Roman mosaic, the shell, at the Verulamium Museum. St. Albans, Hertfordshire, England.
Verulamium was a Roman settlement conquered by the Romans during their invasion of Britain in 43 AD. Burned to the ground during the Boudica Revolt in 61 AD, the Romans rebuilt it. Verulamium became one of the largest and most prosperous cities in the province of Britannia.

This lavishly decorated piece is a Byzantine bracelet dating from the 6th century. The Byzantines created complex and precious pieces, such as this bracelet, which is encrusted with expensive gemstones and pearls, demonstrating the wealth of the Byzantine empire.
The openwork technique, also called Opus interrasile (meaning ‘to scrape in between), is done by punching or piercing holes in the metal with a chisel or other sharp tool, resembling delicate, lace-like patterns.

Roman domus known as ' House of Muses", Türkiye.
Photos and text from DAILY SABAH - ANADOLU AGENCY
The House of Muses, discovered in the ancient city of Zeugma in the Nizip district of southeastern Gaziantep province during excavations carried out since 2007, is one of the most important examples of Roman residences in the historical site with its rich architectural decoration, well-preserved mosaics and frescoes. Zeugma is home to Roman houses, believed to belong to nobles, dating back to the second and third century B.C
Tumblr media
The ancient city’s House of Muses, which was unearthed after 14 years of excavations, was named after a mosaic on its floor depicting the nine muses of ancient Greece, who, according to legend, rule over the arts and sciences and inspire those who pursue them.

The Zeugma Mosaic Museum, one of the world's largest mosaic museums, is home to unique ancient artifacts, such as mosaics, Roman-era fountains, a bronze sculpture of Mars – the god of war in Roman mythology – and the famed Gypsy Girl.

The Tara Brooch/ Dealg na Teambrach C8th CE, found in County Meath 1850
It is made of cast and gilt silver and is elaborately decorated on both faces. The front is ornamented with a series of exceptionally fine gold filigree panels depicting animal and abstract motifs that are separated by studs of glass, enamel and amber. The back is flatter than the front, and the decoration is cast. The motifs consist of scrolls and triple spirals and recall La Tène decoration of the Iron Age.
A silver chain made of plaited wire is attached to the brooch by means of a swivel attachment. This feature is formed of animal heads framing two tiny cast glass human heads.
Along with such treasures as the Ardagh Chalice and the Derrynaflan Paten, the Tara Brooch can be considered to represent the pinnacle of early medieval Irish metalworkers’ achievement. Each individual element of decoration is executed perfectly and the range of technique represented on such a small object is astounding.
