Some stuff related to that ficlet I wrote (X). I didn’t quite get to it in the written version, but Riku used the veil spell to change his hair and fur to brunet (matching Sora, since he used one of his hairs to do it). They all need to look like fae to enter Inconvenient Forest, but even other centaurs hate those Moon Clan jerks. So it’s much less suspicious if they all match a bit.

Because it wouldn’t be a parody fantasy ‘verse without a NeverEnding Story ripoff. :D
Riku escapes his clan when he’s visually CoM age (about 50 human years old). He’s stoked to be free and doesn’t want to admit he’s actually super lost and terribly lonely now. Mickey is, naturally, a sorcerer’s apprentice who convinces his boss, naturally Yen Sid, to take Riku in for a bit until he finds his feet (hooves?). Riku eventually goes back to drifting or whatever it is he does for like 10 years until he joins Kairi’s quest for ambiguous and convenient reasons, but I’m sure he makes a point to visit Mickey (and maybe Yen Sid) at least annually. Also, it’s been established that Kairi’s group eventually runs into Mickey again. Fae societies are sort of like sovereign nations within the Eight Kingdoms, so Mickey marrying Princess Minnie and them then getting called a Queen and King is still a thing.

I spontaneously had the urge to scroll through this blog today, and discovered a few old art posts that got unfairly sniped during the Great Tumblr Purity Purge. There’s no appeal button anymore, so I’m just gunna re-upload them and hope the censor bots have gotten less hysterical.

Noodlin’ with some costumes and plot bunnies. The bottom comic probably takes place early into the quest, when Riku was new to the party and pretty bitchy like, all the time. I should probably come up with a decent reason for him to have joined Kairi and Sora, because “he was bored” doesn’t hold much water when he’s clearly so irked by humans. He should need something that’s worth putting up with them for. Maybe Mickey is missing? As evidenced in the doodles, I was kinda thinking that maybe he spends a few years in service to him and Queen Minnie. Either way, they’re old friends and Riku owes him a debt. Hmm.

Time for this AU to hiccup out of hibernation for another thirty seconds. It’s just so good for overcoming art block.

Now, I wonder if the Endless Sea actually has a current towards the drop? Like, if a ship is just drifting without any way to fight the current, it'll slowly be pulled over the edge?
Totally! Currents and tides go in normal sorts of directions closer to the continent, and there are probably a lot of crazy phenomena out in the sea like a Perpetual Whirlpool and a Dead Zone and whatnot, but as you get way, way, waaaay, way out there, things start to flow towards the drop. It’s gentle enough at first that you can realize what’s happening and still escape fairly easily. But if you get reckless or curious, there is something akin to an event horizon. At that point all you can do is try to survive the fall. If you succeed, then maybe think about surviving whatever bizarre Netherworld it leads to. And THEN maybe think about how to escape it.
Tbqh I have no idea what’s down there. But I’m sure Kairi and her crew will have to go there at some point. Maybe even on a future quest years after the Coronation Quest, because I totally assume they keep questing even as married adults.

I updated this post to include some new musings.
So I’ve been thinking that all Eight Kingdoms, being quite vast, each have most of the generic fantasy geographical features in them. But there are also certain ones that have an excess of certain features, which also leads to an excess of certain types of fae and some traditions about the naming of crown princ(ess)es. Also I’m thinking it’s probably easiest if they’re ordered by Disney appearance of the current heirs.

HAHA okay so. I think I’m mostly satisfied with this ramble-tastic abridged novel timeline type thing. I’ve put it on a “page,” so I don’t think it’ll work on the tumblr mobile app. But here’s the link. Also I’ve added a page to collect tags that I use for re-occurring themes. Woo organization!

The person who had Olette imprisoned in a tower, AKA Random Low-Tier Villain #1, had Axel just as captive. Should Axel fail to thwart potential rescues, he’d be killed by Villain and their other minions. None of the other potential heroes were interested in talking to Axel, let alone entertaining the idea of a truce and joint rescue mission. Kairi, however, was willing to listen and trust. Though Axel does conveniently neglect to mention that he actually started the feud by owing Villain a bunch of money, some as retribution for eating a couple minions.

This timeline is going to be more like an abridged novel than a bullet-point list, at the rate I’m currently going. I don’t want to get too bogged down with tiny details though, so if I think of stuff along the way I’ll just pop in and make a post.
First up: New thoughts on Prince Ventus and his state of magical sleep. I’ve been figuring that in this ‘verse, people still age even when under a sleep curse. But the lack of food or exercise is irrelevant; the physical condition your body was in when you went under is more or less how you’ll come out. Injuries will have healed in real time, but relative muscle mass is maintained. Ven went under as a fit teenager, and will wake up as a fit 20-something. Maybe a little time is needed to recuperate, but nothing even close to the real-world physical therapy needed after a coma.
I do figure that he grew a beard, though. Aqua kept it and his hair trimmed, but a close shave was a little too weird. What he decides to do with it when he wakes up is up for debate.
