Alexis was pretty certain her friend was avoiding her. It was subtle and most people won't believe it's happening, but knowing Lily since they were five, she picked up on the girl's habits and knew them like the back of her hand. The eighteen-year-old was also sure when it started. It was the day after that incident.
It was something she, herself, wanted to talk with Lily about. She wanted to sort the matter out before "anything like this happens," she thought. A sigh escaped her lips as she watched the other girl disappear in the house next door.
--
"I can't lose her," was all Alexis was thinking as she carefully cross the made-up bridge from her bedroom's balcony to Lily's later that night. It was built by their parents when they were ten and they've been sleeping in each other's bedroom since. Alexis felt the wind and involuntarily shivered from its coldnesss. In her rush, she forgot to bring a jacket with her. In her defense, this was a bigger matter than the possibility of getting sick. In a careful but a bit hurried steps, she finally made it to the other side. Breathing in deep, she raised her right hand to knock and let the girl know of her presence. She's determined to get her friend back, "even if we only stay that way. Friends."
She almost screamed when the curtain parted from the inside revealing Lily in her pyjamas. The girl opened the balcony door letting Alexis in. "You know you can use the front door," she said. "That old as heck bridge might fall anytime soon."
Alexis let out a chuckle. She was glad Lily was still talking to her albeit the distance the said girl established. She was still standing near the door and Lily kept her distance by standing beside her bed, looking at her with conflicted yet expectant eyes.
"Lily, can we talk?" she started. Lily on the other hand, nodded, waiting for her to continue. She took a step forward wanting to get closer to the girl she was missing for more than a week now.
"Please don't." Lily's words were so sudden and sharp, Alexis was sure she felt a stab on her chest as she halted. "Alexis, I..." panic was written on Lily's face as she realized what had happened.
"It's okay, Lily," Alexis smiled at the girl in an attempt to reassure her, "I understand."
It seemed to be effective as Lily smiled back. The tension between them lowering down. "Thank you Alexis," Lily started, "and I'm sorry."
Alexis nodded and waited for her to continue.
"I'm sorry for kissing you."
That's it. The thing Alexis wanted to talk about. She was glad it was Lily who opened the conversation letting her know that it's okay to talk about it, to talk about the thing that mattered the most. Especially for her.
"Do you..." Alexis took a breath. Lily's answer to the question she will ask would make or break her. But she decided, whatever her answer was, she will accept it. 'As long as I can be beside her'
"Do you want us to forget it happened?" Alexis asked, bracing herself for a 'Yes' but was surprised to see and hear a different response from the girl.
A rushed and a bit loud 'No' came out from Lily's lips and Alexis was stunned to even respond. The lack of response caused Lily to babble even more.
"I know we have watched the sun set a million times before and somewhere in between, I may have fallen in love with you. I just... I don't think I want to forget how beautiful and serene you looked with your eyes closed. I don't want to forget the content smile on your face while the last rays of the sun hit you. I don't wanna forget how your lips..." Lily stopped as she realized she had confessed her feelings without even thinking about it. She looked up and saw Alexis looking at her with adoration she wouldn't dare acknowledge.
A step, and another, followed by a couple more, and Alexis was closer to where Lily was. Closer to realizing the things she only dreamed of might become her reality too.
"Is that why you're avoiding me?" Alexis softly asked. It was so soft, Lily wouldn't have heard it if it wasn't for their proximity. The latter thought she was subtle, but of course, she was Alexis. She would've noticed.
Lily nodded in affirmation, expecting Aexis to flat out reject her. Instead, she heard the girl chuckle. "Lily, look at me."
And she did. She braved herself to look at the girl she loves and to her surprise, Alexis was already looking at her, a soft smile painted on her lips.
"You don't know what you do to me, do you?" Alexis asked. "Everytime I look at you, I see you more than just my best friend. I see a person whose hand I want to hold, secrets I want to protect, love I want to share," Her smile grew wider with each word, "Everytime I look at you, I see my future."
Alexis offered her hand and Lily gladly took it. The former guided the latter's hand to their chest, right above where the heart was and Lily felt the loud thump of Alexis' heartbeat. Just like her own.
"Be my girlfriend?"
"Of course."

Lost in your eyes
How can a stupid, "so in love" song break one's heart
---
"I get lost in your eyes and I feel my spirits rise. And soar like the wind..."
Alexis found herself smiling at her reflection. Today was a big day and the outfit she was wearing was perfect for it. An elegant flowing gown that hug her curves right. Her phone beeped and as if on cue, a silly grin was plastered on her face upon knowing who it was.
Lily.
I can't wait to see you!
She giggled. It has been eleven years and the girl still has the same effect on her. She remembered how confusing it was when she first noticed how different she was acting around Lily and how she felt relief finally knowing it was love she was in.
After sending her reply, she did some last minute checking and proceeded to the venue. It's an hour drive from where she was. Deciding that she needs some distractions for the sort of long drive, she turned the car stereo on and played the song she's been practicing for a while now. A song that she promised herself to sing to the person she loves.
"I get weak, in a glance. Isn't this what's called romance?"
Alexis arrived a little over an hour. Traffic was not that bad except for a few hiccups here and there. She was greeted with a small crowd of peope. Some were new faces and others were the ones close to her heart. Clearly, the event haven't started yet. She tried looking around for the familiar set of eyes she has grown to love when a tap on her shoulder grabbed her attention. She immediately bowed in recognition when she realized who it was, Lily's
The man let out a chuckle and jokingly reprimanded her for the formal greeting saying that he considers Alexis as one of his own. They were in the middle of a quick catch up when a voice so familiar called her name. Alexis felt everything around her was in slow motion when their eyes met. A familiar flutter in her chest made itself known and that can only be caused by the person walking towards her. Lily looked so beautiful with her black gown. A slit on the dress accentuating her long legs responsible for her height. A gentle squeeze on her arm pulled her out of her trance right before Lily practically tackled her for a hug. She took a glance on the girl's father who returned a gentlle fatherly smile at her. She smiled back knowing full well what the smile meant. After tonight, it's time to let go.
"I don't mind not knowin' what I'm heading for. You can take me to the skies"
"Alexis! I'm nervous!"
"I know."
"Alexis!"
"Ouch! No need to hit me!"
"I'm nervous! What if I stutter? Oh my god, what if my mind goes blank while I'm speaking and the spotlight's on me on that stage and I—"
"Look at me. Breathe in. Breathe out."
"Thanks."
"If it helps, I'm right behind you on that stage. Well, not really behind but like... a little over to the right, by the piano."
"Pff. Okay, you dork."
"Now that's better. Keep that pretty smile of yours, Lily."
"It's like being lost in heaven."
'She's so stunning.' It was the only thing in Alexis' mind while she watch Lily address the crowd. She was waiting for her cue to play the song she's put her heart onto but got distracted by the girl in from of the stage. Lily then looked at her after god knows how long and it took half a second for Alexis to realize that that was her cue to start playing.
So she did. She did not dare open her eyes as she heard some gasp from the crowd. She knew what was happening anyways so she focused on playing and singing the song. Every memory associated with it came crashing as she try to brush them all aside. She can't let her voice falter. Not now. Not ever.
She sang for herself and for her, for the girl she loves most. Every melody filled with emotions she cannot and will not tell. Gathering enough courage, she opened her eyes while singing the last line and looked at Lily... lost in someone else's.

a game of jenga
'Lily! Just reminding you of our shoot tomorrow. You don't have to wear anything fancy. Just go with what you're comfortable with, alright? See you!'
Lily smiled upon reading the message. She mentally took note of what were her available clothes in her closet that's suitable for the shoot tomorrow. Unable to contain her excitement, the girl— who said she was dead tired a few minutes ago— got up and decided to prepare the clothes for tomorrow. She was lucky enough to find part-time jobs she actually enjoyed that they didn't really affect her studies that much. Lily was a college student and a part-time model and YouTuber in between.
Youtube. Lily never imagined herself doing videos on that site. Yes, she's used to the camera but those ones took pictures of her, not videos. What made her accept the offer aside from the pay and the flexibility of the schedule was the challenge. They will never know what they will shoot and were only advised on what to wear or bring, like what the show's director sent earlier. It kept Lily on edge and the thrill fueled her. She was not one to back out of a challenge.
Feeling her adrenaline wind down, Lily stifled a yawn as she hung the outfit she chose. She let out a tired yet satisfied smile before treading back to her bed. Her tired brain and body demanded sleep as the events of the day, mainly her just finished final exams started sinking in. She let herself succumb to a much-needed sleep.
"Good morning, Lily!" A few other heads turned in her direction as she walked inside the room. It was still quite early when she arrived, she noted, looking at the crew doing final touches and preparations for the shoot.
"You're early." A smiling burly man made his way to her.
"Good morning to you too, Josh, and no, I'm always early. You know that."
He laughed. "I know! I'm kidding. Anyway, there's breakfast on the snack bar. You know where to find it right?" Lily nodded in response. "By the way, nice outfit today. Trying to impress your co-host, I see."
Lily already knew he's kidding by the playful glint in his eyes. They're always like this anyway. Joshua's one of the directors of the show and a good friend of hers. He was three years her senior so it was quite a mystery for people who don't know them how they're so close with each other and exchange playful banters like this. The thing is, they were club-mates and Joshua was an active alumnus helping out a few of his club-mates and college juniors every now and then. Yes, Joshua attended the same university and college Lily is currently in.
Apparently, the show's other director, Yuri, heard the last statement and gave her a knowing look. She stuck out her tongue in their direction causing them to laugh once more before continuing back to their task at hand. Lily made her way to the snack bar taking in all her options. Glancing on her watch, she opted for the Iced Americano considering the amount of time she have left.
Thirty minutes. She noted as she took a seat on one of the empty chairs. Sipping her coffee while looking at the scene before her, she thought of what Joshua have said. 'Co-host? I was not informed I will shoot with someone today.' Lily became slightly hyperaware and mentally took note of what she's wearing: a light blue cuffed long sleeve blouse and black tight pants partnered by her square toe white heels and white handbag. 'Nah. Not bad,' she thought. 'Just enough for the shoot.'
A movement from her right caught Lily's attention. It seems that the person was also a bit surprised to find Lily there. Both nodded to acknowledge each other's presence before continuing on with what they were doing. Lily, on the other hand, was preoccupied with thoughts of that person after the encounter. Her simple yet very comfortable outfit unknowingly made an impact on her: a plain gray sweatshirt and denim pants partnered by what seems to be a mid-cut white Nike Air Force 1 and a black baseball cap. Casual but comfortable. Lily took note. 'Too bad she's wearing a mask. She felt familiar.'
'I was right. She was familiar.' It was all Lily could think about when she got back to the shooting area and saw the girl from before, now, without the mask. She tried to maintain her composure albeit the sudden increase in her heart rate.
He saw Joshua and Yuri from behind the camera gave her a knowing smile while she was ushered by one of the staff to the only table in the set. The girl stood up and gave a bow, greeting her. She did the same and proceeded on sitting on the only available seat.
She gave the two a subtle glare while thinking of ways to get away with murder with all these cameras around.
Yuri broke the silence before Lily could ever ponder at the thought. "The shoot starts in ten minutes but since you both are here, I wanna start rolling the camera. Is that okay with you?"
Both nodded as a response.
"Alright! Rolling in three, two, and one."
"Hello everyone! I'm Alexis." the girl, Alexis, started cheerfully. This caught Lily and the rest of the crew by surprise.
"Wait, wait, wait, I didn't know we'll start already!" Lily, still surprised, mentioned. This resulted in an eruption of laughter from the crew and a shy smile from Alexis.
"Oh yeah sorry, I forgot to tell you how we usually go with this series. We usually give time for our hosts to get acquainted albeit briefly. Sorry, Lily." Yuri informed. Lily came down from her own surprised bubble just in time to see Alexis pout. 'Cute.'
Gathering her thoughts, Lily raised her hand. Joshua snickered but kept his teasing at bay. "Yes, Lily?"
"I think we can start now if that makes her comfortable," she suggested. Alexis flashed her a grateful smile.
Joshua and Yuri nodded.
"Let's start again, shall we?" Lily told Alexis who nodded in return.
Yuri on the other hand gave them the cue to start.
"Hi everyone! I'm Alwxis. Nice to meet you!"
"I'm Lily! Hello everyone!"
"Do you have any idea of each other?" Yuri asked from behind the camera.
"I actually know Alexis," Lily started. This caused Alexis to look at her. "One of her videos is on the top of our channel," she paused looking back at the girl. "What? It is!"
Alexis laughed gently, "I know. I'm just surprised." She turned back to Yuri.
"I knew Lily," Alexis paused. "Well, not personally." She took a glance at the girl beside her looking at her curiously. "So technically, we're still strangers. We met just now."
"Five minutes. We've been trying to know each other for five minutes now." Lily added and again, caused an uproar of laughter from the two directors and the crew but her attention was on Alexis and her smiling eyes.
"Well, yeah. You're technically correct," Yuri said after she had calmed down. "So, got any ideas on what we're gonna shoot today?"
At the mention of the shoot, a tall, white, rectangular box was placed on the table in front of the two.
Lily laughed, "I might have an idea. It's the most requested one, right?" She looked at the girl beside her and saw that she was still clueless.
"What is it?" Alexis asked until it dawned on her. "Jenga? Like what GD and Vi did?"
Yuri on the other just gave a smile.
Returning the smile, Alexis glanced at the girl beside her. "This is gonna be fun."
Lily smiled. "Same thought."
'Strangers Play Jenga for Couples'
Alexis and Lily listened as Yuri explained the game mechanics. It was no different from a regular jenga game but some of the blocks have questions or dares that either of them has to answer or do. They will be doing 'best of three' and whoever wins gets one 'wish' aside from the wish they'll get after each round. They both nodded in acknowledgment and proceeded on playing rock paper scissors to determine who's gonna have the turn first.
And it was Lily which in turn made Alexis poke her tongue on her inside cheek to jokingly portray she was annoyed. 'Again, cute.'
Lily carefully pulled one of the blocks from the middle of the tower and smiled upon seeing Alexis' expectant eyes landing on her.
"I got a question!" Lily said. "Ooohh this is too good. Are we really starting with this?" She asked Yuri.
"Please read the question for us." Said Yuri.
'Have you ever reused a dating spot?'
Alexis let out a laugh. "Hey, Yuri! Why was that the first question?" Yuri just raised both of her hands.
"Alexis' exes! Are you watching?" Lily then let out a laugh.
"Hey!" Alexis whined. "But I did reuse dating spots." Alexis gave Lily a cheeky grin. "There's nothing wrong about that though!"
"I have to agree on that. I mean, they're just dating spots." Lily added while stacking her block up the tower.
"My turn! My turn!" Alexis excitedly exclaimed. It was a quick millisecond but Lily was sure Aexis has become more endearing to her eyes.
The girl proceeded on taking out a block and immediately stacking it on the top of the tower, not a minute after.
"It's blank." She pouted.
"Guess it's my turn." Lily proceeded to pull a block out. "I got another one." Lily showed the block with the printed question to the camera then proceeds to read it.
'When was your first kiss?'
"We're not talking about a kiss on the cheek here, Alexis." Lily quickly added.
Alexis laughed. "That's counted as a kiss!"
"No. For it to be a kiss, it should have tongue action," Lily informed. "Snake~"
Alexis couldn't help but laugh at the girl's antics. Feeling her heartbeat quicken a little bit, she answered the question. "I was," she paused, "Fifteen, I think." She looked at the camera and waved. "Hello to the first person I kissed!"
Alexis and Lily laughed at the same time.
"Stack your block so I can get my turn," Alexis said and Lily obliged. The former pulled out another block and it turns out to be another blank one. Pouting, she stacked the block standing up.
"Hey! You stacked yours dangerously." Lily exclaimed.
"I keep getting blanks. It's not fair."
Calming herself down from laughing, Lily proceeded on taking her turn. "Another question." She said after successfully pulling it out. "Have you ever used fake ID?"
It seemed to have brought back memories to the other girl as she laughed. "Never. But I have to walk around with a copy of my birth certificate though because they don't believe my ID or my age! I can't even buy liquor, you know."
Lily nodded in understanding. One can easily mistake Alexis as a high school student because of how young she looks. She then proceeded on stacking her block carefully as to not stumble the block Alexis put earlier.
It was Alexis' turn. She proceeded on getting a block on the same layer Lily got hers. She's playing dangerously now, Lily thought. But then, as if luck was not on her side, she picked out another blank block.
"This is a bummer!" She whined. "I'm starting to think I'm cursed or something. That's three in a row!" She stacked hers on top of her other block which stood upwards.
Lily analyzed the tower in front of her. "Why do you have to get one from the same layer?" She whined. It's getting harder as she also has to think about the mess of stack Alexis made. 'I'm gonna lose this one.'
"So... about my wish..." Alexis started as Lily tries to focus on the game. The latter knows that Alexis was just trying to distract her and make her lose focus...which she ultimately succeeded when Lily miscalculated and bumped one of the blocks when she was pulling one causing the mess Alexis made above to topple.
They both laugh at their predicament.
"Alexis, you get a wish this time," Yuri said. "For someone who pulled blanks...that's something."
Lily expectantly looked at Alexis who was now grinning. "My wish..." she paused, "For you to look at the camera and pretend you're the finest in the land."
That's an uncommon request, Lily thought. But she still proceeded. Zoning out and focusing on that request was easy for the girl having modeled for local magazines. She looked at Yuri's camera and did what was requested. Alexis on the other hand silently hoped that no one was looking at her while this all happens because indeed, Lily was the finest in the land.
Unbeknownst to Alexis, two pairs of eyes were watching her reaction closely. The pairs met each other and a nod was given. Oh, it's on.
The shoot was filled with laughs as the game continued. While Alexis kept on getting blank blocks, Lily on the other hand kept getting the ones with questions. The tower was almost toppled down when Alexis suddenly stood up, bumping the table along the way. With a small squeal, she said, "I finally got one!"
"Calm down and take a seat!" Lily said while laughing, tugging the girl a bit farther from the table. Alexis eventually did as she excitedly read what was written on the block.
'What do you think of me?'
"What is this? Why is this block trying to flirt with me?" Alexis asked Yuri with a laugh. Lily on the other hand was silently smiling, trying to calm down by reminding herself that technically, she and Alexis just met.
"It's Jenga for Couples, Alexis. What do you expect?" Yuri answered laughing.
"Well, I was expecting weird ones to pop out considering how weird you can be." The girl fired back. Their bickering somehow helped Lily in calming herself down. Gaining her composure back as if nothing happened, she subtly glanced around trying to see if someone has caught on her mini panic. She then looked at Alexis who playfully rolled her eyes at Yuri. Lily smiled at her when their eyes met automatically painting a smile on Alexis' face as a result.
"So, what do you think of me, Lily?" Alexis asked.
"Oh, uhm," Lily started. Avoiding eye contact, she stammered, "Pretty."
A shy "Oh" came out of Alexis' lips coupled with an equally shy smile "Thank you". Lily however, did not seem to register the response and exclaimed, "You're very pretty!"
This caused Alexis to giggle uncontrollably along with the rest of the crew. Yuri and Joshua on the other hand were having a field day as it was so rare for Lily to lose her composure nowadays. 'But of course, it's Alexis', Yuri thought.
She and Joshua had planned this since their first video with GD and Vi. The three of them were friends way before Lily started working on the channel so it was no secret to them that Lily had a little crush on one of their channel's main stars for quite some time now. What Lily didn't know was that the feelings were actually mutual.
A not-so-subtle nudge pulled Yuri off of her thinking. She immediately looked at the source and saw Joshua, eyes wide with excitement, as if pleading her to look at the people they're shooting right now.
"Why are you hiding the block? Now, I'm suspicious!" Alexis blurted.
Lily ignored her question and continued hiding the block from the girl. She then looked at Yuri while trying to show her what was written on the block and asked, "Why is it like this?"
Yuri laughed and said, "Jenga for Couples, remember?"
"What does it say?" Alexis asked.
'Sit on their lap'
Lily was a bit confused as to what the instruction meant. "So she has to sit on my lap right?" she said while pointing at Alexis. "Or is it the other way around?"
"Whatever works for you guys," Joshua answered.
"Alright," Alexis responded while turning her face to look at Lily. "I'll be the one seating if that's okay. I don't think people will see me if it's the other way round. You're kinda tall!" she told the girl. That earned a laugh from everyone.
"Okay. Come here."
They finally found a comfortable position after a few seconds of trying to figure it out. "Oh wow, this... why is it so comfortable?!" Alexis exclaimed. Lily has her arms securely around her unknowingly swaying her gently from side to side. "I feel like I'm not sitting on her lap but is becoming more of her baby." After a few seconds, she whined, "I know I'm not that tall but why am I being treated like an infant?"
Everyone burst out laughing at that.
--
The game continued. Now the two of them are tied at one and the situation was getting intense. Alexis was getting a block from the tower, careful to not tumble it down and lose. Alexis on the other hand, was teasing her. Both of them knew that if Lily loses this one, it's a win for Aexis.
"Yah! Don't move too much!" Lily said.
Alexis raised both of her hands as if to tell her she's innocent. "I'm not even touching the table. All I'm doing is that I'm saying, if the tower falls down, my wish is—"
Alexis wasn't able to finish her sentence when the tower fell on its own, right after Lily got her block piece.
"What? No fair!" Lily exclaimed. Alexis was laughing along with the crew. "Stop laughing, Alexis!" she added while she faked being sulky.
"And I thought I was cursed for getting blank blocks," Alexis said. "Was the block even worth the concentration?"
Lily grabbed the block she pulled and with a pout, she said, "No, it was blank".
They both laughed at their predicament.
"And that's a wrap! Thank you for joining us today Alexis." Yuri said while approaching their table.
"I should be the one thanking you and Joshua. I had fun!" Alexis then looked at Lily beside her and smiled. "I also got a new friend." Lily smiled in response.
Yuri wanted to tease the two but held it back. 'There's a proper time for that,' she thought. She's just glad that their mission was a success. 'I wonder how they will react once they know.' She smiled. 'Maybe I don't wanna know.'
"Alright ladies, I'm sorry but I have to go and help Joshua," Yuri told the pair. "Look at him already transforming into a bear." The three of them directed their attention to the said bear and started giggling. Indeed, Joshua's starting to transform and it's starting with his eyebrows that's so close together he looked like a grumpy bear.
"We don't wanna hold you too long, Yuri. It looks like fume's gonna come out of Joshua's nose anytime soon." Alexis giggled. "You better go now. We'll be off in a bit too anyways."
"Alright, I'll see you guys around. Take care." Yuri said as both parties waved goodbye. After Yuri left, Lily turned to Alexis and asked, "We're going somewhere?"
"Well, uhm..." Alexis was flustered. She didn't even know if Lily has plans or if the girl was really comfortable around her yet here she was, so sure that Lily would agree with her. Looking down, she continued, "I was planning to ask you for a late lunch? That is, if you don't have any plans right after the shooting."
Alexis wasn't aware of the blush that made its way on Lily's face and it took a while for the latter to answer so Aexis assumed that there were plans already made. "It's okay though," she added. Now looking at Lily. "Maybe next time?"
A smile made its way to Lily's lips as her brain caught up with the invitation. Putting her hand on Alexis' arm, she said, "You better know a place where we can eat delicious stuff. Let's go?"
Alexis smiled back, "Yes, let's."
