Sakamaki Brothers as Classic Paintings
I’m no art historian, but I appreciate all things art history and the evolution of styles, ideas and emotions that go into them. These are the 6 paintings that I personally think represent each brother.
1. Ayato - Napoleon’s Farewell to Josephine (or My Destiny and France Demand it) by Laslet John Pott (?)
Tumblr media
To me, Ayato feels like the embodiment of Napoleon Bonaparte. I was originally going to have his painting as the giant coronation one, but when I saw this, it’s more quiet, and a kind of behind-the-scenes look at royal life. It reminds me of a scenario where Ayato might leave Yui after sucking her blood. The look on his face says, “maybe I drank from her too harshly this time. She’ll sleep it off.” He has to act like a tough guy who thinks of Yui only as prey, but his face does convey that he cares for her.
2. Kanato - Girl with Death Mask (She Plays Alone) by Frida Kahlo (1938)
Tumblr media
Frida Kahlo painted this after a miscarriage. There’s something really innocent yet terrifying going on here. It feels isolated, vast and lonely. The two masks are strikingly different, much like Kanato. The one worn by the little girl is like his everyday face, but close by is the monster that’s easily interchangeable. I chose this one because the subject is a little girl - much like Kanato being the smallest of his brothers. Kanato acts like a child having a temper tantrum, which makes him all the more deadly. And that’s perfectly represented here, in my opinion.
3. Laito - In Bed, The Kiss by Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec (1892)
Tumblr media
You’d think it would be “The Origin of the World” by Gustave Courbet, but it’s too crude and doesn’t represent Laito as a whole. The image is simply a couple kissing in bed. A very natural state for the perverted and complicated vampire.
4. Subaru - The Wanderer Above the Sea of Fog by Caspar David Friedrich (1818)
Tumblr media
This is one of my favorite paintings of all time. It’s a lone man standing on top of a mountain looking at the vast scenery. This feels like Subaru in his quieter moments.
5. Reiji - Still Life: An Allegory of the Vanities of Human Life by Harmen Steenwyck (?)
Tumblr media
Reiji looks down on humans as a subspecies and lower than himself. So the title certainly fits him. The objects within are also him. This is simply my interpretation. The skull equals death, the books are his vast knowledge, the sword is his mastery of swordsmanship, the gold teapot (I think) is his love of tea, the urn vase could be his mother. The last item that represents him is the object in between the sword and flute. I think it’s a pocket watch. And we all know his father gave him that special pocket watch that shows the end of time.
6. Shuu - Vanitas with Violin and Glass Ball by Pieter Claesz (?)
Tumblr media
Obviously the violin is Shuu. It’s bright and right in the vocal point. Music is the only thing Shuu cares about anymore. The way the artist placed every object looks disorganized and sloppy (much like Shuu). I also really like the glass ball and you can see the artist painting himself. Reminds me the way Shuu doesn’t see himself as a whole being anymore, but an obstructed one not worthy of self respect or love.
And Bonus!
Yui Komori - The Nightmare by Henry Fuseli (1781)
Tumblr media
This one is the stuff of nightmares. Poor Yui just can’t catch a break. The woman looks exhausted and restless. The two demons (one on her torso, and the other lurking to come in) could represent any of the 13 characters from the world of Diabolik Lovers.
I hope you’ve enjoyed reading. Let me know if I should do the Mukami and Tsukinami brothers (+ Kino)

I have always wondered why that intoxicating beauty that just by looking into their eyes tells you to fall into the madness of the unclean.
- “Look Mr. Reiji, what do you think? it is a token of my appreciation for you. "
Reiji looked at the Young lady with a warm half smile and stroked the hair of the little girl who gently took his hand.
- "You really tried hard, you did a good job, Kagura."
Ahh, I admit, I can not with the beauty that are loaded automatically, is loved 😥🌷✨
