wait there's 3 april fools games? i only know of the new + novel one, do you have a link or something to the third? C: i'm so insane over these guys
The third one is the ZENO RPG!! Where ZENO 4/1 and ZENO NOVEL are fuyu-centric and aki-centric respectively, ZENO RPG is kuro-centric! There’s no English translation for it publicly available, but it’s pretty easily playable through MTL like Google lens
It does contain spoilers for daily life, as well as for the base game!

THOUGHTS ON THE NEW ZENO APRIL FOOLS GAME NOW!!!!!!
I'M IN SHAMBLES OVER IT HONESTLY
When it initially got teased on twitter, I was really hoping for it to be Fuyu-centric since the other april fools games were Aki-centric and Tsugino-centric respectively, and was over the moon to find out that it was!! In the normal endings, like the other april fools games, its a little bit less obvious, but in the true ending it's implied to take place after Ushirono Ending G, and that fact recontextualizes the whooole game. Of course Fuyu doesn't want to leave the April Fool's dimension-- everyone he loves is dead, he got his revenge and he's left hollow and alone with the fact that what he wanted wasn't revenge, but to return to the days when him, Aki, and Natsu were all happy together...
And on that note-- NATSU'S BAD END WAS SO FUCKED UP AND TWISTEDDD OGUHGHG MY GODDDD,,, the way so many of her dialogues revolve around what she can do when she grows up, and the way she actively acknowledges that she's never going to be able to, so the only way to grant her wish is for Aki to be her age... and the way fuyu's not even mentioned in that ending... it all makes me so unwell in the head
I'm also really fond of the interpretation that the doctor looking after Fuyu in the true ending is Konno-- it would make sense for him to know how to use his memory device, and the silhouette looks awfully similar to his hairstyle and clothing... Though it is kind of a reach haha

How to play RPGMaker Games in foreign languages with Machine Translation
This is in part a rewrite of a friend's tutorial, and in part a more streamlined version of it based on what steps I found important, to make it a bit easier to understand!
Please note that as with any Machine Translation, there will errors and issues. You will not get the same experience as someone fluent in the language, and you will not get the same experience as with playing a translation done by a real person.
If anyone has questions, please feel free to ask!
1. Ensure that you are downloading your game in the right region Locale.
In your region (administrative) settings, change 'Language for non-unicode programs' to the language of your choice. This will ensure that the file names are extracted to the right language. MAKE SURE you download AND extract the game with the right settings! DO NOT CHECK THE 'use utf-8 encoding' BOX. This ONLY needs to be done during the initial download and extraction; once everything is downloaded+extracted, you can and should set your region back to your previous settings. helpful tutorials are here and here!
2. Download and extract the Locale Emulator
Linked here!
3. Download your desired game and, if necessary, relevant RTP
The tools MUST be downloaded and extracted in the game's language. For japanese, they are here. ensure that you are still in the right locale for non-unicode programs!
4. Download and set up your Textractor!
Textractor tutorial and using it with DeepL. The Firefox tools for DeepL were broken, last I checked, but the Chrome tools work fine! If the tools don't work on chrome, you should be able to either use the inbuilt extensions, or copy-paste the text in yourself.
5. Run through the Locale Emulator
YES, this is a necessary step, EVEN IF YOUR REGION SETTINGS ARE CORRECT. Some games will not display the correct text unless you also RUN it in the right locale. You should be able to right click the game and see the Locale Emulator as an option like this. Run in Japanese (or whatever language is needed). You don't need to run as Admin if you don't want to, it should work either way.
Tumblr media
6. Attach the Textractor and follow previously linked tutorials on how to set up the tools and the MTL.
Other notes:
There are also inbuilt Machine Translation Extensions, but those have a usage limit due to restrictions on the API. The Chrome/Firefox add-ons in the walkthrough in step 4 get around this by using the website itself, which doesn't have the same restrictions as the API does.
This will work best for RPGMaker games. For VNs, the textractor can have difficulties hooking in to extract the text, and may take some finagling.

hi!! i saw on the shtdn tag that you had the art/game book for it. is there any concept art stuff in there or stuf that hasn't been posted online that you'd be willing to share at all?
Hi!! The art book is just a compilation of the backgrounds from the game, there's no extra concept art in it unfortunately!!

ahh gotcha!! i was worried that, since it's pixelated, an image translator will have trouble picking it up, but i'll try!! thanks a bunch <3
YAYAAA it can be a bit finicky but works well for the most part! Have fun!

are there any translations for ghost six? i wanted to play it with an mtl program, but seeing as how some of the text is in images (like the in-game phone messages) there's no way to extract the text for certain parts of the game :( are they important to the overall story? i suppose i could just brute force my way through finding exactly which kanji each one is, but if you have any other tips i'd really appreciate it!!
There aren't any im so sorry !! We also played it using the MTL and text extraction, but you can read the messages using google translate from your phone, or a site that can extract text from images and mtl that text !! They can be kind of finicky at times but they do work decently well!!

can konno and aki be a thing ... ive never seen them, unless its a weird ship oops
Konno and Aki could absolutely be a thing! I think they have a fun dynamic together :)
Anon i think you should live laugh love and just ship what you like--make your own decisions on whether a ship is weird and just ignore everyone else

ive been meaning to play some of the other mazu games, but i know little to nothing about machine translation(?).
do you have any pointers? the only translation thing im familiar with is google translate, unfortunately.
i've been using textractor and a few plugins to autopaste into deepL, but that only works for the downloadable rpgmaker games rather than the VNs or browser-based games. Fair warning that the browser plugin for firefox is broken, so you unfortunately have to use chrome ^^;
when downloading and extracting the games, make sure your computer's non-utf character encoding language is in japanese to make sure they work properly.
you may need to use a locale emulator for some games if they only run in a japanese locale

mazu has a lot of games and i only played zeno and shtdn (and now like the synopsis of no salvation) do you know anything else about their other games?
Sorry this took so long! Mazu has a lot of games, and I'm just going to provide a brief hook for each rather than a full summary! I won't be discussing games I haven't played for myself
Colorless Kaina - (Mushoku no Kaina / MuKai) Colorless Kaina centers around the protagonist, Boku, in his last year of high school. One night, he stumbles across a murder-in-progress by the pure-white murderer Kaina, who allows him to live after finding him amusing for his reaction to the murder being struck by how gorgeous Kaina is. You play as Boku over the course of a month, choosing how to spend your morning, afternoons, and nights either spending time with Kaina, going to school, or going to work part-time. If you make the right choices, you can discover more of Kaina's past and about his involvement with the killer Nakae Mio. Content warnings include murder, suicide, nonsexual grooming, and codepency.
Paradise Destroyed - (Rakuen Hakai / RakuHaka) Rakuen Hakai centers around the story of two brothers- Kaneki Kai and Kaneki Bel. The duo are esper thieves, stealing various precious items for Kai's collection until they're caught by police and sent to a strange prison/alternate dimension(???), where they try to find their way out! I haven't played too much of this one, so please take my explanation with a grain of salt. Content warnings include emotional dependency, a major suicide warning, child death and child soldiers, amongst others!
GHOST 6 - (56) Ghost 6 is about exorcist Sumire and caught scammer Tsutsuji and their endeavor to find the ghost haunting the subway station. Tsutsuji is working with Sumire to help pay off his frankly massive debt. Content warnings include familial abuse and suicide.
Marbling Clear - (MarCle) Vampire Wata washes up onto "Mother's" Island, where he is discovered by the priest Momen. After sucking their blood, he is cursed to only be able to drink their blood, so he stays on the island with them until they can break the curse. It's relatively lighthearted, but I also haven't played enough of it to get to the more serious parts of the game!

do u think fuyu can hit the griddy (or any dance move for that matter)
to be completely honest, i only have a vague idea of what the griddy is, so i'll just talk about my general thoughts on his dancing skills LOL
i think he'd be a fairly competent dancer! He'd have bold and precise movements, even if he's a bit stiff at points... He strikes me as the type who shines in dancing with a partner more than by himself

IM LAUGHING MY ASS OFF RIGHT NOW
you were right when you said that the browser with daily life crashes a bunch 😭
other than that, im enjoying daily life a bunch so far. its great seeing the zeno cast again now that im getting back into zeno! cant wait for the horrors.
YEPPP ITS REAL UNFORTUNATE... the itch version uploaded a few days ago might be more stable, but I haven't tested it myself yet...
I'm glad you're enjoying it though! I love daily life a lot so it makes me happy to see others get into it heehee
enjoy the horrors! (kanrai)
