Bayern Vs Leipzig
1st vs 2nd, 1 point difference, both teams scored over 50 goals in the league. The up and coming young manager vs the temporary manager trying to keep his place. What a boring 0-0. My first time watching a Bundesliga game and I was heavily disappointed. I was expecting drama and lots of goals.
Lets start with the stats then go into how the game looked and who were my star performers. A big give away to how Bayern were dreadful was there 70% possession to Leipzig’s 30%, Bayern had 11 shots compared to Leipzig’s 9. So to begin with you can see that Leipzig had more counter attacking opportunities which allowed them to have 9 shots, one of them should of been a goal by Werner but he was underwhelming. Leipzig had a 65% pass completion. Most of those missed place came from all over the pitch with Upamecano and Nkunku having above 80% successful pass completion. Bayern Passing was world class with the exception of Lewandowski who had a below average performance. In all Bayern were the better side overall but Leipzig had two clear opportunities. One from a Neuer error and one from a pin point cross from Nkunku both missed from Werner.
Now lets go into induvial stars and black holes. The worst player on the pitch was 21 year old Dani Olmo who just looked leagues below any of the other players, completing 0 shots or dribbles though completing 3 tackles and an interception his measly 42% pass completion is terrible. Yes he’s come from the Croatian league and he’s only 21 but £18 million spent on here looks like a big risk with other forwards who could of been available at the same price. The other end of the spectrum was the amazing French centre back Upamecano. With a mighty 3 tackles, 3 interceptions, 8 clearances and 3 blocked shots (one being after his own mistake stopping a certain goal) he led the Leipzig line and was the main reason Bayern didn't score. He also has great composure with the ball completing 2 dribbles and made 37 passes with 81% of them reaching their target. He will be one of the best centre backs in the world in a couple years time as long as he doesn’t move to Arsenal, he could be a good Ramos replacement at Real Madrid or a De Ligt partner at Juventus. The other key player of the match but played on the opposition was Bayern’s LB Alphonso Davies. I heard he was playing well and that he had amazing stats but he played exceptionally, running through his stats; 5 dribbles, 1 shot, 1 tackle, 1 interception, 2 clearances, 3 crosses and 3 accurate long balls. They may not look like much but he is an extra attacking on the wings with amazing defensive contributions and arguably one of the top 5 Left Backs in the world. Other memorable shouts would be Thiago, Alaba, Nkunku, Angelino.
What is next for each team is the main question Bayern’s next 5 games should be an easy 15 points with them. Leipzig have a tough 5 fixtures with meetings with Schalke and Bayer Leverkusen. This is the season that Leipzig have to win the league with Werner definitely leaving and other teams looking at their players, Leipzig might not get another chance. Bayern are looking to secure another title and the possibility of a champions league run with a favourable draw against Chelsea and Leipzig drawing Tottenham who were the runners up to the competition.
It has been the tightest title race in the top 5 leagues for a while and hopefully someone other than Bayern will win the League
