Okay but picture Bobby just going about his life after the cruise where Chim’s old buddy Tommy with the abdomen scar flies a helicopter into a hurricane to save them and that was nice but that’s really the last Bobby thought he’d see of him and suddenly this man is everywhere. Buck and Eddie can’t stop talking about him on calls and then he heroically saves Chimney and brings him to his own wedding and—is he kissing Buck on the mouth?????

I am surprised I have yet to see anyone say it, but a part of me is not surprised the BOB’s are convinced about buddie eventually being endgame. We keep having oliver stark sort of give credence to the theory in his latest interviews. (Starting to think he needs to be quiet because yeah, he isn’t helping 😂)
and then we have the writing on the show itself.
The scene that stands out for me is buck with Maddie at her place. He seemed *more* upset that he lied to eddie about the bad date than being upset about the bad date itself. does that make sense? It was weird. its like the writers themselves are confused about buck and Eddie.
I think everyone is confused honestly and hence, we have the insanity that we keep seeing
Hmmmm, I’m gonna disagree on two points-
1. I don’t see Oliver’s answers to questions he is being asked as necessarily giving credence to any theories. Frankly the PR team should probably tighten up what questions are allowed to be asked, but for good or ill, Buddie gets clicks. The network is absolutely okay with using a portion of their audience that way. I think Oliver’s generally been not confirming any theories so much as re-examining things through the lens of his character now understand his bisexuality and saying he sees how things can be read that way. He also knows he’s not responsible for how people take that, and some of the chaos is probably coming from knowing it doesn’t really matter because unless he is ever actually approached with the storyline, it’s just spitballing. I think the problem with these interviews is less with him and more with the network/production team. But then again there’s no winning this game. If they talk, people take it as confirmation. If they keep quiet, people take it as confirmation. So if people people are just going to believe what they want anyway, why not capitalize?
2. The scene at Maddie’s house. It makes sense to me why Buck would be focusing on the lying to Eddie part, and it’s not romantic. First of all, unfortunately Buck is old hat at awkward and terrible first dates. He’s gotta be somewhat used to his curse by now, and having a cute guy tell him he’s adorable but not ready ranks nowhere near an emergency tracheotomy, so. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Damn, you win some you lose some, right?
Anyway, lying to Eddie is uncomfortable for him on a few fronts. The first is simply feeling bad about being dishonest to his best friend. (Personally, I maintain that it’s not lying if it’s not your business, and frankly it’s not really Eddie’s business if Buck wants to explore his sexuality and go on a date with a man, and Buck can tell or not tell people at his discretion. But I digress, it is in character for Buck to value this sort of up-front volunteering information honesty.)
Second, is the internal inconsistency that he’s discovered and is wrestling with- he’s an ally, he’s always been an ally, he’s totally in favor of The Gays, so it shouldn’t be a big deal right? Because there’s nothing wrong with it and he knows that so it shouldn’t be so hard to say, right? And if it’s no big deal and he hasn’t done anything wrong, then why is he so scared to say it? Why did he “lie” to his best friend about something he shouldn’t be freaked out by? He’s sort of minimized the importance of sexuality to a point that he can’t even explain to himself why he felt uncomfortable being seen before he was ready. (The answer is it that it is a little bit of a big deal actually and his understanding of himself and what his life might look like has shifted in a big way, and it’s okay to need some time to process that but this is Buck we’re talking about, he never wants to give himself time.)
Third, I think he feels like he’s betrayed his trust in Eddie by not immediately telling him. Because he knows (mostly) that Eddie also knows there’s nothing wrong with it, he’s never seen any evidence of homophobia from him, he’s like 99% certain that it would be okay, and he trusts Eddie with everything else, so why not this? I think he feels like he’s failing somehow as a friend, not giving Eddie his proper due, by having hesitations about coming out. (But the truth is it IS scary, even when you’re 99% sure, that 1% is terrifying. This isn’t about Eddie himself, exactly, it’s about Eddie’s importance in Buck’s life, the place and power he holds in Buck’s internal framework of self, and in Buck’s general happiness and enjoyment of life. A negative reaction from Eddie would be devastating. That 1% is powerful. It’s understandable that Buck, especially since he doesn’t fully understand himself yet, what to even say, would be leery. But he doesn’t understand that his fear is not about Eddie personally, so he feels like he’s disrespected him somehow by feeling any kind of hesitance.)
In this, I don’t think that the writers are confused about Buck and Eddie, so much as people have a hard time not equating that kind of (affection + trust + prominence) with a romantic relationship. I think the fandom hubbub has less to do with anything the show is doing, than it has to do with people having to wrestle with and perhaps adjust their own expectations, and people who refuse to consider alternatives. Sorry, anon, this may not have been the answer you were wanting, but it’s my genuine thoughts on it all! 🫶

oh my god, about the lawsuit arc, you are so right! one of the things that always annoys me in 911 is that it always seems like the lawsuit's treated in-universe like Buck was overreacting and throwing a tantrum, but he was RIGHT! he'd been medically cleared and Bobby was refusing to let him return to duty cause he was too protective, but everyone conveniently forgets that part
I always thought maybe i missed something because it's like never acknowledged that, while there might have been better avenues or solutions for Buck to pursue first, Bobby was the one in the wrong in that particular scenario AHHHHHHHHHHH
The thing is that whether or not any of that would have played out that way IRL, and whether or not the show ~intended~ Buck to be perceived as overreacting…. Canonically, Buck was right!
And I say that because of the settlement offer.
I don’t care that it’s probably just Hollywood types not knowing how money works, the fact that the Fake City of LA, in-universe offered this man MILLIONS OF DOLLARS to not take them to court…. He had them over a barrel. Smarmy lawyer-guy was telling Buck he could be a multi-millionaire, so that means that Buck would have received at least 2 million AFTER the lawyer took his half, so the settlement offer was north of 4mil.
As @itsjustpoopeh says, that’s not nuisance lawsuit “go away” money, that’s “we’re fucked in the ass” money.
It’s “oh god please do not let this see the inside of a courtroom, please we’ll do anything, we’ll give you somebody’s firstborn, we’re dead! Money.
And instead he said “just let me go back to work.” Hence him being Fake LAFD’s absolute favorite most specialest boy. They probably also paid him a hefty sum (they would have had to once they offered to settle) though not millions, adding to my Buck Has Money headcanons. They lined up to let him fleece them at poker. That guy who was 💯 not buying Hen’s argument for getting a helicopter called it in 30 seconds later and got told to mind his business. They have a shrine at headquarters and their prayers are why his luck is all the way good or all the way bad, like getting struck by lightning and dying = bad, but surviving without a broken back = incredible.
I love Bobby, and I love his and Buck’s relationship, but he truly fucked up that time and probably had to take a bunch of off-screen HR classes about disparate treatment and professionalism. (it didn’t take 😂)

100% honest here.
If I were a writer for this show. I would definitely think twice about making buddie canon.
I’ve seen how the rabid fan-squirrels in other fandoms behave when they get their OTP. Making the lives of the actors a living hell with the relentless stalking and speculation on their IRL relationships.
So I’m going to get out in front of this bullet train of crazy right now.
This is a fucking television show. I understand, I love the stuffing out of most of the characters on 911. But when a professional actor says a specific fandom is getting overwhelming. Ya’ll need to sit tf down, shut tf up, and chill tf out for a really long minute.
I actually for the first time EVER had to filter/block some tags because you all were flooding social media with your special brand of unleaded crazy since Tommy Kinard has shown up.
And ya’ll are shookth. I get it. You wanted your soft white boys to kiss, and instead they brought in a grown ass man who does not have time for games, to tell an actual story.
The actors are being exceptionally good sports. And playing the media game adeptly. But you can start to see the slight fraying at the edges.
And the overwhelming opinion is some of ya’ll are Annie Wilkes level of crazy. And it ain’t cute.
