With the protection thing I’m wondering if some Cybertronians just have worse protection than others? For instance some characters capable of space flight like Cosmos seem to have no intake ducts, whereas others like Cyclonus for some reason have massive front facing ones- Although I always thought perhaps maybe the ducts could close/open at will? So that on certain atmospheres you could perhaps swap to more efficient propulsion methods

I think the magnetic properties of the spark chamber is an interesting idea, but my brain immediately started thinking about open spark surgery and tools getting stuck to the spark fhhfjf

(Although in reality, or as real as fictional reality can be, they’d probably just use diamagnetic tools)

I think my only issue with a nuclear fission spark theory is that depending on the continuity (I’m going with IDW1 automatically) they seem to have a susceptibility to radiation exposure? Or at least have to worry about it in some sense, although I don’t think they’ve ever really given a reason why. Unless their spark casing happens to block out most/all radiation, it’s a bit hard to imagine they’d have a large source of emitting radiation within themselves? That and how they need to freeze the spark solid for storage during the cold construction process. (Although it is possible to freeze stars solid, I’m not sure if they can be thawed to start the nuclear fission process again? Maybe this is where we take more to the fi in sci-fi)

I did also always have a theory that whatever alloys Cybertronians are made up of are much stronger than typical man made ones? Since they seem to be able to take quite a beating without getting dents or being utterly crushed fhjfjf-

Well cosmic dust is also a thing, which I imagine builds up if you're flying through space repeatedly? (It's usually made of bits of ground up rock, ice, whatever else is floating in space)

But then that brings up a different discussion bc engines that use air intakes are only possible on planets containing oxygen, otherwise it's unable to burn. So dust blockage issues would have to be an accumulative thing on oxygenated planets. If a Cybertronian has a space flight capable altmode, they'd need to burn some sort of oxidizing fuel (likely energon?) similar to how rocket engines burn in space without access to atmospheric oxygen.

So I guess takeaway is, space flight capable altmodes shouldn't have to deal with any dust problems? Since they shouldn't really have a need for any sort of intake

Which is also maybe why Nautica's altmode is only partially space flight worthy??? Since she seems to have a lot of intakes (likely designed as water intakes for propulsion)

I dunno speculating on Cybertronian mechanics stuff makes my aviation/engineering brain jump up and down eheh

First off this absolutely cursed AU was inspired by Lemonomelette and a post they made -X Secondly I imagine it all being about bots and cons trying to one up each others factions and not actually helping in any serious way because their too busy with their own faction bs.

Think of two rival car dealerships across the street one upping each other to get business and instead of business with cars its interstellar robot fairys trying to woo sm children to let them grant their inconsequential wishes (which may or may not be worth it) instead of the other guy next door.
