I understand the Jeff x Annie ship criticism. I do. She was only 18 when the show first started, and he first saw her as attractive (in the Debate episode), which yes, was kinda icky.

But then she grew up. And it got more appropriate because she came to be in her twenties, and she was more mature and older (things which I have previously stated before).

But I think the whole point of Jeff x Annie in the series was that, while they may have been meant to be, and been True Love...they were not meant to be yet. She still had a life to live and experiences to have, which in the end of the series, he decided he didn't want to hold her back from.

Which is why the movie is such an exciting thing. Annie's in her thirties now. She's gone into her dream career, she's had many experiences - and the universe may finally be ready to have her and Jeff together.

By the way, I want this blog to be a fun place for people who like jeffannie to see content about the ship! Shipping jeffannie doesn’t preclude shipping other stuff, so I’m not going to post anything that bashes another ship like jeffbritta or is anti-lesbiannie!

Part of this blog being fun is that I want people to be able to go into the notes without seeing a lot of rage and rudeness about the ship. Jeffannie in the movie idea— he’s doing great and he’s really built himself up, doesn’t drink or anything, he’s created a good life. Annie is also doing great and she came to greendale thinking she’d suggest to Jeff that they give it a shot, maybe that he come live in DC. But when she sees how great he’s doing, how happy he is, she gets insecure. Maybe he’s too settled to want a change.

But then at the end of the movie he reveals that he put in all that work to turn himself into a man that’s worthy of her

She’s going to be president and he’s decided that if she’ll have him, he’ll be the best First Gentleman

Jeffannie is so needlessly complex and full of shame and guilt and that’s why it’s funny and fascinating. They could just be like “hey we’re adults and we like each other let’s try dating” but they don’t. They have to get jealous and panic and try to infantilize each other, or push each other away because they’re scared of what it’ll look like from the outside. Incredible use of will-they-won’t-they. You just keep hoping they’ll mature, but do they? Debatable
