Heston is doing well and remained stable overnight. When they went in he seemed a bit more alert and responsive when they said his name. He did have a little trouble getting up because of pain, so they upped his pain meds some and he has seemed okay since then.
They took him on a couple laps around the courtyard and he was smelling things and doing all the usual dog stuff.
They gave him Jevity, which is a nutrient rich liquid food, through his nasal tube and he handled it well and doesn’t appear to have any nausea issues.
All his vitals are normal as of this morning.
His kidneys are doing well concentrating his urine and they increase his fluid rate to continue flushing them.
They pulled blood this morning to get a update on all his blood counts.
I should be getting another call from the surgeon later today about where we are in being able to do the surgery and then another call this evening for his end of day update.
Hi all,
On Friday, Feb 7, our greyhound, Heston, was attacked by 2 dogs that got into the yard.
He has been at Shands Veterinary Hospital since Saturday, February 8, when we decided a 2nd opinion was needed from the initial vet visit on the 7th.
They have been working on stabilizing him after fearing he may become septic. He has stayed sedated while they care for his wounds and monitor his glucose and blood pressure levels.
His levels have been staying steady, so the fear of sepsis has mostly passed.
The focus is now on getting his wounds to a healthy enough stage to go to surgery and get them sealed up.
The culpable party has assumed responsibility and agreed to pay medical bills. However, with the high costs, it was decided that some money will need to be raised to afford his procedures.
The current estimate for what they have done so far along with continued care and the 1st surgery (more may be required depending on the healing process) is around $8000-$10000.
Any support you can give is appreciated. If you can’t donate, please share so that others may see it as well. Every penny helps.
