My interpretation of the project movement; was exploring different aspects of movement : (a) elegant and (b) inelegant. To express this effectively I decided to illustrate these movements through a ballerina. I experimented with colour, texture, pattern, form, 2D and 3D.
As reference, I compared ballet movements - with a focus on ‘The Mistake Waltz’.
I really enjoyed this project as it allowed me to further explore 3 electives.
I used lines to mark out my areas and then filed in the base colours; then I could merge the respective areas to form individual objects. In the way I could keep everything separate so I could add colour and shade efficiently. As a final step I went over the entire piece with a layer of shading at 27% opacity.
In the café you can see the layered objects as I continue the process.
I was looking back on my Tumblr and realised I never followed up with my stop motion paper puppet. Here is my more polished version. My slap sound was the work of my hitting my arm several times for the right sound......
During my walk I noticed the reflections of the town on the canal.
I brought them into Photoshop and experimented with lighting and filters. I wanted to blue Blennerville into dappled light- with the render filter I feel I was able to do this.
I was advised to separate my images more throughout my Tumblr, so I’m going to do that for some.
Today I attended Mary and Elaines live studio. We worked with markmaking (translating to 2D marks and 3D forms). I focused on 3D forms as my project is lacking it.
l completed all the ceramic tasks by making 3D.
My tissue ruffles . . .experimenting with different folding, edges and height .
l was struggling to make ruffles(tutu).Elaine recommended using finer/softer paper and folding it. We also discovered the great power of "The Circle" TM . I found my hole punch so I placed my ruffle segments on a stick to free up a hand.
* * I think if I did my stick ruffles with the tissue it would create the perfect ruffle.
So l decided to give paint a go! with a large piece of brown paper (That there is no proof that I nabbed), l followed along to 'Just Dance'. I blocked off several parts with newspaper and masking Tape-*warning: do not dance on paint slicked paper without being prepared for any possible casualties*
Inspired by my workshop with Mary ,and with reference from ‘The Mistake Waltz’ I created positive and negative interpretations ; I used masking, the magic wand and the classic brush and eraser.
I attended Pauls Q&A and Marys Tutorial today and I feel like it really benefitted me to hear their ideas etc. I found out that you can use ceramic as a printing material for stamps, lino etc. which I really like the idea of. I like interdisciplinary approaches the most so discovering ways to overlap disciplines is always exciting for me. I have some air drying clay out in my shed that I want to do some markmaking experiments on.
I’ve become very fond of illustrating the movement of the clothes on ballerinas as then basifying the actual physical movement.
I finally got around to making my own tools. I really enjoy the effect of markmaking on paper - especially brush no.3.
Some work I did for animation today. Gonna work on the transition's more. I blocked out the background with a colour I knew wasn’t going to be in the figure and began to block in the forms. I began with ‘’bubble figures’’ with enclosed empty shapes; then I converted them to symbols to test the animation. Then I would break apart the symbol and repeat after making any necessary changes/ adding details. I created the head in this way. I drew the head once and then made it a symbol ; then for each frame I could just add the symbol from my library into the scene, break it apart, and transform it as I needed. I created the car and back background on a separate layer so the car could be on a different plane, I once again did several renditions of ‘break apart-edit-symbol-test-break apart’ until I was happy with how the car looked; then it was as easy as adding a motion tween.
I’m gonna so some stencilling tomorrow inspired by the shapes made in the animation/storyboard etc.
further exploring mark-making in paper, introducing colour and mixing positive and negative of different compositions. I added ash dust to my white paper because it was too distracting.
