For the mods- how are your characters similar or different to you?
...
Thank you for the ask, mon ami!
Grantaire: i feel like i'm extremely similar to grantaire, before i even found Les Mis i was acting out my life exactly like he does in the brick. to this day i'm not nearly as active as the other Mods because i'm dealing with a lot of personal issues. I'm spending a lot of my time lately getting drunk and helping my local friends get out of my little reservation. I'm Plains Cree and it kills me to see everyone be so hopeless. all i want in the future is to see my people see value in themselves.
Babet: I don’t think I should actually admit to how similar Babet and I are.
Eponine: I’m fairly similar to Eponine, or at least my version of Eponine. I see Eponine as genderfluid, and yes that’s partly projection - but there is evidence for it in the book (Eponine repeatedly presents as male as well as female). I also love reading (Eponine is very proud of her ability to read in the book and likes showing off with it). I daydream a lot, and I love my siblings. I’m not exactly like Eponine, I don’t have the same experiences, but like Eponine, I dream of a better world. I’m not as brave as Eponine (I’m honestly a bit of a coward ha) but I admire their bravery. Like Eponine, I’d like to think I’d do anything for the people I care about.
Bahorel: In the brick Bahorel seems to be a kind of a social butterfly, he's like a link to other groups more than a known member of les Amis, and in the musical he doesn't even exists and it doesn't really affects anything, I feel I'm like that, for me is easy to connect with people in a superficial level but not feeling part of the group in a deeper sense, which isn't a bad thing because it's actually fun to just get along. I can be loud and easygoing. Also I feel we both got a sense of humour. I'm different tho in that I'm not as brave or bold , and I'm not *that* confrontative. But idk man, it's hard to say canonically with this characters we only get a few lines of, at the end most of it it's projection or straight up invented so who knows.
Javert: I don't think i'm very similar to Javert but i still have some of his attributes(or things i consider his attributes). I can be very very stuborn although not in a very negative fanatic way as him. I am passionate and can be dramatic as hell. Sometimes i can say very witty and dry sarcastic badass things. They are times that i seem weird when it comes to social interactions and sometimes i look restrained cold and closed (when i don't feel comfortable with some people) and i think he is too. Also my boy Javert is ace like me.It's just the facts.
Claquesous:

No.
Montparnasse: First of all, we’re both hot, jot that down. (We’re also vain, as you can see). Second of all, the line that described Montparnasse? “Gentle, effeminate, graceful, robust, weak, and ferocious”? ( Fahnestock and MacAfee translation). Yeah that’s me. We both like to be well-dressed and might or might not be willing to murder for nice clothes. To be fair, I’m nicer than he is and I am not exactly gonna... like... murder people for fun. (The 1%, on the other hand 👀). There was that one post about if you have a slider and you slide it from like, cute to dark you get Courfeyrac and Montparnasse respectively, I’m the whole spectrum of that :p I think our Feu is in denial how similar I am to parts of Montparnasse :p
Feuilly: Monty is not like Montparnasse- Monty is baby Montparnasse is not. On the other hand, I’ve shifted the characterization of Feuilly a bit over these past few years. Of course, I kept the hardworking and creative aspects (things I like to think that I am), but Mr. Thicctor Hugehoe didn’t give me much to work with. I simp for iced tea, just like Feuilly, I am also a fan of The Memes™, but I’m genderfluid and Feu isn’t! Also, I am not the sibling of our Monty 😔
Montparnasse: See, in denial ;) Also I have adopted you my dear. We are family by anything but blood.
Bossuet: I have taken to referring to my clumsy, accidentally self-harming daily nuisances as Bossuet-moments, if that explains anything? I am definitely prone to stupid, unlucky injuries and when I think things are going well, I can be pretty sure bad luck will spoil it. So there you go, check that off the list. Like Bossuet, though, I don't let it put me down permanently. I love my friends and I have gotten fairly good at getting my spirits up despite whatever doorframe I ran into or which favourite mug I dropped and scorched my feet. I'll be fine as long as my friends back me up.
Enjolras: I’m fairly similar to my character. I strive for equality and justice, I love my friends with all my heart, and I tend to take lead on things. There are places where I differ as well, but on the whole I feel Enj is the one I’m most similar to out of anyone in Les Mis.
Joly: I think I'm kind of like Joly! We're both known for being cheerful and optimistic, and I also use a cane to walk sometimes, which is part of why I love Joly! I also tend to write Joly as trans and I am too, and I love my friends very much, just like Joly!
Combeferre: The love of books and the tendency to always occupy the niche of the ‘Mom Friend’ are, I suppose, the most visible similarities. I have also been accused of spending too much on books, which is an outright lie, although, in the interests of transparency, my two most recent acquisitions did total £100+ and £62+ respectively.
I’m generally quite good at giving advice and am, at the risk of sounding arrogant, fairly intelligent. I can also be quite cutting with my words, although I’m rarely as polite as a simple “to be free”. I also share quite a lot of interests with Combeferre, both as he is in the book and in fanfiction. I’ve also somehow been infected with a love for moths and I hold everyone here completely and utterly responsible and am choosing to gloss over the fact that I have been obsessed with Mothra since I was a child.
I’m also relatively certain that I’m taller than most of this chaotic bunch.

This was a triumph. I’m making a note here: “Huge success.” It’s hard to overstate my satisfaction.

Feuilly: How did you find out anon
Bahorel: Neat evasion of the question!
Courfeyrac: A DATE?!?!?!?!??!?!?!?!?!?! WHY WAS I NOT AWARE OF THIS?!?!?!?!?!??!!??!!??!!?

Does anyone have a good pizza recipe?
Feuilly: BEHOLD! The pizza recipe of all pizza recipes.
YOU WILL NEED
Dough:
4 cups of bread flour
1.5 cups of room temp water
1.5 teaspoons of yeast
1.5 tablespoons of olive oil
Sauce:
2 14 Oz (normal size can) of UNSALTED diced tomatoes
Salt to taste
2 tablespoons of olive oil
Other:
Cheese of choice (preferably fresh mozzarella)
Preferred toppings (I like fresh basil)
MAKING THE PIZZA
FIRST THING FIRST- you gotta make the dough two days in advance to let it ferment and develop that good flavor and gluten.
Add the yeast to the water and let sit for five minutes before mixing it with the flour and oil.
Mix it until you can’t anymore then...
Knead it for as long as you can bear (or 10 minutes)
Let it sit on the counter at room temperature for 24 hours!
Then punch it down and throw it in the fridge until you’re ready to use it! Don’t leave it in there for too long, but mine lasted like. A week tops.
Now that we have the dough, we have to make the sauce! This is the easiest part (aside from eating the pizza). All you gotta do is drain the tomatoes and throw them in the blender with the oil and salt! Blend until you’re happy with the texture. I like mine a bit chunky.
After we have the dough and sauce, have gotten the cheese and toppings, and are hungry for the pizza, all we have to do is roll it out!
You’ll have plenty of dough. Divide it and roll it out to your preferred size, but make sure it passes the window pane test. All you have to do for that is hold it up to the light. If it’s thin but not breaking and you can see the light, you’re good! Slap that baby onto a pan or pizza stone and top it with the sauce, cheese, and toppings of your choosing!
To cook it, put it into the oven as hot as it can go or onto a grill. Cooking time depends on how hot, but keep an eye out for a crispy, golden crust. Mine takes 5-7 minutes in the oven and 10 on the grill.
After you take it out, let it cool for 5 minutes, cut into it, then enjoy!
Bahorel: Man today I tried a pizza with porkchops made in pan for all of you without an oven or that are just too lazy to use an oven and I must say it was hella good. Will never doubt YouTube again! (just put on YouTube Pizza on pan and choose whichever)
Bossuet: I’m told it's recommended to put in a pinch of sugar to activate the yeast, if you make it from scratch? Or was it salt? Yeah, I'm not allowed to cook anymore.
Feuilly: Don’t add salt to the yeast. It makes it unable to grow :(
Javert:  First step-You take your phone Second step-You open the delivery app
Marius: I tried to make my own pizza once but I couldn’t even get the dough right, but I didn’t want to waste it so I just threw everything on the mishaped half rolled out dough and ended up burning it all anyways. My advice is don’t be like me.

So uh...how are y'all dealing with the current world situation? Hope you guys are all safe.
Javert:  I used to think before all this that my coffee habits and sleeping schedule could not get any worse. I was mistaken.
Bossuet:  Well, I live with Joly. Our flat is very tidy and clean, I make sure he doesn't have to worry about the virus when he comes home from work. I call my friends but stay at home for him. Other than that, it's gaming and university home office for me.
Babet: I’m thriving.
Fantine: I am both at my most creative and my least creative. I have all these ideas, but no energy to actually execute these ideas.
Courfeyrac: Not seeing anyone is becoming harder by the minute, but I got my roomies and zoom premium, so I can cope. I finished school online earlier this month, so since I can't go back to work, I'm focusing on arts and crafts! I've started doing origami, and knitting, and I'm still learning how my new sewing machine works! We'll get through this! Wear a mask babes!
Grantaire: i'm not really coping great but i feel like things are going ok. i'm doing my best and i think that's all that matters
Eponine: Time is meaningless. Every day is the same. Keeping safe as much as possible, but urgh I wish people would just wear masks? Just be sensible. The sooner you wear a mask the sooner you get to stop listening to people telling you to wear a mask.
Bahorel: If it wasn't for social distancing I'd have punched so many unmasked jerks by now.
Marius: The only things keeping me sane are my 500 daily walks and my Netflix subscription. Sometimes I wonder what the point of quarantine is when you can literally see other people on your street having house parties and being stupid, but then I think the only thing stopping the world from total chaos are the people like us who still socially distance.
Enjolras: I’ve caught up on sleep, which Ferre is happy about. I miss seeing my friends, but we’ve all been taking still. Though, it also given me time to work on some things. I’m just glad to know that I’m doing my part by staying home. And if you do go out WEAR A MASK AND SOCIAL DISTANCE!!!

Leather or Denim jackets?
Bossuet: Leather. It's just versatile, waterproof and makes you look cool. Except for Joly, he always looks soft.
Babet: All my jackets are leather. If you pick denim over leather, you aren’t valid.
Combeferre: I mean between the two, leather is more effective what with it being waterproof, but personally I tend more towards jumpers or blazers.
Courfeyrac: Both babyyy! As to which I wear, it depends on if I feel like a badass bitch of a soft hippie🌼
Javert: Depents on which decade you want to look you just escaped.
Bahorel: I look great and kick ass in either. wink wink

Repost, for this lovely finals season we have reached! Good luck all! Mod-Fantine is cheering you on!
Some Uncommon Study Tips and Tricks that are Actually Practical
Some of us are coming up on finals, others of us have them in the future. Regardless your friendly uni-going Mod-Fantine has some personal tips and tricks for studying and school. Our Mod-Marius can attest to these tricks as he has used them. There are a lot of “tips” and “tricks” out there that say they can help but in reality, do very little besides giving the illusion of success. When the essay or test is on the line we need to get down to business!
*I am an American university (college) student. I tried to make my tips as broad as could so everyone in all grades/years could gain something from these tips.
Pomodoro technique
This technique is good for those of us who get distracted on our phones (aka all of us). Basically, it doesn’t matter how long you study, it only matters that when you are studying, you are only studying. So if you can study for 10 minutes without getting distracted, that’s great. It is better to get 10 minutes of good studying in than 10 hours of distracted studying. However long you study well for taking a short break after and then go back. I myself do 25 minutes with 10-minute breaks for math or science. English and anything with writing I do 45 minutes with a 10-minute break.
Focusing
This is a weird tip but if you have trouble focusing pretend you are in a movie. Pretend like there is a study montage. I know this is weird but it helps me and I have no idea why.
Handwriting your notes
My professor told me that you can absorb more of the material if you rewrite your notes in your least dominant language. Now, I am not bi-lingual so this seemed like a throwaway trick. But I found that cursive is my non-dominate writing form and found when I wrote my notes in cursive I had to focus on each word and therefore absorbed more.
Highlight could be bad
When reading something it may be tempting to just highlight sections. RESIST THE URGE! Highlighting feels good, it feels academic but it is an empty activity. What I do is when reading a book, I write notes either on a sticky note or on the book. Then when going back to find quotes I read my notes and easily find the quote. Then and only then do I highlight anything. Making notes/ summaries of each paragraph is far more useful than simply highlighting.
Writing and mechanics
Avoid adverbs! No one jogs quickly but they can run. No one walks heavily, they trudge. Get to the point and then get out. Don’t hum and haw, your reader does not want their time wasted. This is particularly important in university where professors will want academic writing. Creative writing is a different beast altogether, there you can use your lovely adverbs.
One writing tool that I use that is free is http://www.hemingwayapp.com/ . This site allows for you to copy/paste your writing in and then it will check for errors, passive voice and other writing no-no’s.
How to Write a Killer Intro to an Essay
I follow a simple formula with all of my essays. If you have trouble with intros I follow this scaffold.
Famed (PROFESSION), (Person’s name) in his/her (media type) “TITLE” asserts that… (THESIS).
Example: Famed author Victor Hugo in his novel Les Miserables asserts that people can change. Although, today the idea of change is not so strange in the 1800s the people believed no one could change for good. Examining cultural documents one can see this worldview and the impact it had on societal moral.
This is short and to the point. Professors and teachers rarely like to see rambling and “clearing your throat” paragraphs. Get in and get out.
Preparing for Class
Before going to class Wikipedia the author or topic. I cannot count the number of times a professor will ask about background even though it wasn’t assigned. Knowing just a little about the author or the context of the writing can go a long way in understanding the piece and showing your teacher that you are engaged
Connecting with your instructor
Some might call it brown nosing, kissing butt or polishing apples, but in reality, having a good relationship with your instructor is key! If you have a good connection that your teacher is more likely to move that B+ to an A-. Additionally, showing your engagement will also help if you need an extension. If you show that you know the material and are not just faking it, instructors are more likely to give you leeway. Success comes from what you do but also your grade hangs on by whoever is doing the grading.
These now are just general mental health tips during this stressful time.
Smart is a Bad Word!
When you study you are bound to come across a moment when you think “I’m not smart enough”. ERADICATE THIS WORD OUT OF YOUR MIND! Smart connotes innate skill. Very few of us come into this world initially skilled at a subject. Instead pride yourself on being hard-working. Hard-working is something you can get better at and improve on. Hard-working is directly correlated with what you do and the grade, any label you or anyone puts on you is just a label.
The Value of Failure
None of us are perfect, in fact, I recently got a C on a paper that I worked hard on. But in reviewing your papers I like to do an Author’s Response Feeback. Basically what you do is find one piece of criticism that your instructor left on your paper. Rephrase what they said in your own words, then find one example of this in your writing and explain why what you did was incorrect and how you can improve this point. When I say “improve” I don’t mean thinking ‘I’ll work on it longer’. On my last paper, I said, “I will improve upon narrowing the topic so that I do not have a lot of huge ideas existing without a payoff.”  We might not like to admit it but you can learn just as much from failure as you do success.
MOST IMPORTANT
Know your study style. None of these tips may help you and that is a-okay! If you study best some other way that contradicts any of these points, then continue on with that method!
HAPPY STUDYING!!!!!

What's your pet peeves?
Javert: When someone steals food for you f..ing plate without f…ing asking!!
Montparnasse: loud chewers, grate on every single nerve i have on my body.
Bossuet: people using the word “moist”. People saying they are fine when they are clearly not. Also, people talking at the cinema, others are trying to watch a movie!
Bahorel: People not finishing their stories, or people that interrupt others when they’re telling their stories, dude, I want to know what happened next.
Feuilly: Karen’s. You know the type.
Babet: Montparnasse.
Myriel: The existence of billionaires.
Claquesous: the sound of clicking heels or any shoe that makes noise when you walk
Enjolras: The sound of people chewing/popping gum, and people who are rude to cashiers and baristas.
Marius: Slow walkers- specifically slow walkers who consider themselves fast walkers and won’t let you pass them on the sidewalk

Bahorel: You know what, that's a great idea
What is your favorite cheese?
Feuilly: String Cheese, Mozzarella, Cheesecake, Cheese-It… I like cheese. Even though I’m lactose intolerant.
Bossuet: Molten cheese on top of comfort food
Babet: The type that comes in a can so you can spray it directly into your mouth. That’s efficiency. Mozzarella too, though.
Fantine: Brie
Gavroche: Cream cheese frosting and xtra cheddar goldfish
Claquesous: any cheese can be a good cheese if you know how to prepare it
Marius: I LOVE cheddar. I would die for cheddar. I actually cannot emphasize how much I love cheddar. But blue cheese is poison. As long as it’s not blue cheese, it’s amazing.
Bahorel: All cheese is good cheese tbh, right now I’d say manchego but just because I ate it yesterday and was so good.
Courfeyrac: Gimme aaaaalllllll the cheese sistaa!
Javert: Feta cheese or any salty cheeses.
Montparnasse: I’m not a big fan of cheese but cream cheese is pretty neat I guess
Myriel: I’ve never met a cheese I didn’t like, but I think cheddar would have to be my favourite, especially as a grilled cheese.
Enjolras: I like most cheeses. I mean, it’s all pretty gouda.
