What happens when you have a pregnant coworker? This is what happens when I do. I get quilting! I’m bringing it in to work today and the baby is only 3 weeks old - not too shabby. I’m really happy with it. I think of it as a quilt with 2 fronts and no back because I love both sides equally. This quilt is art that’s meant to be spit up on. 💙💙 — view on Instagram https://ift.tt/gDQEdKW

Dang it! I did it again! I meant to keep the back of this quilt very simple so I wouldn’t fall in love with it but my plan backfired. It’s simple AND I fell in love with it. So this will be another quilt with two fronts and no back. …I love it so much….💙💙💙💙💙 — view on Instagram https://ift.tt/zjK6m5c

The show is no longer up at UW Hospital. I got a call from someone who saw it there and wanted to buy a couple pieces so I brought them over to the Bodgery this morning for a showing. Such an awesome place! It felt really good to find two of these quilts a good home, too. 💙💙💙 — view on Instagram https://ift.tt/5t7xZFX

I just hung this up in my studio. I wanted to hang it up at the UW hospital with the show I have hanging up there now, but I couldn’t quite figure out how. It’s pretty precariously hung now but that’s ok, because it’s in my house. The show comes down this week. Have you been there to see it? It’s in the entrance of the UW hospital off of Campus drive for just a few more days. Let me know if you made it! — view on Instagram https://ift.tt/iFgKyx8he

The show is up! Somewhere in the UW Hospital, near the entrance. I hope you don’t have to see them. But if you do, I hope you enjoy them. — view on Instagram https://ift.tt/3feiBFx

Just a pile of quilts n’ such. They are about to get transported to UW Hospital to be hung up in the entrance. While I would love for people to see them, please stay well and don’t have to go to the hospital. I’ll post more info and a picture of them hanging up later. They will be there until February 4th. — view on Instagram https://ift.tt/338w5A6

I’ve been digging through old boxes of fabrics and came across this piece of indigo dyed silk from several years ago. I remember being disappointed in it at the time but I can’t imagine why. I think it’s lovely now. Sorry it’s such a bad picture, we don’t have any empty wall space to hang it on. On a related topic, can you all tell me where the piece I was actually looking for went? I can’t find it anywhere! — view on Instagram https://ift.tt/3cZqBJt

Just stitching away. Batiked fabric, dyed in indigo, hand stitched with naturally dyed embroidery floss. I don’t remember what I dyed the floss with. It was from the @botanicalcolors class I took this summer, so I know it was made with their high quality dye extracts, probably madder and/or cochineal…maybe. It’s subtly variegated because we had time to play with the dyes, so much that I got to make a few variegated samples. After this piece, I think I’ll do some machine stitching because my hands can only handle so much. — view on Instagram https://ift.tt/3CjZanT

Back at it. I can’t stop stitching on my batiked fabric. Good thing I have so much hand dyed embroidery floss. This one is long and thin. I’ll decide later what it will actually be. — view on Instagram https://ift.tt/3naGWB3

It’s done! It only took forever + a day. I hand stitched the front and back to the batting separately. It’s an idea I got from Maday @sustainabletextiledesign. Each side is its own thing plus it’s easier on my hands. I’m very happy with it though the size is strange. Kind of a lap quilt, not really a baby quilt because one side is white but also a little big to hang on the wall. I’m over thinking it. It’s the right size to be itself. Gus approves but, of course he does. It’s keeping him warm. — view on Instagram https://ift.tt/30eIKzI

Planner Post!
Check out  my 2022 planner!   I realized, as I was filming, that it isn’t super interesting to look at.. yet. It takes a year of time together for it to really gain character. Right now, it’s more of an empty slate. I will add more quotes and stickers before 2022 starts and throughout 2022 as well. Some of the quotes I’ve added so far are: “How would an artist with any self esteem act? Act that…

Here's just a quick flip through of my 2021 planner in action. I used it to doodle out ideas, to make lists, to track my calendar, and for inspiration. I love making a planner and I hope you'll make one yourself. by Jennifer Falkowski

It’s planner season!! Every year since 2015, I have made myself a planner. Here they mostly are (I can’t find 2020, which may be just as well). I save them since they also function as excellent diaries. Also because I love them, they kept me company all year. I’ve used a couple different formats but I always come back to the humble composition book. As a lefty, I cannot tolerate wire bindings. I just love the simplicity of the comp book. Each year, I change the design a little bit, making it more and more compatible to my needs. I always include lots of doodling space and pockets for stickers and little things I want to collect. Making a comp book planner is actually a class I’ve taught a couple times. It is such a great activity, even if you never use it or, like a couple of my students, you just use it to collect pretty pictures, quotes or make washi tape collages and choose to ignore the calendar part. I highly recommend you make one. I’ll share a flip through when I have 2022 all set. I’m so excited to get started!! — view on Instagram https://ift.tt/3mDkUXp

I just finished a #stitchedshibori class taught by @kimemquilts and presented by @botanicalcolors. These are my two favorites so far. The one on the left is soaked in a cutch tannin bath and then in iron water. The contrast isn’t awesome but I love the pattern. The one on the right was dyed in indigo and then iron water. One of the things I like best about them is that they were made with the exact same fold but different stitching. It was a great class and I’m looking forward to playing with color layering more. — view on Instagram https://ift.tt/2ZeqC8X

Indigo dyed floss stitched across a white quilt backing. It’s so hard to get a good photo. I want to show the fun in the waves or mountains or crooked paths that it’s taking but the wrinkles and the lighting just get in the way. It’s lovely in real life. It’ll look more like itself when it’s done. — view on Instagram https://ift.tt/3uWmhD9
