There was no whip, and yet, for a moment, she had thought that she could hear its crack at the end of each sentence that he spoke. Perhaps the whip would have been kinder to her than his words had been. She opened her mouth to protest to defend herself against the onslaught, but his anger drove the words from her tongue until the only sound that escaped her mouth was a soft groan, followed by a low sniffle as her tears started to flood. He had never spoken to her like this. Others, certainly. Never to her though. Never. Until now. Only father spoke to her like this. How alike they sounded now.

He bid her to leave, and though she would have happily run from there, she found her feet rooted to the spot as tears streaked down her face until she could only see the shape of her brother looming before her. Had he grown taller? Or did she simply feel that much smaller. She curled in on herself, as if she could protect herself from the blows of his words when he had always been her shield.

Ultimately, the choice to leave was removed from her. The door closed behind him, breaking her from her trance. Aurora took half a step forward, as if recovering herself after a fall. Her fingers raked over her collarbone and this seemed to help her recover too. She never wanted to feel like this. Not ever again. Tristan was strong. Niklaus was strong. Everyone was stronger than her. Aurora had her strength too, but not like them. They could all hurt her any thousand of ways. No more. No. More. If Niklaus would not make her like him of his own will, then she would force his hand.

The ending? No, of course not. The beginning? That was a question that Aurora dreaded. She did not regret where they were, but she would hate for him to know what the few changes she would make to their path were. It ought to have been Niklaus that had turned her. She ought to have made Tristan. Perhaps he would have been better prepared for Elijah if he had not been new to this immortal life. It was impossible to change the past, so Aurora did not wish to give it further thought. "Tristan, who says that anything has ended?" she cooed, her hand brushing over his cheek. He needed a shave, but Aurora would not press that issue until the morning; she needed to deter Tristan from his chosen topic in other ways. She kissed him gently before pressing her forehead to his. "The night is young and when we look back on this moment centuries from now, I think we shall consider ourselves to be quite young in this moment."

Aurora disliked his tone. It was too confident. Too assured. It was as if he was drunk on his victory over Mikael, over Elijah. She especially disliked that he had not allowed Elijah's lover to fall in the battle. He'd allowed her to be saved too, and Aurora detested that. There were all of these new people in her home, handpicked by Elijah, sired by Elijah. Aurora did not like having them there. It was like she was being forced to lay down in a pit of snakes, and rather than offer her a helping hand from the pit, her brother was celebrating it all and belittling her fears. "Then perhaps I ought to leave you to handle her." Aurora sneered. She was a little drunk perhaps, but the buzz would not last for very long.

Leave her to be tended to by others as he undoubtedly tended to something that would be more important. What could be more important than her? He was forever going on and on about what she meant to him, and yet now he would leave her here. Alone. Well, not really, alone. The monks were there. They never talked to her. No one talked to her. Tristan barely answered his phone these days. She had become far too well acquainted with his voicemail of late. "The only one sabotaging me is you!"

He had used other curses as well (which was why Aurora was no longer in his penthouse), but he had not once claimed that Tristan had been wrong. She would sparkle in the light, perhaps blind a few people with the glare from the party lights on the crystals which would adorn every inch of fabric on her body. Still, she suspected that there was more to her present than a dress. She forced a contemplative expression on her face as she turned back to him. "I fear I cannot truly dazzle. There seems to be something missing." And that something was jewelry which, if she guessed correctly, currently awaited her in the velvet box shaped bulge in his jacket pocket.
