Hi! Hello! Sorry for disappearing!!! If you sent me a message, anon, or tag plz know I saw and appreciated it and I’m very grateful ❤️ I just have not been inspired to write in a long time and always wanted to come back with news that I had made progress. Unfortunately it hasn’t happened yet. I’m on hiatus rn, both from tumblr and writing, but I’m doing good and I hope you all are too!
If you have qs, please feel free to dm me, but I think I owe it to Clare to ask you guys to stop asking her about me - she’s not my spokesperson!

Hey! Can I ask you a question? You might not know the answer and it's about TLAT. I remember Jules gave permission to people to print TLAT in books (I was waiting for the whole thing to be out HAHAHA), but do you happen to remember in which chapter people split book 1 or book 2? If not, where would you split it? I want to re-read it but I want to do it on book format so now I'm a bit lost on what happened in each chapter. Thank you!!!
Hi this q is so interesting! I don’t actually know how people have broken it up in the past, but I think thematically, I’d probably end the first book either at the end of 6th year, or the end of the summer…I think you could think of book 1 as being about Jily’s friendship, from “potentially” in 7 to the break up in 9 through slow burn until they declare themselves friends at the end of 6th year, and then end it there - with the fun added benefit of that chapter’s foreshadowing the next book’s conflict- Lily just starting to explicitly acknowledge her attraction when James declares he’s over her, a hint of james and Carlotta as friends…
Alternatively (and I honestly don’t know which would be more even bc later chapters get So much longer) you could think of book 1 as pining James, and book 2 as pining Lily, and end it after Chapter 29. Why end it at 29, when James gets a gf in 27, you ask? Why, have you forgotten when he looks at her😭😭😭at the wedding😭😭😭and she’s PERFECT😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭? I have not and I certainly never shall. Plus, (a) Lily doesn’t have her Realization until the train platform, (b) this way both books end with a zoom out to the larger scope of the Wizarding war, and (c) you could think of book 1 as Alice and Frank’s complete love story, and book 2 as Lily and james coming into their own, following in their footsteps…idk there’s something beautiful about the two chosen ones having such parallel love stories. There’s also a lovely symmetry to both books beginning with a kiss on the train platform (that the other one sees and gets pissy about) (yes, James saw the OG kiss) (why else did he disappear to sulk)
Yeah, on second thought, if the length difference isn’t absurd, I’d split it after 29. So curious about anyone else’s thoughts tho!

i love when tragedies are like “the love was there. it didnt change anything. it didnt save anyone. there were just too many forces against it. but it still matters that the love was there”

nobody on this site is ever ever EVER going to top running a blog dedicated entirely to posting cute pics of sweet old dogs in a shelter for a year and gradually becoming one of the most recognized blogs on the website, then without warning dropping “i just want to get dicked down again =/” with 0 explanation and abandoning the blog. not deleting it, not explaining anything, just leaving the whole thing as a monument. fucking flawless posting. literally the best of all time.

<3<3<3 to everyone who has so eloquently explained their hurt, thank you and I’m sorry. You have handled this with honestly astonishing grace.
It wasn’t right that dark james started in the first place. It wasn’t right that people joked about the fact that it was a nazi parallel. It wasn’t right that the people who were most hurt had to shoulder the burden of explaining why all the rest of that wasn’t right. It wasn’t right that white, unharmed people including me didn’t have to shoulder as much of that burden. But it’s really FUCKING despicable that they’re still being forced to do this work 3 days out when the #1 goddamn thing anyone has asked for is that dark james content stay the hell out of their lane.
Stop asking for more from them and READ. They have BEEN having this conversation for days straight. They have BEEN explaining the answers to every single question you’re asking. STOP asking marginalized people to reexplain their hurt, and go read the times they already have.
And hey! if you still don’t understand, I’m a white jewish girl who hasn’t been personally hurt, and my DMs and anons are open. Clare, Kat, and Suze have asked you to please, for the love of God, leave them alone. If you are going to keep yelling at someone in this fandom, yell at me. You won’t even have to make a burner account to do it :)
if anyone was wondering how the three most outspoken voices about this issue have been treated the past few days:
we’ve all had to turn off anon because of separate bouts of ad hominem vitriol
we’ve been told explicitly and repeatedly that everyone in Jily fandom hates us, are talking about how they wish we would shut up behind our backs, and that people no longer want us in the space/we’re not welcome
we have had our identities denied, ridiculed, and weaponized against us in order to manipulate us into thinking we’re making things up and there’s no issue
we’ve been told “well you should/could have been nicer about XYZ and maybe people would have listened to you” when discussing..our own feelings of discomfort
we’ve had to reiterate and re-explain these issues countless times to people who don’t want to listen
we’ve seen people staying silent when asked to interject and step up; paradoxically, people center themselves when asked to listen to marginalized voices. the isolation of that really can’t be overstated.
I can’t speak for anyone but myself here but I’m just tired. and I know people don’t want to hear about this anymore—I don’t want to keep talking about it. trust me, I would love to go back to posting content for everyone and interacting with stories and using this space as an escape from real life. but I can’t do that—WE can’t do that—until the appropriate boundaries are in place.
please support marginalized voices now that the dust is starting to settle; we’ve been through the ringer as it is.

Hello
I was wondering which of your stories have a desi James?
hello!! almost all of my fics include a desi james (half, on euphemia's side) even when not mentioned explicitly (though there's usually some mention of brown skin). the one exception, off the top of my head, is Take Two, where james is half-greek and white.
however, a fic where I explicitly refer to/incorporate james's indianness is You're Worth Splinching For, in which he is half-Marathi! despite me not being Marathi LOL
one of these days I will write something in which I can properly explore his identity as indian! and when I do, you best believe I'll never shut up about it!
until then, I recommend these amazing fics by authors who wrote desi!James:
blink three times by @thequibblah (and other assorted fics by her including the 700k word epic Come Together, for which this is an extra w/ negligible spoilers)
Nine Days - an adorable Navaratri WIP by @alstroemeriablack
everything by aheartcalledhome (including the "rewrite potter" series in which it's HP but jily lives and james is indian) but especially on james potter and his impeccable singing voice, which legit made me cry
although I have not read this yet, apparently @fetchalgernon and @ghostofbambifanfiction have written James in (The Completely Unwilling Participants on) The Bachelor as Indian!
tamilprongspotter and mashallahmangoes if you can find their work anywhere
bonn's Everybody Needs A Nervy B Now And Then, also have not read b4 but will read asap!
october31st1981 on FFnet and prongsmydeer on tumblr! there are a bunch of drabbles not on her FFnet on her tumblr
the lovely @jilyism and @alittlebitofeverything23, AKA mi and shreya!
As you can see, there are LOTS of fantastic authors who write an Indian James! Please shower their writing with love!
If you have written Indian James or know fics that have it, PLEASE put the links in the reblogs! Maybe this can become an Indian James masterlist 😂

Would you ever write Death Eater James?
Okay first of all could anyone kindly catch me up on this Death Eater James nastiness that is in discussion at the moment?? Because being largely out of the fandom I'm not totally sure what's happening and having searched the tag after getting this I'm still not getting a clear picture. I didn't even know that this was a thing until Bee mentioned having seen something about it on her birthday.
Second of all, fuck no I would not. I don't write canon fics in the first place and you think if I did I'd write James as a Death Eater of all things???? It's a repulsive and distressing concept. Full offence meant.

I know there’s a ton going on and I’m only seeing like 3% of it because I’m not on discord and I don’t follow a lot of the community back and forth, but I just wanted to say something about this “if you don’t like a fic, don’t read it!” defense that I’ve seen a whole lot, which seems to be completely missing the point that this is a COMMUNITY safety issue, not about a person’s personal safety reading one fic. Macro, not micro. Systematic, not incidental.
If there’s a fic/trope/genre that groups find truly hurtful (not simply a matter of LIKE, I might remind. Not a taste or preference. An actual feeling of dismissal and hurt), yes, they can just not read it. Sure. But if that same fic or group of fics is being discussed, is being celebrated, is being thrust in their face, it’s something larger than just “I won’t read it.” It’s a set of landmines they have to perpetually navigate. It’s a constant negotiating of your anger and discomfort vs. your enjoyment of the space in which this fic interacts, and the people that interact with it. And ESPECIALLY when those affected speak out and talk about the issue, to be dismissed and insulted and gaslit about jealousy and victimhood? That’s not a single fic issue. It’s not a single author issue. That’s a COMMUNITY ISSUE. The whole COMMUNITY has a safety problem. THAT’S what is being talked about here. Not preferences or kink shaming or correctly placed trigger warnings. See the larger picture when people are pointing it out.

Shout out to all of my non-POC, non-marginalized friends. (If you’re not sure if this applies to you, then it does.) There’s something that needs to be said.
Let’s talk about responding to being called out on your privilege
I know that this is an uncomfortable thing to do. It is. It sucks to be confronted with your own potentially problematic behavior and to have to answer for it. However, the way you respond matters.
A note before I begin: I refer to non-privileged position here as either POC, minority, or marginalized individuals. This isn’t meant to limit this to those groups, but to any individual in a less privileged position. I’m also trying to generalize problematic behavior, but please know this applies to racism, antisemitism, sexism, colorism, etc, etc. I apologize for the insufficiency of my words.
Let’s talk about what this post is not, first.
This is not a list of things that are or are not offensive (if such a list is possible, I wouldn’t dare to assume that I could make it). This is not a call out to specific people. (However, if you feel called out by this, then it probably is for you.)
I also wouldn’t presume to tell POC and marginalized individuals how they should respond. I’m also not an expert by ANY means, just a person who has observed some of the responses and how they went wrong. I’m absolutely open to corrections or discussion on this, within reason.
How do you respond to accusations?
1. Let your first reaction be silent.
The problem is that our society was built and created on problematic ideals, and those things are taught to us from the time we are little. That first gut reaction is your internalized bullshit. That anger that you feel at being called out is normal, but it should not be how you respond. Let that happen in the silence of your home, and not online.
2. Do not focus on the language used, but the intent of the message.
This is hard, I know. The thing is you can’t tone police this kind of thing. Marginalized individuals are approaching a situation with a whole history of privileged people lashing out to minorities. There’s also a power to be found in naming the hate against you. So if someone calls you or something you did privileged, racist, sexist, antisemitic, etc., even if it is in a tone of anger, you do not get to tell the speaker that they are wrong for their reaction. If you think it’s uncomfortable for you, please consider it a small insight into what marginalized individuals have dealt with their whole life.
3. Accept that you may have said something problematic, even if you didn’t mean it.
Here’s a confession: I’m a little bit racist. It’s internalized racism that is so engrained that I don’t even realize it’s happening. I never intentionally do it, but it’s that engrained reaction that I haven’t managed to completely erase. I work every day to confront these ingrained biases and to counteract them. (Now reread that and replace racism with other forms of privileged bias). So here’s my point: It’s completely possible that I could post something without realizing it’s problematic. If someone points it out, I try to acknowledge that instead of immediately fighting back. I’m not perfect, but I try to remember not to let my initial reaction be the one I act on (see point 1).
4. Take time to reflect.
This is the part that’s the hardest. You have to actually look at what you’ve done that has been pointed out as offensive. Reflect on it, especially if you’re not sure why it is offensive. It’s important to confront our biases and try to do better. I’m not saying you have to delete your work or stop writing, but you need to address why it could be problematic. But do some research. Acknowledge what you’re being told. Consider what an appropriate reaction should be. Take the time to educate yourself.
5. Apologize.
Even if you don’t agree. Even if you didn’t mean to do it. Even if it wasn’t intentional. Even if there are other people from the same marginalized community who don’t agree it was problematic. Because the thing is… no person is a monolith for their community. We all have different experiences, and just because something harms one member of a community does not mean it does not hurt other community members. You should still apologize. You see, I have a toddler, and right now, we are working on “you have to apologize when you hurt someone, even if it was an accident.” I think some people here could use that message too.

Once again, I can't believe this needs to be said, but I have 0 tolerance for Nazi sympathising romance in fandom. Get that shit far away from me. So fucking done with POC and Jewish voices being silenced. Feel free to reblog if you agree 🙃

I don’t have a lot to add and I don’t think my voice should be at the front here anyway, except to say that as a white woman who has caused harm and then had to come to terms with that in the past, I know that some peoples first reaction might be to get defensive. If you’re feeling that way, Get Off Tumblr. Get Off Discord. Get the FUCK off anon. People are saying your actions have harmed them. If you aren’t ready to hear that Do Not Argue. Get Out of this space until you are ready to think and talk in a way that will not cause more harm than has already been done. Then come back and say you’re sorry.
a lot of you might feel that some of these conversations surrounding race and nazis are out coming out of the blue, I know that I wasn't aware of just how big a space they were taking up in people's hearts and minds until a few days ago, but just because we weren't aware that a group of people have been hurting, doesn't mean that when we see them speaking out about it, it hasn't been bothering them, or that they just want to 'virtue signal'
We all need to listen, and if we're uncomfortable while we're listening, then we probably need to listen even more.
when people tell you something hurt them, stop taking it as an attack or a criticism against you personally. don't contribute to making these topics more difficult to talk about.

Just wanted to clear this thing up
Friendly reminder that if I haven’t answered your ask the same day, it means either:
I want to treasure that ask forever
I dont feel up to social interaction
I didnt have time, and ended up forgetting about it
What it does NOT mean:
I dont like getting asks
You’re bothering me by sending asks
SAME APPLIES FOR UNANSWERED TAG GAMES!
