fearful of how things are going to turn out for him. he doesn't let it get in the way of him being physically and emotionally comfortable with his friends at all.

i feel like sam and paulie are similar in so many ways but where they differ is how open they can be with the people they love. i feel like sam is very real and proper, does what he thinks is best at the time, whereas paulie feels a little guilty whenever he does it, at least when he's sober. i think because everyone almost shuns paulie in a way, and/or he's dealt with it his whole childhood and while he's been in the family growing up. so when tom comes along and doesn't shun him at all really, he's this amazing, kind person who he relates to a bit more than sam. he finds himself getting attached to him, and that's why sam and paulie split up just a little bit because paulie relates to tom more and finds him more comforting. with how sam is salieri's unwilling golden child, i feel like tom doesn't divide them at all, but rather salieri's psychological manipulation to sam and paulie individually. it's causing them to want very specific things that they both see in tom but not necessarily each other. they used to but they're so caught up in everything, they don't hate each or view tom as someone better than them. they're just excited to have a new friend, a little overwhelmed.
